Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Iā€™m also doubting in getting a 2nd one just for modding and leave 1 as stock. But another $40 + extra cells is pushing it for my budget. I guess Iā€™ll wait until I have one in my hands and then decide if itā€™s useful to get a 2nd one.

Roku - I donā€™t have one, but a friend of mine has had one since they first came out and has upgraded to newer versions as they became available. He loves the Roku and recommends it to everyone. I just donā€™t watch TV, so a bit of Netflix and a movie rental place down the street keep me covered. Occasionally, I go to the local cinema to see something ā€œon the big screenā€.

Iā€™m signed up for 3, one because I have to, one to mod and one for my daughter/son-in-law as Iā€™ve already sort of created the bug in their household. As far at the ā€œmodā€ one goes, it might just get put away for a while and see what shakes with technology in the near future, upgrade it possibly as things progress. I donā€™t really have a soup can light. I know, right? But I bought an SRK clone as well as an M6 from Tom and gave them to my son-in-law and bro-in-law. I have an M6 I modified way back when, and I have a small Fandyfire Rook which has the appearance of a SRK but smaller, itā€™s got an SBT-70 in it now with Narsil so thatā€™s about as close as I am to this light. Hoping I will have money for it when that time comes, might not actually be able to buy all 3, what with everything else going on these days. (Iā€™ve gotten a $930 hospital bill over the past 2 months for my arm/neck mess and havenā€™t even had surgery yet!)

So much going on lately in BLF, so little monies to spread aroundā€¦

Some of you have noticed Iā€™m not around much anymore. However I was in this from the beginning so Iā€™m honored to have been sent a sample.

First impressions are very good. I donā€™t own a lot of ā€œpremiumā€ brand lights, but I have had my hands on a few for review purposes, and this feels and looks just as high quality as any of them. You really are getting superb value for the money in this groupbuy.

The things I like most:

1. The anodization is very consistent all over my sample. Even inside the driver compartment it looks great.

2. The driver bay is finished better than most ā€œbudgetā€ lights. We are getting a thick brass battery contact ring, plus retaining screws (which I like better than a retaining ring). I especially like that my ā€œQ8ā€ vias made it into the final driver.

3. Narsil. It may be too much programming for a mainline manufacturer to release, but for an enthusiastā€™s light itā€™s perfect. Ramping mode is easy to pick up for a beginner and provides all the function a muggle could ever want, but if you want to spend the time you can go in and change almost everything to however you want it.

Although I have not been directly involved in one before, we all know there have been hiccups with groupbuys in the past. That said, I have been very impressed with Thorfireā€™s attentiveness and consistency in this long process. I may not log in here much, but I read emails between the team several times per week. I think everyone on the giant list of buyers will be thrilled when they finally have these lights in hand.

Iā€™ll try to pay attention and answer any questions yā€™all have for me about my sample, though this thread really does move fast.

Finally here is the Q8 with one of the big reasons for my inactivity, Winston.

One stock
Yeah that is all one needs lighting anything till +/- 200 meters, yet I want a second, maybe for modding, idk but I am heavily invested here so not the right person to ask

Love what you wrote about the Q8 Pilotdog68. You need to love Winston. Carry on. They arenā€™t pups forever. Dogs are some of the very best ā€œpeopleā€ and they depart far too soon.

In general Iā€™ve found that, any time I find something really good, particularly for a good price, itā€™s probably a good idea to get more than one because these things tend to never be available again.

Are you familiar with Sturgeonā€™s Law? In his career of science fiction, people would often complain that 90% of sci-fi was crapā€¦ and why is sci-fi so bad, theyā€™d ask? Sturgeon made the observation that, while this is true, science fiction is not unusual ā€” because 90% of everything is crap.

The reason to get a Q8 is because, as far as we can tell, it will be an exception to that rule. Itā€™s the good stuff, and the good stuff doesnā€™t happen often.

Good post TK. How true.

Great post PD!
It is indeed very cool to see that nice driver with Q8 on it!
BTW Winston is cute!

Use oneā€¦. Have a spare to do with whatever is determined at a later date. The price is right, for what promises to be a fantastic light.
So get, while the getting is good.
ā€œNeedā€ has nothing to do with it in my case.

+1 on the PD post. I'm the only one having all 3 generations of prototypes, and the quality improvements from the 1st to 2nd/3rd generation was huge: the square threading, interior finish, anodizing, stainless steel bezel, button improvements - that's just what you can notice.

And, maybe Thorfire is better about this, but in generalā€¦ quality tends not to be consistent over time with items manufactured in China. People are always looking for ways to increase the margins by a few cents, so parts change and designs change and after a while the thing barely resembles its original self. This is why the Q8 was created in the first place ā€” because original-quality SRKs were no longer available.

Plus, the price will probably go up significantly after the first batchā€¦ so itā€™s good to get them while theyā€™re hot.

> maybe Thorfire is better about this, but ā€¦.

Yep, ā€œif you like it, buy a spareā€ has been a good approach for a while.

Of course, people look at me funny seeing me using a Treo phone and a Palm PDA.
But hey, Iā€™ve got spares.

Do the new springs require an extra round of prototypes?

Kepling, pretty sure it was discussed that the spring change wouldā€™nt require a sample round, probably some pictures and some specs and then theyā€™d run with it. My memory though, can get things was out of alignment, so itā€™d be nice to hear more on this from The Miller and/or Tom E.

I donā€™t think so.
The preformance on a single spring is tested with 30Q cells and a change to one bigger instead of 2 smaller can only improve things so it should be good.

Just buy a chromecast

Is Netflix that expensive in USA?
Here it costs 20$ or so and we share the expenses with my family, since we use it with 3 families, and still everyone has their own profile.

Nice touch, I like it!! :+1: ā€¦

Headless me walking a friend of mine, but thatā€™s now, when she first me she hated me just line any other new person in the house.

Now i get showered in love when we meet ( not my dog belong to my little sisters former boyfriend )
Our first walk i got dragged along and was just there for the ride, now there is no doubt in how our walks go, until we meet another dog then she go hyper and want to play as she have never learned to handle such a situation.

Slowly getting there.

O and i never owned a dog myself.
