Hurricane Harvey-Tropical Storm Harvey, prayers needed

Tornadoes have been popping up on the NorthWest side of Houston. Yuck!

Well said, DBC. Prayers going up! Saint Medard, pray for us!

Had one about 1 mile from my home, luckily it missed us, phew! Feel sorry for the people that have their homes damaged

The Weather Channel has been saying that Harvey would about face back to the coast then turn around again and head towards Houston. By all accounts so far it is simply slow drifting from North of Victoria straight towards Houston. The Eastern rain bands will be pummeling Houston all night and local street flooding is already happening. The weather service reported that 84 flood gauges between San Antonio and Houston all expected to set record flood levels by 5PM tomorrow night. So the entire Houston area, which is enormous, is very likely to face flooding issues throughout the night and into tomorrow night, possibly beyond.

I’ve been watching the radar and they’re showing rain from this tropical storm almost filling the triangle between San Antonio, Houston and D/FW…. I-35, I-10, I-45…. this is a truly massive area to be under one storm! Even bands into LA are causing problems with our neighbor.

So still, even without the major storm damage of a Cat 4 Hurricane, there are millions in jeopardy as water levels rise and tornado’s continue to be spawned.

The last I heard, one man had lost his life in a fire caused by the Hurricane. (a transformer exploding, most likely, from a downed pole) We can just continue to hope it’s only property and not lives….

Houston is getting hammered by the rain, most if not all creeks are over flooded, most highways are shut down and there are high water rescues on some places, it’s going to be bad for Hustonians, as OP said keep us in your prayers

DB, may I sugest to rename this thread to Hurricane Harvey check-in or something similar so BLF users who live in the affected areas can stop by and let us know if they are OK?

Thanks!

Pray for you guys in Texas. Stay safe guys and good luck.

I just saw on TV the heavy damage brought about by Harvey particularly in Garland, Texas, where my friend Saabluster lives.

I am hoping and praying everyone in Harvey’s path are ok and can manage to go back to their feet when it’s over.

Here are some local websites covering this catastrophic event…

http://www.chron.com

Some of you may not remember, but manxbuggy1 and his brother rdrfronty live down that way. As does robo819. We have quite a few forum family members getting caught up in all the flooding and possible tornado’s so yes, please continue to keep the folks in South/ SouthEast Texas in mind…. as well as Louisiana.

If the people there that stayed and rode it out would stay chill and not get impatient it would probably help, there are a LOT of rescue personel out and about trying to assist those that are stranded. Best wishes to all those that have to leave their families and go out in the storms to help people that couldn’t or wouldn’t leave for high ground…

I really can’t imagine what you guys are going through.
Thank God we don’t have those storms around here…

Best wishes for everyone down there!

Thanks a lot for these local links.

Wow, this is NOT good….

I wish all the people who are in this catastrophic conditions lots of safety and love to get over this dangerous situation!

Historically, the aftermath is when lots of deaths/injury occurs here in Florida.

My prayers are with all the Texans going thru this.

In the aftermath pounding rains, many try to run generators under awnings by closed windows, in porches, garages, covered patios. etc, bad idea since the fumes tend to find there way in the house and kill.
I know all our forum members know better, but maybe for our involved forum Texans, keep your eyes open for your neighbors doing unwise things in and after the storm. Talk to them, many are in a state of shock and not thinking correctly. Around here, in the aftermath is when lots of stressed people do stupid things…

I was looking on the map at Houston, it essentially is a 43 mile by 43 mile metropolis… 1849 square miles of city! And the storm is flooding an area far larger than Houston, maybe 10 times and maybe more that size. So there will be a LOT of people without power, there will be feces in water, snakes in houses, mosquitoes galore and no electricity, no cell phone towers, no AC. No gas for generators. And food too may be a big problem. Pets, and all those discarded pets that had been running wild, rats, there’s just so much that will be going on, it’s going to take a divine intervention in the long run for all this to come out even remotely well.

They are saying it’s trapped between high pressure systems, effectively holding it in place. It’s close enough to shore that it continues to pull moisture in off the gulf and deluge massive areas with unprecedented rainfall. Houston may well get 5 more days of rain!

Here’s what they’re saying is going to happen, zones marked with total inches of rainfall…

This night time satellite image from NASA shows where the cities and larger towns are in relation to Harvey as it made landfall, and the sheer size of this storm system. You can clearly see a dense cluster of lights at about a 10 O’Clock position from the eye of the Hurricane, San Antonio. The I-35 corridor running North/NorthEase from San Antonio shows how Austin is scattered out more along the highway. The next main lighted cities are a clump to the right, a small clump directly to it’s left, then a larger clump of lights further left, which is Killeen/ Ft. Hood. I am at the larger right clump, 200 miles from the coast. We are expected to see in the range of 4” from this system, even from 200 miles away.

:open_mouth:

No it’s not. I feel terrible for all that are affected.

So far our small subdivision in Katy has been spared all the power outage and flood, fortunately all our services are working, just had a couple of power outages of less than 5 seconds, so far cell phone towers are working (T-Mobile) the problem is not the wind, it’s the friggin rain!!!

Nearby Walmart, HEB, Kroger, Target stores are closed. The only store open is Randall’s but it was packed with people, some of the small meat markets are open. Gas has jumped from 1.99 to 2.39 and there is some price gouging on the gas stations charging milk 4.59 per gallon, store has them at around 2.00 but were out.

There have been at least 120 tornado warnings so far, curfew in some places in the east of Houston has been declared, expecting more rain tonight!

The night it hit, WC showed the eye to be 52miles large. The biggest the weather forecaster or myself had seen about to hit landfall. That size eye hitting around my area, could hit parts of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. I've never seen a eye that big hit South Florida.
