A Perfect Dedome?

Don’t tease us

I don’t tease. Upper de domed emitter is really new xpg2 s4 2b.

I thought new S4 2B's are . I'm confused...

I’ve been using Mek to dedomed xml2 emitters. The results ate not perfect but satisfactory with no silicone left on the done. Is there another solvent or solvents that I can add to the mek to get better results? Ild just try stuff but the idea of randomly mixing chemicals is short lived in my mind

Yes it is. The funny thing is I can still get 1000+ meters in an L2 host with a single 26650 by choosing emitters with the lowest Vf. In an ass backwards kinda way I measure the current at 4 volts on my power supply and sort them by how much each draws.

Also, with a clear solvent the tint shift is not discernible unless you compare side by side with a rosy xpl hi. In my opinion the S4 2B still makes a great thrower.

No need to be confused. There is a long thread about old and new types of xpg2s42b (and other G2) emitters here: Cree changed production process for XP-G2 emitters!

This picture maybe best shows difference between old and new one:

The new ones show an ugly green tint shift when dedomed with gasoline apparently. Never tried personally, but others including L.I. have reported this to be so. I can say with confidence that this is not the case with a clear solvent like Aerosolve.

The new ones generally have a higher forward voltage as well which limits the amount of current available to the emitter using a single cell. From what I’ve tested the average current is about 3.7 amps at 4 volts but there are some outliers that run 4 to 4.5 amps. These produce similar throw numbers to the old school S4 2B’s.

You just have to buy a bunch of them and test them individually to find the best ones.

Yes I also found that they mostly draw 3,6 - 3,8A in fet driver configuration. That is not bad for certain configurations cause battery will last longer and performance will be similar to dedomed xm-l2 or XP-L but they will of course draw more current.

And yes it really is greener and uglier than old one. But you will not notice that in reflector lights. You will only notice that in aspheric lights.

So Swib did you tried them in aspheric? If not than you will not notice ugliness of this new s41b emitter and it has nothing with de doming.

I know how to hot de dome(reported from plenty guys that it has least tint shift) and have tried all sorts of solvent methods until I find solvent that works best for me. Boiling hot solvent is best imho and I also can say with confidence that there is no difference in final result with properly(good luck with that  ) hot de dome or hot solvent de dome of same S42B emitter except that solvent hot de dome is far superior and easier so I can for example de dome around 50 emitters at once in not more than 15-20 minutes.
So I would really like to see someone who does hot de doming to do the same.

L.I., can your experience with solvents answer this question I had earlier?

I said several times that I use hot nitro paint thinner (I don’t know if you guys in USA have this).
So I use boiling hot Nitro paint thinner. It is that simple…

Ya I know. But that product is not available in the states nor are the chemicals it is made up of. :frowning: Those of us in the states are apparently not able to self regulate this kind of product. We need some one like a government to be responsible and block its availability.

I think you just must try stuff in USA that is made for thinning a paint or cleaning brushes from paint.
And remember boiling hot stuff(it would better be to cook that outside because of smelly and potentially harmful fumes).

I had similar problem when I was trying to get how do you USA guys say… “mineral spirits”.
There is no such thing on our market…
I needed that for diluting true oil (an excellent gunstock finish). And at the end I find something that works great (zippo lighter fluid  ).

Note well that the boiling of flammable solvents requires the use of *electric* heat. I learned that the hard way...

Oh my!

I’ve also noticed that products in other countries like paint thinner and other similar chemicals have good documentation regarding its make up. In the us, i never know what is actually in the product. Sometimes it’s listed on the product itself but often not. So if I want to find a product with taurine good luck to me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just finished my first dedome! An XM-L2 emitter in boiling paint thinner. It went extremely fast. Like 2-3 minutes.

I used this thinner Förtunning Benco 14 | Utspädning för lackfärg | Nitor | Jula

So you finally started to listen to me guys… Works each time, and it works perfect. 2 minutes dome off…
But if you want ultra clear dd die than 15minutes and after that put it in isoproply alcohol bath and blow with compressed air. Result like MEM or Mitko from this thread each time…

I hate nitro paint thinner it smels so bad but i must try it if the results are so good.

Edit:

Tried and successfully dedomed 2 leds, xml-2 u4 and xpl v6, i like the results and i will use this method from now on.

Hello, it seems too greenish dye? Is a new xpg2 s42b, dedomed gasoline, placed in UF 1504, runs at 4.05 amps at boot with blf a6, regards!

Yeah, green. :stuck_out_tongue:
