Review: Haikelite MT02

I dont know what happened. It just fell off.

Im thinking that me trying to squeeze in protected cells put a large strain on it and weakened it. But in my defense, there is no warning on haikelites page NOT to use protected cells.

Another question, does this light have any kind of low voltage protection?

I am sure the rest of the light would be ok once you fixed the tail spring, could be the protected cells but none of my protected cell is short enough to power the flashlight so i gave up on that.

I am not sure of the of low voltage protection it is not mentioned anywhere in the manual, but the ramp up and down thing when battery almost empty is not documented either, in my opinion that ramp up and down is a battery low indicator since i could reproduce it every time.

btw. i have asked Haikelite to answer some of the questions posted here.

Eventually the light cuts off at 3.0V according to this review: https://www.lilahand.de/2017/07/09/laufzeitdiagramme-haikelite-mt02-sc01-sc02/

Got it thank you.

btw. This what Haikelite said.

All haikelite lights have low voltage protection.
Ramp up and down is low battery indication signal.

So it is true that ramp down and up is a battery low indicator.

I re-soldered it last night. Let’s see if it holds up.

i opened mine too this both came from MT01 and MT02. freeme also had the same problem but with SC01 head spring.

re-soldered mine, also re-soldered them all around not one sided. There are few things that could contribute, the coating of the spring, Haikelite uses lead free solder or the solder is not flowed properly.

I will update this in main review.

What about Neutral white version?
I only found CW on BG

There is no MT02 NW, AFAIK.

I dont think NW is available for MT02. It is available for MT01.

At what distance do you do the test?

Using LX1330B meter at 12 feet distance I got 4300 lux, which converts to 57,525cd, so quite a bit less than what you got. This was with 3 fresh 30Q cells.

Tested at 4.8m. I’ll do the test again.

Well i did the test and came up at 2800 Lux @4.8m or 64512cd with slightly discharge LG HG2 so it is still within that area, try longer distance you could very well be measuring the hole in the hotspot

I got 73,800cd@3m with 3xMJ1 on GM1020.

OK. Thanks.

Does room lighting affect the results much? Does it have to be pitch black, etc?

I am not sure it will effect that much i measured mine with ambient light of around 2 Lux so not completely dark, since we are measuring in the thousand a few luxs would not hurt the result.

Little to no effect. The light is very intense, so the initial value of the lux meter from ambient lighting should be very low. Even then, you can still do the test, and deduct the initial value if you want to. So there is no need for the room to be absolutely dark.

Exactly. It’s only 2 lux, so percentage wise it’s negligible. Biggest possible error is insufficient distance and inaccurate lux meter.

Is there an easy way to check my meter’s accuracy?

You can compare your values with values you find in reviews. For example, a lot of reviews say Convoy L6 stock has lux value of about 70k lux. You can find a bunch of lux values for Haikelite lights as well.

Tested again, this time from a distance of 18 feet (about 5.5 meters): 59,298cd. This was with slightly discharged 30Q (4.07V).

BTW, I was walking around with it last night… with 3 cells loaded, coming in at over 1lb of weight, you can certainly feel its heft after some time. I do like the amount of output it provides, but it is never going to be my EDC. I had my Convoy S2+ in the other hand, and much prefer its size for EDC. I just ordered the new S2+ Desert Tan since it looks like it has a better balance between throw and flood, compared to my current S2+.

I think your light is okay dont get too overly concern over candela figures, yours is up there with my my MT02.

Yeah i notice that too the weight of it with 3 cells made the palm a bit tired/cramped using 2 cell does help a lot in the long walk, certainly not EDC-able as in Convoy S2+ but will surely fits inside your backpack or larger pocket, i would carry this in a bag not in the pants though.
