Oh, I agree. I think The Miller is doing a wonderful job. Some people remain unsatisfied though, so I wonder if maybe thereâs something to what theyâre saying? Maybe thereâs a need which hasnât been adequately addressed?
Now, itâs not the responsibility of the Q8 team to make sure all 1000+ people in the thread are 100% satisfied. Volunteer-based systems donât work that way. But perhaps someone who isnât happy with things as they are might be willing to scratch their own itch and provide a solution for the benefit of other like-minded folks?
Each forum has its own purpose and audience. For everyoneâs sake, we try not to make judgments about other forums⌠it tends to get awfully political.
You guys in the âanything goesâ camp need to keep in mind that some people donât have an infinite amount of time to keep up. And they might still have useful contributions to make to the project.
Thereâs a huge difference between a few off topic posts in a 5 page thread and a few hundred off topic posts in a nearly 300 page thread. What youâre doing is effectively a denial of service attack on the project. Yes, thatâs harsh, but itâs what it is. Youâre saying that because you have a lot of free time on your hands, only people with as much free time are allowed to contribute. Thatâs selfish beyond imagination, no matter what rhetoric you use to justify it.
And seriously, registering a new user just to spam the thread? Thatâs just childish.
I totally & completely disagree with what you have said here. BrianK, TK, and others have mentioned ways to easily keep up with what is going on in this thread. You have no idea who has âtime on their handsâ or in what amount either.
So yeah what you said is âharshâ but it is far from âwhat it isâ.
Câmon fellows, donât you realize whatâs going on here? Thorfire promised us one lumen per post on the production Q8. We need to keep this up so weâll all have a 12,000 or even 15,000 lumen Q8 in our hands! They might even throw in an OveâGlove!
I am still so tempted to swap in some xhp50.2âs into the Q8 and make 15k lumens, even though I know it will overheat in moments. Or go really crazy and put 4 xhp70.2âs in it and make 25k lumensâŚ.
No way in heck you would be able to disapate xhp70.2âs. That would be around 350W+ from rough math, you would need a massive CPU heat sink to even hope to try to keep that reasonably well cooled.
The xhp50.2 should be a bit more tame a mere 225W. Still impossible to cool in basically any flashlight though. Based on my 17k lumens SRK I have now, You would be lucky to get the same turbo runtime as say a triple S2 before it overheats. Or about 30-45 seconds.
Do you have any links were someone converted an SRK style light to 2P 2S? Iâm drawing a blank as to how you would do it with the twist on battery tube.
BTW, Vinh over at Sky Lumen has got some 70.2âs and made a few 20k+ lumen monsters with them.
A few people at BLF have done it. The trick is to lock the battery tube in place and unscrew only the very tail end of the light, with posts built in to keep the rotation correct. For example:
Yep, as TK said it has been done. I did it to my 17k lumen SRK. Pretty easy really, the hardest part was getting the driver all lined up before gluing everything together.
