Decent capacity power bank

Good folks of BLF,

Can anyone recommend me a decent power bank? I’m taking on a 2 week cycle tour that will include wild camping. Ideally I want as much capacity as I can within budget to be able to keep my phone and garmin in juice. I was hoping to budget around £20 and to find something not too heavy.

Ebay has loads that promise 100,000mah!! I presume that’s just nonsense?
I can find Xaiomi and Aukey packs at 20,000mah in budget - is that the maximum I can realistically expect? Does anyone have any specific recommendations?
I keep checking the deals section on here in case anything turns up.

Cheers!

If you look at the price for quality lithium packs you dont get more than 20000mAh for your budget

For recharging the bank, maybe you shouls invest in a foldable solar charger than in more capacity

Thanks Lexel, that is kind of as I guessed. So the question moves to which 20,000mah pack I guess?

Having spoken to lots of touring cyclists, I don’t think solar is an option. I will be on the bike all day. You can mount a panel to the bike, but it’s likely to be in and out of shade and rarely at an optimum angle - so I doubt I’d get much charge in.
I might have to invest in 2 packs and just charge them at campsites when I can. Also, I’m aiming to travel as light as I can.

I would recommend xiaomi 20000 mah gen 2, it has great power efficiency, and the price is good
for 20$ i dont think you can find something better

Is there somewhere special to find it at $20? Gear best, banggood etc are all $30-$40+

i think with coupon in this forum(at somewhere, i dont know), it is about 2x $(which is quite over 20$, but worth)

I’d buy one in a second for $20. I have 2 of the newer 10,000mAh Xiaomi’s I’m super pleased with. I also have an older 10,400mAh Xiaomi which is still going strong after a couple of years of regular use.

Link doesn’t appear to work, although I know what you’re getting at. A good solution, but decent ones are expensive to buy and I also don’t have the skills to rebuild my wheels to accommodate which leads to more expense. I’m fairly confident that a power bank is right for my needs (actually I suspect I’ll find loads of other uses for it beyond this trip too!)

This is the one with most good reviews, but only 250ma.
It’s easy to install.
I would get this and the power bank.

Xiaomi 20,000mah V2 for sure. Can be found for as low as 21.99, normally at 24.99.

Where is this Powerbank normally at $24.99?
Gearbest has a flash-sale and it’s more expensive: http://www.gearbest.com/power-banks/pp_600939.html

I’m leaning towards this……unless it doesn’t look like a decent buy

Yesterday it was at $25.99, but the code expired GearBEST's Sale . Rovyvon A5 $15.99 . Convoy S21 $15.99 - #696 by Fin17

Just wait a couple days until some deal shows up, the 10,000mAh version was on sale for 11.99 just last week.

I think that aukey powerbank is a very good quality option.

But don’t you have some unprotected 18650’s lying around?

I use this one quite a lot > Aili powerbank ebay

It’s very cheap and gets the job done well. HKJ tested it.

If you don’t have any 18650’s, buy them as well and at some point a nice flashlight to use them in.

The Xiaomi 20k V2 is great. I tested mine out at like 97% efficiency. It was like 14,400 out of a possible 14,800 mah.

I also really like the besiter 6x 20k mah with the usb/usb c dual charging. Only takes a few hours to charge, which is great when you are on the go. It ended up around 90% efficient.

1. yes, it's just a paper tiger.
2. 20,000mAh are 74Wh. A single 18650 cell with 10Wh capacity costs around 10€. So 1€/Wh is possible for powerbanks too. £20 will get you a good 37Wh/10Ah powerbank.
