Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Hey Tom, I’m curious - how does the temperature stepdown work? Do you have a thermistor on one of the pins, or is there a relationship between the temperature and the current into the LED that you can measure from there?

The ATtiny25/45/85 have a built in thermistor, so I'm using that. It's notoriously off calibration from MCU to MCU. This one in the M3 reads bout 20-22C high. I'm using -19C as the calibration offset.

Here's the Photobucket album on my M3 mods: http://s1054.photobucket.com/user/TomE2012/library/Custom%20Mods/OnTheRoad%20M3.

The driver has to be sanded down, trimmed, shaped to fit - it was nasty, but works. Someone like DEL could probably design one to match perfect to the stock, then buy them at OSHPark. That would be better all around - easier and better thermally.

It looks like you received an other item from KD:

There was another period of free time, Dragon Boat Festival
We expect some news soon now that work resumed

Yea, that's what I thought, but those are clear - I got a bunch of those already. Didn't try them but they could be the same size, as described. Both say 8.4 mm - think this is the typical small XML size hole.

And something more offtopic.
I will order a few UV LEDs in the next days. And i will have some left to sell (Non profit). I asked djozz and from the pictures it is a LG 3 Gen UV LED.

To good a mention to at least not know a little about it. I give you Dragon Boat Festival

Not even 1000 lumens per headlight but the Q8 Sport looks great.

^

It sure does!!! :+1:
But I think you could mount a Q8 right on top of the air dam with a special made bracket. For those time when a bit more light was needed.

Perhaps 4 Q8’s in the front grill instead of those Audi badges?

Maybe that was a joke, but RMM sells something very similar to that:

If you really do want a lot of light on your car, there’s basically nothing better.

Very impressive!

:+1: … I like your idea even better!!!

I can’t speak for lionheart but yep, mine was a semi “on topic” joke.
But yep, what you said about light bars is right on target TK. I don’t have a RMM model yet, but I’ve had some for a while now. And nothing beats them as far as I am concerned…. especially out in the boonies where you don’t have to be concerned about blinding oncoming drivers.
I hope to try a RMM version in the future.

:+1: Well said!!!

Yeah I was just playing as well.

In other news I just upgraded my cars headlights to LED’s, 5500k, best money I’ve ever spent on that thing

Sounds good mate.

I have a question about your breaking headlight news though. Do your 5500k headlights show up white or do they have a lot of blue tint in them???

Good led headlights are hard to find. They are usually not the right size and shape to match the original filaments. I’ve also never seen 5500k, they are all usually 6000k to 7000k. A lot use fans which will fail. I had a great set in my car, but after a year the Luxeon chips are starting to fail. So now I’m back doing research on the new 2017 model lights. The first replacement set I bought last week had different leds than what was shown and they had 1/4 the output to my old ones. Back they went. I ordered 2 other sets and will be trying them out.

I wish there was forum for this.

Btw, what lights did you buy?

I only see pure white, I’ve seen some with that ugly blue tinge around the outside but I don’t see them with my new ones.
I do however have the light coming through a projector, not just a reflector which scatters the light everywhere.

I’ll get the details for you, see if I can find the box in the garage…

I have had the same concerns about going LED headlights. I played with HID’s for awhile but never got around to a proper projector setup so went back to silverstars to cut the glare down.

I have not seen an LED headlight so far that I feel could remain reliable in under the hood conditions with passive cooling. I am also not a fan of fan cooled headlights (pun intended).

I have ideas on how I would make an LED headlight but they are nothing like what I have seen offered lol.

Hmmm, 20k lumen out the headlights……… Who needs a light bar…….

I probably wouldn’t recommend for cars that have high / low beam on the same globe.
For my car I purchased a set for low beam and a separate set for high beam, and I don’t use high beam that much, but when I do it’s rather beautiful and damn bright

edit: my mate put HID’s in his car that didn’t have projector headlamps and got done by the cops (blinded them) The bright HID light just reflects everywhere

While I find some of the posts from the last couple of weeks mildly interesting, I really would prefer the unrelated posts that have been happening would create their own thread. Maybe something like “Q8 participants off topic prattle”.

Many (most) of the Q8 people on the thread are getting alerts, but when we go to the thread; content irrelevant in the extreme. It is very very annoying and quite useless. I have better things to do. I (and I believe many many others) are simply monitoring the progress of the Q8 project and evaluating issues actually applicable to the Q8. I also believe that most of us would really prefer the chatter to go somewhere else. I want to have a thread to follow Q8 development/issues/changes/progress reports. Nothing else is really worth the continual interruption to support insider fun.

If there is nothing of actual relevance to the Q8 project; go somewhere else. Please!
