S42 tube and usb cover arrived and both fit and work.

I kind of chingered my rubber cover, it was a little hard getting that little rubber peg in the hole.
But its holding ok.

Just got a few 30Q’s this week and dropped them in my A6 and the S42. The A6 is noticeably brighter but here’s a completely nonscientific anecdote. When I take out the trash (always after dark due to flashaholism) the flood lights at the side of the house always come on and ruin the fun. Last night I used the S42 with the fully charged 30Q and the floods didn’t activate, I was practically giggling not to mention the heat from the head of the light was just short of too much by the time I made it back to the door. Since I was never going to use the short tube anyway my only remaining complaint is the cruddy usb cover. We’ll see how that works out when it arrives…

Any tips in installing the usb cover? Just received mine today and having a heck of a time getting the “nipple” to fit into the hole. I have even tried some lube on the nipple.

I never got it all the way in because it started tearing from trying to force it in with the tips of needle nose.
Im just goung to leave it, its already all jacked up. My bad.

Fingers alone would not work for me. I used a plastic dental pick, which is somewhat flat and flexible, to work around the edges. It was straight and eventually formed a 45 degree bend which helped. For a final flush finish, it needed a center push from above with a ball point pen for a fit and finish look.

I tried a wooden tooth pick at first, but was to sharp and stiff and only punctured the rubber nipple. It would have eventually chewed it up, making it unusable.

I got my “correct” short tube today and tried it with the 18350 Aspire batteries that I got(5) just for this light. It DOESNT work!! Maybe it is the batteries? I tried the tube both ways, no luck. When I ordered the S42 I got a 18650 tube for it and that works okay but I wanted a 18350 light. Anyone else having trouble with the “new improved” 18350 tube………If not, Im about done fooling with this and may still ask for a refund just on principle.

Does your switch light up at all, prior to turning it on?
Got mine today also, works ok…putting in the rubber port cover is another story.

Nope, not with the new tube. Yes with the 18650…… I havent tried making a paper clip spacer yet.

Pretty much having the same troubles here - both on extraction and replacement.

Tried showing a plastic dental pick around the original nipple, hoping to release the retaining lip and remove it whole. No such luck - the rubber is so fragile that it just snapped off leaving the original tip still inside the flashlight.

Then I tried various tools (including those mentioned here) to firmly seat the new nipple in the hole. It goes about 80% in, and then stops. Firm pressure from above with pen tips, etc. doesn’t seem to matter. I’m wondering if the remnants of the original nipple are occupying some space inside which is preventing the new one from going all the way down. Kinda regret not probing the hole with something stiff first, to be sure the required length of the bore hole was clear.

Whatever you do, prepare for the rubber to look a little ragged when you’re done. It does not stand up well to manipulation.

The new cover is attached firmly enough that I don’t think it will work itself free; so I’m probably going to leave it as is rather than risk shredding the cheap rubber. Having the SKU for the part I might just order another one if I buy from BG again in the near future.

I have 5 aspire cells and they all work fine, rubber bit went in with bit of silicone spray and a prod from a flat head screwdriver, have you read the instructions? you may be in lockout mode, randomly pressing the on off switch without reading first may lead you to think its not working, did with me for a minute or two, big magnifying glass required for the small print.

Think I prefer it with 18650 lg hg2, gets very hot in 30 seconds on turbo, keeps your fingers away from the hot end

Got the new 18350 tube today. Does work with Aspire and Enercig unprotected cells, but I have to screw in the body and tailcap as hard as I can. Dented the Enercig a bit in the process.

I have the same cells but still haven’t received the replacement parts.
From the above comments, it would seem that even the ‘extended’ tube is a tad on the short side… A thin copper (or paper clip) ring inside the tail cap may still be helpful.

Do the people at Astrolux have a number of 18350 cells to try out before going into production? Do they even try? You have to wonder… :person_facepalming:

I have a few Astrolux lights and i like them all.
This S42 thing seems to come from another bunch… Kinda odd.

What else does this battery tube fit? I recall seeing a bigger, c8ish sized host using an Astrolux 18350 battery tube on it

would like to compare it with emisar…producer announced much more lumens…so what is brighter?s41or s42?

S41 by quite a bit it seems

We compared the s41 with the aspire 18350 to the s42 xpg 3 with 18650 lg hg2, s42 got hot really quick, s42 had a brighter overall spill/spread, s41 had a brighter hot spot.

I received my repair parts yesterday. Thanks to the posted troubles others have had installing the usb cover I had some time to think about how I would tackle the job. I ended up selecting a pick I’ve used to extract broken keys from locks and for some gunsmithing tasks. It’s like a really thick dental pick but with a slightly “S” shape curve instead of the usual flat “C”. I wouldn’t call it an easy job since I was trying not to damage the cover but it went in without damage after a few minutes. I’m going to carry it at work for a few days this week just to see how well the cover holds. The UI will keep me from carrying it more than a few days though. I ended up in strobe mode by accident a few times the last time I tried to use it at work and that just won’t do.

Got my parts. I can get the breathing light (whatever that is) bit nothing else with an Efest button 18350 or a 16340. Plug it in, I get a blinking green light. Nothing else.

What am I doing wrong?

Just a question.
Anyone know what optics is used in the s41/42?
