HowTo: Adding pictures to posts

In the tool bar above the comment input box is a sunset icon. Click that and copy the direct link from photobucket. Please set relative width to 100% or less to keep the image within the thread boundary. Otherwise, every other post is shrunk to accommodate any that are outsized, really annoying.

many thanks to Rufusbduck for the advice, the trick was to click on the photobucket image and then select the url, pretty simple. aren’t they always.

Garry im trying to add one simple picture from photobucket and it is just showing a little tiny greenish square….
I’m not seeing any kind of tree thing for the advanced options. Am i missing something?

The tree is a CPF thing. Here, SB uses the sunset icon button. Click on that to open the image drop down box, then go to photobucket and click on “i ” for the image you want to link and copy the direct link into the image drop down box. Don’t forget to set image width to 100% or less, it constrains images to normal post width. Larger images don’t make screens any wider, they just shrink all normal width posts.

Ok I’ll try that thank you

For those folks using Photobucket…

Beware that Photobucket throttles the bandwidth for 3rd party hosting (which is what you are doing if you link your Photobucket image). If you happen to have a popular post (a review for example), then you may find that folks cannot see the images due to your account exceeding it’s free 3rd party hosting bandwidth allocation for free accounts.
See for FAQ from Photobucket here

I’ve seen several posts recently where the pictures cannot be seen due to Photobucket bandwidth restrictions.

I started using Imgur due to this limitation. But it looks like Imgur doesn’t allow direct linking to images using the BLF method. You have to use their Embed link (copy and paste) which inserts the image with a little Imgur frame around it. Not as clean as Photobucket, but you don’t have the bandwidth restrictions for a free account.

It seems like you don’t know how to use imgur…
Here is what you do:

  1. right click image
  2. click “open in new tab”
  3. copy the URL
  4. click the “insert image” icon on BLF
  5. paste the URL

BTW photobucket is a disgusting adware and malware cluttered site, nobody should use it anymore.

    EDIT-
You can also right click -> copy image address instead of opening in new tab and copying the URL, OR you can just copy the “Direct Link”

Thanks Enderman.

I was using the unregistered mode on Imgur and it doesn’t have the same interface you show. There is no convenient button to copy the direct link to the image jpg. However, the right click method does work to get the direct URL to the .jpg

Thanks

You’re welcome.
Can you even upload images to it in unregistered mode??
I don’t think you can…

This one is totally free to upload images…

I just use goggle images…

Yes - you can upload images on Imgur without setting up an account.

That’s awesome and maybe should become a sticky topic since so many images from photobucket both old and very recent are now unviewable on the forum. Is Imgur the best way around this for now?
If so, is there a way to convert older but very useful and important pics from OldLumens’s post for example? its a shame to find a helpful thread only to realize all the pictures are bunk. Or even a thread less than a week old that photobucket has screwed up.

Imgur seems like the most stable (in terms of longevity) image hosting site currently.
If you have an imgur account it is easy to simply drag images over (from for example a forum thread) and have them uploaded.

Unfortunately to change the images from someone like OL you would need to have access to their forum account to edit posts.
Also, if the photobucket images are not viewable, you would also need access to their photobucket account to get the images :frowning:

I think someone posted a tool somewhere in this thread that allows you to move images from photobucket to imgur?

Thanks, I doubt this is news to anyone but sometimes if there’s an old thread where the images are unavailable for some reason, I have had decent luck with googling the title of the thread, then selecting “images” on google. For some reason, sometimes the pictures will appear in the google search where they are unavailable on the actual thread.

I’m having trouble sharing pictures in posts. I use google pictures. I put the picture in a shared album, copy the link of the picture, use the insert image icon on top of comment box paste the link, give it a name and all that comes up is a ? In a blue box. I can insert the image link in the insert link feature and you can follow the link to my google album but it will not put the image in the post. I’ve been using forums for years and it is an easy function to do. How come I’m having issues with this forum??? Any suggestions for Google pictures is appreciated.

Where is the "tree" icon for mouse over function? I can't see it anymore. I'm using Chrome

Hi, unfortunately there’s no longer a button for adding mouseovers. (But it’s been gone for years.) You can add them fairly easily like this:

Ah, okay. Thanks SB

“Google Photos” sharing links seems to me, not working at all.
