ALIVE: Astrolux S42 groupbuy: US$ 25.95

Im pretty p!$$3d with BG and astrolux right now. got $65 in lights sitting unused, and most members here just say suck it up. Memory isnt listed in the A01 so NMM should be acceptable for a $20 AAA twisty light that originally had no memory. They are/will eventually send a new battery tube and USB cover, so $#!tty UI should be acceptable.

Bunch of sheep following the wolves.

Just got an email from bg. 2 unknown items just shipped.
I think its the tube and cover.

Did your “order” also show a cost of $1 for each item? I’m assuming the random order that’s now in my account (with no description of the items, mind you) is probably the USB cover and tube.

Yup, thats what the invoice showed.

The same here…

same for me

and for me

If you don’t like it, file a Paypal dispute and get your money back. It’s a light that was rushed, not well-thought out and many people (myself included) thought it would be a success, especially for the money. Mine wasn’t. Mine came with the front cap loose and when I tightened it, I heard a crack. It broke the carcio lens and dedomed the leds. I got a refund and will probably not buy an Astrolux again. Too many other good lights out there.

I think once you accept the replacement parts as a solution you can not file a PP dispute anymore…

yeah, it’s a bit like sheep following the wolves maybe…

Weird though, i’m still looking forward to a sweet GB deal for the S42S…

I got the 16% off astrolux coupon as well, and my $2 ‘order’ shipped today. My S42 works functions turns on and does not damage cells with the 18650 tube. My A6 will take the stock 18350 tube so I guess that’s good.

I’m hoping one of the BLF brain trust either figures out how to reflash the existing driver or builds a driver that will accept Narsil or Biscotti.

Stockholm syndrome?

Thx for info about the light. BG said they replace tube so waiting until i recieve that.

Hope it all will work out well in the end. But less output than S41 ?.

LOL

well, I am waiting for my 2buck chuck replacement parts to arrive
albeit with much less enthusiasm than I had for the original light

I have my Skilhunt H03 tailcap on mine right now and it’s working reliably
butt will not burn my fingers nor singe my mustache when held in my teeth

not exactly what I was expecting from the hype

think I’ll pass on this brand until they prove what they claim

…either way, it’s a host including LEDs on PCB as far as i’m concerned…

Good news is you can put in any driver when you solder an adaptor ring on it (when it’s less than 21 mm diameter),
because there’s enough room to put a reverse clicky in there, as a side switch.

And i ordered a micro USB rechargeable 18650 to use the charging PCB in stead of the stock PCB.

I already took out the switch boot and its bronze colored bezel and put a plastic boot instead, which doesn’t stick out, it is flush with the body.

I’ll put up some picks soon, when the card reading issues of my camera are solved… :person_facepalming:

So far from reading this is my conclusion

S41 is brighter then s42 ?
S41 tint is better for the same emitter type(XPG vs XPG / Nichia vs Nicha)?

btw. The new revision is now live on banggood, for GB price i will order one. UI is still a problem but i am buying this and put a 18650 tube from S41. Life too short to run 16350

I’m still wondering why the S41 219b is brighter then the S42 219c…
As far as i understand it should be the opposite?

Can someone offer an explanation?

can anyone compare S42 to BLF A6 in term of brightness?

I just did a quick ceiling bounce test between a BLF A6 XPL 3D w Samsung 30Q vs Astrolux S42 Nichia 219c w Aspire 18350.
270 vs 210 says my luxmeter.

But that’s not a fair test - 18650 vs 18350…

I’ll try again with 18650 configuration for both… if i manage to get the S42 to work that way.

PS: after fumbling a bit to get the S42 to work with a 18650 (i had do reverse the tube…)
290 vs 220.

And while i was at it, i compared a Nichia 219b S41 with a BLF A6 3D in 18650 configuration and they come out about the same brightness.

Whichever way you take it, the S42 is dimmer then the S41 (and BLF A6), and i’m still waiting for an explanation… This light was supposed to be brighter right? or am i really confused?

Despite the name of my app, actually bouncing a light off the ceiling isn’t an accurate way to measure output. The reading will be more proportional to intensity than total output, so a light with a reflector will almost always beat a light with a small quad-TIR.
