Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

It finally stopped raining, so I went out to try a new trick.

Achievement unlocked: A dozen behind-the-head lightsaber catches in a row with alternating hands and zero head-bonking.

Maybe next time Iā€™ll remember to change into exercise clothes first instead of wearing a dress.

We have some 21,000 members these days. Impossible to cater to every Individual. The goal is that every individual will cater to the forum and it will be a better place for everyone.

I happen to know for a fact that there are quite a few people here suffering some form of disability or impairment and the flashlight hobby is crucial to their well beingā€¦ I am one of them. So yes, some of us have more time on our hands than others. Some are retired, some just got their first job. Everyone is here under their own circumstances.

If any here that are complaining of how much off topic chatter would like to burden themselves with some of my pain, or any number of other members pain, please feel free to do so. If youā€™re not willing to do this, then perhaps you could at least allow us the freedom to enjoy what little there is left to us to put a smile on our face. Thank you in advance for cowboying up.

So sorry for those that are too busy to enjoy the forum, perhaps you will be better able to spend time here in the future. Hereā€™s to that being pain free on your partā€¦

If your referring to the moves in This Video you posted earlier TKā€¦. very impressive ā€˜grasshopperā€™. :+1:

Very impressive indeed, exercise clothes or not.

I suppose, different strokesā€¦ Then again thatā€™s pretty much the purpose of differing forums, and differing threadsā€¦.I supermod a site that is 20 times the size of thisā€¦with 170 sub forumsā€¦. Keeping things organized keeps things flowing smoothlyā€¦
Maybe Iā€™m just not used to chaosā€¦Then again there are 30 + mods, 10 SM and a few admins running around over there.

Ultimately I like to pop into the thread and not just see post 1 updated, but rather all the topical, informative, and relative banter relating to what The Miller, DBcustom, and the rest of the people are bouncing aroundā€¦. All the Choo Choo talk and other stuff clutters up what is otherwise a stellar look into what makes this hobby so greatā€¦
I sent someone over here to read this Q8 threadā€¦. All they said was ā€˜Um yea, too much crap to wade through. Iā€™ll just take your word for it.ā€™ They registered and put in for one, but I think they missed out on some seriously cool geek stuff buried in hereā€¦

Different forums are, wellā€¦ different. I am an admin on a different forum. We too are a free, non-profit forum like BLF. We too run a little loose as far as strictly keeping on topic. I find that much more friendly than getting out the thumb screws and being heavy handed with moderation and rebukes to stay on topic. Part of the reason the Q8 topic has run to thousands of posts id the time it has take to get to having a near perfect product to this almost ready point.

The saving grace for these BLF projects is that really all that matters is contained in the first post. Anything important is there. For those of us short on time that is the meat. Mostly I donā€™t care about the rest, except for times when I have more time I want to devote to the fine details. I believe the way the project and other past and present projects have develoiped is fine; a good compromise between iron-fisted ā€œthou shalt not wanderā€ and total chaos.

Yes, I decided to learn the throw at the end. After about 10 minutes I was able to get it sometimes, and after 20 minutes I was getting it almost every time. Not nearly as smooth as how she did it in the video, but she has been doing it a whole lot longer.

Then I came in for a hot shower, overheated, and had a blood pressure crash from which I still feel like a wet noodle. Oops. I guess I should add ā€œwerenoodleā€ or ā€œpastathropyā€ to the list of whatā€™s wrong with me.

Anyway, Iā€™d tie in the Q8 somehow, but Iā€™m too far off-topic for that. If it was a zoomie like a Jax Z1, I could maybe make the case that this saber-spinning thing could be done with a flashlight to achieve a similar effect in fogā€¦ but itā€™s not a zoomie. And Iā€™m not sure I want to expose my Z1 to the level of abuse my practice saber gets.

:+1: ā€¦ Well, like I said earlierā€¦. very impressive. Take care & watch those BP drops.

this thread is long not only because of off topic, it has been active for 13 months

8000 posts over 400 days = 20 posts a day, not really an excessive amount, give it a rest pleeeeeese.

Cheers David

Here are some pics, how I did it: http://www.taschenlampen-forum.de/media/albums/skyray-king-srk-xhp50.1836/

Now that is a neat thought!

We do need a design change though, to keep up with the increasing lumen-demand, that will take a few extra months, so the post-count in this thread goes up, then that new design will not make the needed lumens, another upgrade, more time, more posts, upgrade :person_facepalming: :person_facepalming: :weary:

Heheh I think most posts are on topic but now not a lot can be done but wait hence percentage off topic is higher
However it does increase the chance of us missing things that are serious
Like where are the last two Q8 lights that are still not in?

Iā€™d feel better if you folks with the off topic posts (like this one too) werenā€™t in effect forcing The Miller to read each one. As he is diligently trying to keep a list of folks that want this light and also monitor/read things that might need to be looked at as it relates to the Q8 proto, you are making him wade through all the off topic stuff that pops into your head. And that, my friends, is just wrong.

Thanks again ALL you guys pitching in on this project. Damned impressive.

@TK: not only do i enjoy your beautifully worded digressions, i also watched that ā€œsaber jugglingā€ video a dozen times. I especially like the last throw-and-catch-behind-the-head-with-left-hand move.

It reminds me of my teenage years when Bruce Lee was all the rage. I made myself a nunchaku out of two broomstick bits and spent quite some time practicing. I canā€™t remember how many times i hit myself. Fast forward a few decades, i visit a friend who was into martial arts and owned a ā€˜realā€™ nunchaku made of hexagonal pieces of really hard wood and probably weighed with lead or something. Just handling it hurt my palms and although i was tempted to try a few moves, i just placed it back on itā€™s stand for i was really afraid to break a bone or worse.

How long and heavy is your practice ā€˜swordā€™?

Iā€™d rather watch TK do the workout in her dress.

Just over a meter, and just under a kilogram. Itā€™s a machined aluminum hilt with electronics inside, and a really hard thick plastic tube for a blade. The balance point is about where the two pieces meet. Itā€™s like a heavier version of a kendo shinai, and the warranty covers a year of full-force combat.

Broken bones are indeed a valid concern. I managed to break a finger the first week I had it, due to sparring without armor. Also kinda lost an arm that day, or I would have if it had been a real plasma blade. This was only about 10 minutes after getting hit, before the bruise had a chance to really develop:

ā€¦ Timbuktu?

Tom E, in the next version of Narsil you should add a Marco Polo mode so we can find missing lights.

Your firmware is so amazing sometimes you say things like that and Iā€™m not 100% sure whether youā€™re joking or not

So tell us, is this part of your training as a minor deity, or are you preparing for some sort of light saber exhibition/competition, perhaps part of a Cosplay convention, if such things exist?

Ouch! That'll hurt.

Those new fangled tag locator things would do the trick - TrackR as one example. Funny - I know a guy who's got a west coast company who came out with locator tags years ago for luggage - think he was ahead of his time, or at least ahead of the curve of the better tech/cost/marketing. GPS or audio and visual queues, or both.

Hmm driver update with gsm slot, antenna pads, GPS chip
Design new package with antenna connections, design big shipping box with antenna connections
Adds a few cents in shipping and simcard with data, but you could really see where it is then
Unless it is rejected for a box with tons on outbound communication probably is not something shippers want
