Rey's Titanium X6, re-make

Any hint on the source of discrepancy?
Heat?

Haven’t calculated that before…147 seconds until battery drainage. Though I guess at 120 W it would desolder before that.

Discrepency? What discrepency? djozz sets a C8 reflector on top of the emitter while it’s on a large heat sink and being driven by a power supply. Lab results, not real world. My numbers are in the flashlight, running on batteries, with an optic over the 3 emitters as run through an Zener modified FET driver. Not the same test at all. Not to mention a very large difference in equipment. djozz has some nice finds for his meters that would be difficult if not impossible to run across on demand…

You never cease to amaze me with what you can build. Hope your surgery went well. My mom’s had back and neck surgery I know it can get rough.

He has a more capable setup without optic and gets marginally better results. After substracting optic losses your light does ~18% more than my calculations predict. That’s why I asked if the results are OTF, your reported result was much closer to calculated LED lm then OTF lm.

That said, djozz doesn’t mention cooling the LED down between measurements, so I suspect that his LED is hotter than yours and that would be my first guess as to the reason why your light fares better. There might be some testing / calibration variance too. And my reading of the graph was rough which affects results. I wanted to know if there are other factors that could be at play…

Oh wow thats bright

Do you know the part nr on that khatod optic?
I got the urge to build something similar in a C8

+1……… nice pics of an amazing light. Thanks for sharing

Very nice!!

Doesn’t these Cutter guys know who you are? Strange manner of acting, maybe link them to this topic?

hahahahaha Miller, that’s hilarious! I’m nobody, sometimes even less than that.

Tj, the part number is Khatod PL605A06, I found it HERE at Cutter. I’ve had this optic sitting here since the late part of 2015, used the first one of two I bought in a chopped MagLite. (ML25XL or something)

It’s 11.8mm tall, so about 3.2mm shorter than a CUTE-3 from Ledil. Just keep that in mind…

Thank you!

I wonder how long until sb. makes a run of spacers for this build.
BTW, this is just a few mm too large….would bring efficiency up a notch. I guess there’s no readily-available host though?

You never cease to amaze, Dale!

Agro, that optic is designed for 1mm die emitters like the XR-E, they are array type that are made to interlock together for a light fixture such as a street lamp or overhead lighting using large numbers of series emitters with very low amp draw. According to the chart listed there, the beam profile of one of those would be around 30º or in other words, very floody.

JM, surprised me too! lol I was thinking maybe it’d do up towards 5 or 6000 lumens, even limited the wire size in order to try to keep it real for heat issues. With the 2 small cells I sure didn’t expect those numbers… and have better cells coming so we’ll see if it makes much difference there.

Alright Pal, You already know I own the only other Rey Ti X6 on the planet, so are you ready for me to ship it…??

So you went with the Khatod 600 series optic, I was betting that might be it since there wasn’t many other options that I saw in their catalog, but didn’t even suspect all this, wow…

Perhaps a PM … ?

This is just to much Dale, you just can’t ignore my light any longer, well ignore is a bit strong, you haven’t ignored it I know that, but please since you have as far as I know built all the other Ti X6’s the only other one that exists and really needs your attention would be mine…!!

I have whatever it will take to do this, meaning plenty of cash…! Rod stock, board, emitters, optic, labor, minimum wage even, whatever…. !!!

Please let me know Dale, I just can’t handle this any longer, it’s been 2 yrs I have been yakking at you about this, but dang that is something else, and patience might have really paid in spades, new lathe skills, new technology, yep… Patience they say is a what, a hard think to do or virtue… either way, there’s no good time as the present, well as I see it anyhow…

Maybe something more tuned down…? Beats me, it would be in your hands and what I get is what I will get,
I would commission you with complete or full artistic freedom or whatever you call it, do as you will and I will write checks… or PayPal, that saves me checks…
I know whatever I got back I would be thrilled and then some.

A Dale original of any sort is something else, but a 1 of 5 ever made at my last known count of the original Rey Ti X6’s and a then it’s built as a Dale original, well I need say no more.
Please let me know, it’s still early in the year you know, so still no rush…

Orsm effort Dale. Your skills in all things modding and building is beyond reproach. Oh, your not to bad behind a camera as well.

10,000 lumens!?
Ok divide by 20 and that’s what comes out of my X6 and I thought THAT was bright.

I’d like to join the “Dale never ceases to amaze me group” too!

Rey sold more of these Ti X6’s than 5 didn’t he? Surely he did, they’re really neat lights and of course staying as faithful to the Eagle Eye X6 as he did really works for me. I know I built up Slow-to-go’s and flamed it, did I do someone elses? Don’t remember.

Wondering though if this build wouldn’t fare better in an aluminum light with a copper pill, instead of the Titanium holding the heat in. Really wasn’t expecting this kind of output, figured it’d be lower than my quad Nichia 219 set-up and thus work better in this Ti light. Got a shocker when I fired it up the first time, don’t ya know! I only have one small piece of TeCu left, don’t know if it’ll be enough to make another pill for the height required, so I’ll have to get some more copper before I can do anything with it. And of course, surgery looms. Should have been almost over it by now, if he’d done it on the 1st like he originally said I probably would be. Somehow they figured I’d not jumped through enough hoops…

I go to the surgeon again in 9 days, hopefully he’ll be ready to operate and then I’ll be down for a couple of months. This whole pinched nerve thing is just really really tiresome and 3 months is entirely too long to be wearing it.

I had a Dr.s appointment this morning and took this Ti X6 with me. I told him about my “hobby” and pulled this out, telling him about it before firing it up. Then fired it up on low and walked it up through the modes and shone it onto my hand from about a foot away in level 5, 6 and then 7. The Dr. was about 8 feet away and when I hit Turbo you could see him recoil in his chair! lol I was shining the light away from him, but into my hand, he simply couldn’t believe it. This Dr. is familiar with working a lathe, he’s an outdoors kind of guy and was blown away at what the 2 little 18350’s are doing here.

They are compatible with XHP 50 and the narrow version is 12º.

Hi Dale, my stats are fairly accurate most info from Rey and that long thread and yes you did one other than slow to go’s but I can’t remember the persons name either and you’ve modded out a couple others that I am sort of sure of, but that to could be me thinking you modded someones when actually you may have only rebuilt your light,
I am not sure just how many variations you have built on that light, quit a few and all of them leading up to this awesome light, I did like that optic idea and the extended pill was a really great idea.
But here’s what I think, you get well and we will talk about this Ti X6 some other time, your health is the most important thing right now and that will be that, my light ain’t going anywhere.
Dale thank you, you inspire me so much, whether lights or photography, you are so extremely skilled and on so many levels, just look how quick you took to that lathe, just amazing.
Later pal, get fixed.
