Thrunite TN 42 ,a new record in Throw

Ohh. Then true, he could have, but might take too much time. He's on the clock with modding, unlike us hobbyists, where we may skimp on money, not time.

But I've seen some pretty good results with 4P setups, like in the BOSS1 - 4 cells definitely get more amps than 1 cell on these, but a buck would still do better. All depends of course on what amps he was able to achieve. Also wonder what XP-G2 he used, surprised he could get good ones still, but I don't know.

He must be using old production xp-g2 s4 1a emitters , but i don’t know at all !

I would like to make a tn42 with xp-l dedomed or xp-g2 dedomed , but starting from the light it is already expensive .

Thanks guys. First of all, I like this blf. Everybody is nice and knowledge. This tn42vn have a cerokote coating… vinh mentioned to run a Sony vtc5a on this light… I am assuming it’s for better performance and driver vnx2.

Dat’s Bad Azz! I want a Ted Nugent TN42 with Zebra Stripes now! :+1:

I wonder where Vinh added the Cu heat sink?

I think so. You can see cuhs on the card. I also know for sure he add cu heat sink on the acebeam k70vn too… he also retune the beam on the all the xpg2 pdt and even xhp 35 thrower light. ( He say it’s hard to refocus the beam)… I take his words since I am not a modder.

Different Flavor, similar photography techniques, slightly different results as NewLumen! :sunglasses:

When using multiple cells in parallel it’s easier to deal with the high Vf of an emitter. Between Vinh and Richard, I doubt anyone else knows better how to modify a flashlight.

I think the Richard influence/driver design has made Vinh’s mods jump light years from where he was just resistor modding
Plus help from BLF —— The TN42vn XPG2 version was produced right after I posted on CPF about the BLF member doing an XPG2 older bin mod and getting close to 1000 klux—can’t remember his name though
But man the cost—Have you guys seen the price tag on these lights lately

Wolfdog—————- What’s the specs on your light

I bought it off of Alex when it was 7 weeks old. I do not know for sure. I can only base it on this:

Spec 1 XHP35 HI CW 6500K $250 (Recommended)
Lumen: 2400
Lux: 775
Throw: 1760m

I have been meaning[think I will email him now] to ask Alex if he measured it. I know Alex measured his XPG2 version and got ~ 900Kcd………can not verify the exact measurement.

I would disagree with you. Michael Johnson[OSTS] is at least as good. I am anxiously awaiting his TN42 version. I would bet it will out throw any of Vinhs versions.

Thank you for the info & link Tom.
I have actually read about some of his mods but did not recognize this as one.

He does some pretty amazing things it seems.

I bought one of my first lights from vinh, acebeam t25 with shaved dome. And I have to say that it was actually a pretty terrible experience. First he sent my light to another guy in Sweden… I don’t know how it’s even possible. Secondly, after almost two months when the light finally arrived it was very underwhelming. I measured it significantly less than in its stock form. It was supposed to do over 113kcd, measured it 84kcd… My newly modded C8 is vastly superior at 118kcd.

I paid almost 200 usd with import taxes for a light that is utter crap. I will never even consider buying anything from him again.

Yea, I'm glad he's human at least. I modded a couple of vinh mod lights - he's not perfect, thank goodness , but he does, I think, an incredible job at getting focus right. I recall the big light to mod for throw was the TN31 and he kind of pioneered simple jumpering the resistors, not just modding them, and it proved to be a very reliable mod for the TN31 which clearly has an over-engineered driver. The, he proved to be able to get the best focus out of it, same de-domed XM-L2's we all used, same jumpering, etc., but always managed to get more throw out of it.

His expertise is with throwers for sure, not so much on the electronics side as far as full drivers and firmware. He still needs to catch up with what we are doing, specially the stuff that DEL is doing, for example. I know he's worked with Richard in the past on drivers, but think it's a little dated for what we are doing now. Not just DEL, but TA, ToyKeeper, etc... I know he's got margin to work with, but hard to upgrade your drivers every 6 months or so. So much involved in testing alone.

Michael is in an entirely different league - he's not focused on cranking out volume, but breaking some new ground. Hope to see what he's got cooking soon. But if I was too look for a pure custom thrower, I'd be seriously looking at these guys: https://www.silentthunderordnance.com/. Just need to get someone to buy in and post a review - not sure if there's any independent review/comment on one of his monster throwers - $500 for a 2.5 kcd thrower, dang interesting...

Lance of Ra is my choice.

Sorry to hear that… I bought t25vn shave dome xhp 50 from vinh… very nice light…perfect dedome when I shine at the white wall.

Wolfdog, have you seen this guys TN42? I mean, is it out there, establishing itself for absolute maximum throw numbers? Because Vinh’s is. Not really a question of what you believe or disbelieve, we know some facts on what’s out there, can’t really speculate on what may or may not come to pass. I’ve never personally heard of your guy Michael Johnson, the name to me is synchronous with winning Olympic medals in the 200M and 400M sprint races…

Of course, we all also know you’re personally sideways with Richard and as such on your own agenda. The rest of us here have a lot of faith in Richard. That’s not something that’s cause for debate, we have heard your viewpoint and you have heard from many folks about theirs. Justin would have said it is what it is, so that’s probably where this should be left…

We each have our own perspectives from our own experiences and as such, very little in this world can’t be argued.

I’m not exactly a big Vinh fan myself (as much because I’m too broke to afford his lights as anything else), not even a big throw light fan when it comes to that. The numbers game is a game, a variable, and changes a lot from one viewing to the next. I like building lights. I like it when those builds show big numbers, but I also like a nice beam profile and a great tint, so there’s more to it all… for me… than any particular lean.

The Thrunite TN42 is a fantastic light, I traded mine off and in some ways I regret it, but at the end of the day if I want another light that throws a mile I’ll just build it and carry on. Still, I have a lot of respect for those that pay a lot of attention to the details and work their butts off for the betterment of our hobby. Ya know?

Alex just replied to my email.

“For the xhp35 hi version I was getting 800kcd and with the xpg2 version i constantly get 998kcd all measured at 10 meters. I cant measure lumens.”

_

In regards to who “will” have the longest throwing TN42?

I believe there is no way to tell…………unless you get an independent, unbiased guy to measure them both. Too many variables, methods[distance] from all the different people who are measuring lux.

With that said,I still think It would be Michael. He is patient, highly intelligent, driven, meticulous and not consumed with making money, instead he thrives on absolute quality and perfection.

I still love Vinh and my Vinh lights, just my opinion of who would have the “Longest Throwing Lights in the World”! :sunglasses:

You never heard of your fellow Texan? Michael Johnson OSTS…TN31mb…user name Saabluster? Anyway, we will just have to wait.

EDIT: YOU NEVER HEARD OF THE DEFT X?!!

I really wish you would stop bringing up Richard. You brought it up sarcastically in an email and now again on here.

I know what happened and my experience has NOTHING to do with yours or others.I do not make things up. I tell the truth.

Your second paragraph is irrelevant, provoking and has NOTHING to do with who I believe has or will have the longest throwing TN42! I am sure you wanted to get a reaction out of me by digging up the past. This is it, as civil as I can be.

Anybody who can put Two and Two together can see that and also look right through your motives and your skewed way of thinking. Maybe you ought to slow down on that pain medicine or whatever your taking, your reasoning and logic is distorted and your insinuations are way off base.

My opinion is soley based on my experience with Vinh lights and Michael’s lights.
