I thought they changed to XHP35 HD because they couldn’t get a hold of the XHP35 HI emitters. Perhaps they tested with the HI version and just used this lux value.
Well, that’s disappointing. My MT02 is en route as I was hoping for a nice budget thrower… I think I should have just saved the money and gotten a Convoy C8…
It still is a lot of throw, and you have a lot more output as well. I believe the spill angle is pretty wide, so the total package may be surprisingly positive. If you still want more throw you can swap to XHP35 HI as well.
Edit:
Check out this video where a modded C8 is compared to the Acebeam L16 (also with XHP35) The latter has an HI emitter, but it’s housed in a smaller reflector, so it’s in a way comparable to the MT02 with an HD emitter in a larger reflector.
There is more to light than just the lux number (check out around 8 minutes 40 seconds): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChGaNA5jLnc
You still got a lot of throw i think, i am not sure how much throw a Convoy C8 XPL HI can make. But the one thing that MT02 is really good at is runtime, with 3x18650 in paralel and Samsung 30Q you have a total of 9000mah.
Haikelite SC01 throws better with smaller reflector and smaller hotspot.
Yes, I was debating between MT02 and SC01, but on paper the MT02 had more throw, so that’s what I went with. Also, I don’t currently own any 26650 batteries, so that would have been an additional expense if I had gone with SC01.
No big deal. I will just wait for it to arrive. I’m hoping I will still like it. I currently don’t own any lights with more than 1,000 lumen output, and none of them are super throwy, so this MT02 light might still be a significant improvement for me.
