NW is indeed the only option
No glue will be used so swapping emitters is possible, giving all the option to use preferred LEDs.
Since NW is more popular, I bet t will not be hard to trade the emitters with somebody else on the forum for the cost of postage
joechina is right, the picture was taken with my smartphone and should not be taken as reference, neither for color/bin/tint nor for CRI of the final LED. In fact I just took the image for explaining something during the conversion with LT and I used what I had next to me. Iāll try to make a proper beamshot in a week or so (have to check if I have a triple, normally I use LEDās with higher CRI) but in fact there wonāt be much special on a possible beamshot. Until now we donāt intend to use any special/secret/new components and therefore the beamshot should look pretty much the same as every other beamshot with an XP-G3 and a Carclo 10507
Not sure why the relative throwiness reverses sometimes, but the 10511ās throw increases if you polish the frosted part by rubbing it on fabric or somethingā¦ and afterward it still has less corona artifacts than the 10507. Itās too bad they donāt seem to come in a non-frosted 10511 variety.
Here are a few configuration estimates, taking into account the optic specs and an estimated lumen count:
219c w/ 10507: ~3000 lm, ~9.9 kcd lux
219c w/ 10511: ~2950 lm, ~8.5 kcd lux
XP-G2 w/ 10507: ~2500 lm, ~11.9 kcd lux
XP-G2 w/ 10511: ~2400 lm, ~13.2 kcd lux
XP-G3 w/ 10507: ~3600 lm, ~11.1 kcd lux
XP-G3 w/ 10511: ~3500 lm, ~9.5 kcd lux
XP-L HI w/ 10507: ~3350 lm, (no cd/lm data available, guessing ~18.7 kcd lux)
XP-L HI w/ 10511: ~3300 lm, (no cd/lm data available, guessing ~20.8 kcd lux)
These are all totally theoretical though, using numbers from Carcloās specs and measurements of similar lights. Theyāre probably pretty far off from reality. Mostly I just wanted to show that there are a variety of sweet spots for different use cases. The FW3Aās specified config is one of those sweet spots, but other options might be interesting later too.
Mostly, I just think the 10511ās beam looks a lot smoother, and the difference in throw is usually small. Hereās how they compare in two of my lightsā¦ 10507 on the left, 10511 on the right:
The best beam I've seen come from a triple was with a polished 10511 and dedomed xpe torch LEDs. It throws at least double of xpl hi and it's still very usable up close.
It's downfall is the tint is terrible imo and the output is only about 1400 lumens with a FET driver but the beam profile is perfect.
I thought I was on the list for this, but I probably have it confused with one of the other projects that are in the works. Miller would you please go ahead and add my name.
Sorry if that was discussed earlier - i havenāt read the whole thread.
Iām already on the list for one and i would be in for a second one if there was a high CRI (Nichia 219c 90+?) option available at some point. Only one emitter choice is it?
As it goes, iāll probably want a second one anyway. :person_facepalming:
Let us combine a few pieces of information we have gathered, the first came to the Q8 team today.
We have received word the factories that make (parts of) the Q8 are busy for the last quarter production, a busy season.
Lumintop wants to get the GT done before their production for busy season is in full swing.
We have not reached a stage of prototyping the FW3A, it is all CADs.
My guess is this one might take a while. And if I had to say when, judging by how fast Lumintop can work Iād say Q1/Q2 2018
