Maybe just cut off a coil or more from the stock tail spring?

It seems like the simplest solution is to send retaining rings to thread into the head and give some more length to the tube?

Is that simpler than removing the driver spring and cutting off a coil from the tail spring?
You’ll have to wait a month for an extra part and it will not look nice when the tube is not screwed in the head all the way.

Dang, taking off the bezel, thought I was real careful, but the first movement I heard something that didn't sound right - broke a post off the quad optic . Super thin and tall posts - wow.

I think with the solder blob for the driver spring, there's something that can be done for a soft spring in the tail. Didn't check any 18650 tubes yet i got around.

No, I’m hoping there is a simple solution that BangGood/Astrolux can send out which will solve the problem definitively. Pulling the tail spring and putting in spacers seems fine for a temporary solution. I am astounded that they manged to hose it up given that this is really an incremental change from the S41. A different length tube just seems like another opportunity to mess up.

Does anyone who has an S42 in hand have an 18650 tube to see if the same problem exists with the long tube?

Aargh…!
That’s horrible…
Is it the same optic as the S41?

Wow, what a trainwreck. Y’alls feedback in this thread is appreciated. I had an S42 in my cart…

I think so. I just got mine and 16340 wouldn’t work… I’m waiting on my tube to come

Can't tell - never was able to open the head of my S41 - glued up tight.

Well, if it is, and i suspect it is the same, Banggood sells spare optics, in case it’s necessary to replace it.

Geez… To be honest i think it’s kind of fun and satisfying when you have to modify a light a little to have it work, but breaking off a leg of the optic like that is just disheartening… :frowning:

So any thoughts as to what Banggood might do to make this right? Send out the 18650 tubes and an 18650 cell? Would it be easier to simply return it? Do they offer free return shipping labels?

what a wonderful idea…

in my dreams, too

Dang.

Well, it's not so easy. I have a couple BLF A6's, so the S41/S42 tube is listed as an A6 tube. So if the A6 tubes I have are the same as what they are selling, it won't work straight up. I had to flip around the tube to get contact on the driver side, the non the tail side, I had to add a washer around the tail spring so the tube end made contact in the tail.

Now it could be there are A6 tube variants - I've had the BLF A6's since the beginning, so maybe they changed.

I finally got an16340 to work… I try’d a magnet on the negative and it wasent working out… but I managed to get my battery negative pushed in a little… then try’d the battery with no magnet now it works”don’t know why now… this light makes you work for it… all in all for the non discounted price there is other options (and discounted price)for whatever purpose you plan on this to be…

I always planned on useing this light with a 18650… it is too small to run this 2000 lm turbo … it gets way hot to quick… I was curious why so many people wanted this light useing the small battery configuration?? For what purpose with the 18350 or 16340?? the only thing would be everyday carry right? This would be horrible for that imo… if you want a small battery edc get the on the road m3 if little is what you want… the m3 has been awsome for edc for past months … and this ui is a little funky… but it’s still a cool light lol

It gets even more hot with a 18650 lol it pulls amps from a higher drain battery

But you actually have a handle with a 18650 instead of holding pretty much the head where all the heat comes from… that’s like having a stick with a fire on the end of it. Are you gunna hold the one foot fire stick or the 3 inch fire stick

Just to add to the thread.

I got my S42 from alieexpress yesterday.

- UI is terrible

- Fit and finish is pretty good, although my lens did have blemishes

- *My Efest 18350 flat top fits fine…I do have to really tighten down the tail-cap for there to be contact. My BLF A6 18650 tubes work fine with a Samsung 30Q

  • Good output, but I find the beam pattern of the BLF A6 more practical for my use

My bad. Didn’t know you meant it was too hot to hold. I thought you meant the light just get too hot in general with 18350

Yea I already felt the heat quick
