Zanflare shipped me one of the new F1 lights and asked if I would take it out for a little spin.

Here is what you get in the box. Pretty standard, Spare O-rings, belt clip, lanyard and what I think is more of a carrying case than a holster.

It was very well packed, the box could have taken a beating and still kept the light safe.

My first impressions were higher than I expected. The light is very well made. The fit and finish was as good as I have seen. No sharp edges and good machine work on the threads.

My favorite part about this light is the way they have incorporated the USB charging plug. It is tucked away nice and safe with no worries of loosing the cover. This was an excellent idea.

I normally charge all of my cells in quality chargers but there are times that I use a USB charger and I love this one.

The light is very simple to operate, the U.I. is simple but effective.

The tail switch only turns the light on and off. It does have memory so when you turn it on you will find it at the same level you turned it off last. To cycle through the light levels and strobe/SOS functions you do that by single clicks of the side switch all the way to high. If you want flare you need to double click. A single click will take you back to the level you were at before activating flare. For strobe press and hold the side switch for 2 seconds then a single click goes to SOS. To return to normal light modes press and hold for 2 seconds again and you go back to the level you were at when you activated strobe.

The light levels are spread out very nicely. You start with a very low moonlight about 1 lumen, next is low at 50 lumen then medium at 290 lumen then high at around 590 (I measured well over 600) lumen and finally what they refer to as flare, many of use would call this turbo it comes in at 1240 lumen and I verified that as well and it is almost dead on it or just above.

It really is a great light and the price is reasonable.

The more I use it the more I like it.

Yep, I said that it’s the best thought-out light I’ve ever seen, the attention to little details.

I couldn’t get over the green of the NW light, but CW isn’t too bad. I’m finding myself using it at home more and more exclusively.

Moonlight/Firefly is about as low as I’ve seen, and is perfect for late-night when everything’s blacked-out. Strobe is very well hidden and doesn’t get in the way, and doubleclick-to-flare is a nice quick way of getting max lumens for when you want it. So I can keep it on moonlight and then “flare” when on critter-patrol. No need to cycle through modes to get there or back.

And yesterday I pulled a LG cell from a defunct powerpack that I’m scavenging for cells, didn’t want to go look for a charger, so popped out the panny-B, popped in the LG, and charged it overnight. No muss, no fuss.

So for home use, yep, it’s becoming my go-to light.
