Review: Haikelite MT02

Sorry, yes that is the correct term.

This is what i got:

haikelite MT02: 69120cd / 525m (800m Claimed)
Haikelite SC01: 92160cd / 607m (600m Claimed)
Haikelite MT07: 163584cd / 797m (750m Claimed)
Convoy L6: 78336cd / 559m

not sure why haikelite claimed MT02 as 800m throw lights? since other Haikelite throw is actually spot on.

yeah they seems overly optimistic regarding MT02.

My readings on MT02 are very similar to yours. I thought mine was underdriven. I feel better now.

Thank you.

I thought they changed to XHP35 HD because they couldn’t get a hold of the XHP35 HI emitters. Perhaps they tested with the HI version and just used this lux value.

Well, that’s disappointing. My MT02 is en route as I was hoping for a nice budget thrower… I think I should have just saved the money and gotten a Convoy C8…

It still is a lot of throw, and you have a lot more output as well. I believe the spill angle is pretty wide, so the total package may be surprisingly positive. If you still want more throw you can swap to XHP35 HI as well.

Edit:

Check out this video where a modded C8 is compared to the Acebeam L16 (also with XHP35) The latter has an HI emitter, but it’s housed in a smaller reflector, so it’s in a way comparable to the MT02 with an HD emitter in a larger reflector.
There is more to light than just the lux number (check out around 8 minutes 40 seconds): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChGaNA5jLnc

I got something similar reading too.

500m+ is pretty decent when you are talking about 2000lm+ OTF. It is totally different breed compared with C8.

You still got a lot of throw i think, i am not sure how much throw a Convoy C8 XPL HI can make. But the one thing that MT02 is really good at is runtime, with 3x18650 in paralel and Samsung 30Q you have a total of 9000mah.

Haikelite SC01 throws better with smaller reflector and smaller hotspot.

Yes, I was debating between MT02 and SC01, but on paper the MT02 had more throw, so that’s what I went with. Also, I don’t currently own any 26650 batteries, so that would have been an additional expense if I had gone with SC01.

Did you get your MT02 with coupon? They now have SC01 for $32 at gearbest with coupon.

Yes, with coupon.

No big deal. I will just wait for it to arrive. I’m hoping I will still like it. I currently don’t own any lights with more than 1,000 lumen output, and none of them are super throwy, so this MT02 light might still be a significant improvement for me.

risky_p what lux meter did you use to measure your Haikelite MT02, SCO1 and MT07?

I made it myself, it uses Arduino nano v3, BH1750 sensor and 0.96in OLED display. Not the prettiest but gives results
You can also use your mobile phone, with almost similar result, i dont have dedicated Lux meter.

Got my MT02 today. I love the silver finish. The beam pattern is a bit rough, but I have not had a chance to take it outside yet at night to see what it can do.

This actually worked, just barely. The screws are quite short, so you can only accomodate a very thin washer, but it was just barely enough to allow me to squeeze some NCR18650B protected batteries in there.

Thanks again!

Hey Pete7874!

Cheers man! I ordered the silver MT02 from Banggood as well. Hopefully within a week I’ll have mine. Less than $40 for such a beauty, haha! It’s my first Haikelite, so I’m stoked alright. :sunglasses:
And thanks for the recently uploaded videos rizky_p on youtube; I checked them all out. :+1:

BTW, is there any risk running this light on only two Samsung 30Q batteries? Would the max brightness be less than if I ran it on 3 cells?

I only have two 30Q cells, so it’s either that or running on 3 NCR18650B cells instead.

A single 30Q is about three times more powerful than a single NCR18650B, so technically you should be able to power the light with just one cell. But it’s straining the cell quite a bit.
I’m not too familiar with driver design, so I don’t know whether it will influence output. If there is a difference in output, then two 30Qs should be brighter than three protected NCR18650B. Haikelite advises three unprotected NCR18650GA, and maybe three NCR18650B could be insufficient.
Anyhow, two 30Q should be no problem, as long as they have a button top or solder blob for contact.

Mine are flat tops, and they still work in this light.

Ah I see. Didn’t know they would make contact.

Thanks man i really really appreciate that! :+1:

I have a few more side-by-side shots incoming if you interested there all uploaded but still in private including MT03 but i will release it along with my MT03 review. I also have Haikelite MT01(silver) sample by Banggood incoming and probably arrived on Monday so more side-by-side video along with it.
btw I am more interested in receiving my emisar D4 though hahahaha also on Monday.
