- The Fake-Cree LED Awareness Thread - The new "low" in Budget lights.

It seems than even LB clones are too expensive for chinese flashlights these daysā€¦ so I guess they sourced an even cheaper LED from an OEM manufacturer that clones the clones

K.

Iā€™ve done some current test, and they explain what I saw. My multimeter is not too good so it may be a little inaccurate but at least the results are good for comparison.

With a 3.85v battery: my XP-E draws 460mAh, and the ā€œXMLā€ 640mAh and 330mAh at medium, which makes sense because the brightness at ā€œmediumā€ is similar to the XP-E ā€œhighā€ and it should be since the XML is much larger and should be more efficient. And I did not see much difference in lumens when using 3xAAA (520mAh). That puts the XML at 2.64W, letā€™s say itā€™s 3W, itā€™s pretty low.
I would blame the driver for this.

PD: With the battery charged to 4.08v, XP-E: 580mAh, which makes total sense, it agrees with other reviews and it means that my multimeter works well. For 4.14v the XML 770mAh, itā€™s better, and outputs a decent amount for lumens for the watts used, but I believe that could be much more powerfull, but itā€™s ok.
I will not do more testing.

Fake XM-L2 found in a Supwildfire thrower.

Argh. How else can they make it cheaper? I suppose they can fiddle with the phosphor mix. That would change the emitted spectrum.

looks more like an sst-40 fake to me.

The above post is misplaced in this thread and close to commercial spam, but the pictures are nice

Dear bhvm, there is a thread for car headlights, you may get response for your bulbs there:
Link: The BLF Automotive Car LED headlights, results, opinions and beamshots!

Dear DJ,
This thread is about Genuine/Fake Cree LEDs so I am giving you some brain food to think on. Its not commercial.

BTW these are not MY bulbs. I am just the reviewer. And my reviews arenā€™t sponsored crap. It would help to go through the entire thread in above links as I am comparing this bulb to few others. Hence the Explanation TEXT on pics.

Itā€™s about fakes actually.
But welcome to BLF.

Then Iā€™m mistaken, and sorry about that. I did follow your link and your posts in that automotive forum suggested that you are enthousiastic about the product but also related to the brand. I did not say that your reviews are crap, I just assumed a relationship to the brand. Thereā€™s many reviews here on BLF of which the writers are are in various grades related to the sellers of the products they are reviewing, but many are still quality reviews (BLF may be a bit special in that aspect).

My suggestion posting in the car headlight thread was well-meant by the way, I think it is a good idea

1. Sure I would like to take your idea forward and participate more on BLF. I have completed research with some of the Top research teams with respect to LED tints (CCT, CRI, Warm on Dim, Dual tone etc).

2. Am also quite interested in knowing how my posts ended up sounding ā€˜Brand affiliatedā€™ so I may mend that. Because I purchase all my review units by hard earned cash. Absolutely no Brand patroning. However I also do not step back from suggesting which brands worked well with me and which didā€™nt. So that many people may follow my purchases.

3. My Specialty is that I keep updating my reviews 2~5~7 years long. I do have some long term data on (limited) products. Feel free to drop me a query on that.

Have a nice day!

Does anyone knows if Coast uses a real/fake LED? I have a hp7 and looking at the hp17, 970 lumens and hp14, 629 lumens.

The couple Coast lights i have use real Cree LEDs. Coast is a division brand of LED-Lenser, and been known to use real brand name LED emitters.

I was looking through the lens and I couldnā€™t see any marking or lines on the LED. Itā€™s hard to see without taking anything apart, Iā€™m not going to take anything apart with my luck nothing will go back together right.

Thanks for the reply!

Fake ?

if its a fake then a good one, looks pretty much like a XML2

Is it fake?

Square wire pads

This is fake

Thx!

Oh man that is a very well done fake indeed

Definitely not a genuine Cree. Likely a latticebright XM-L2 knockoff.
