Review: DRY cool white, 4-mode/step-down

Buy me one and I'll compare it for you

I was thinking the same thing . . . I mean . . . you buy/I compare.

How dry I am...how dry I am...nobody knows...how dry I am.

Good review Foy, might have to catch this next time around on a GB.

Missed the boat on this one, due to procrastination, and use my 5X Q5 anyway.

I have both and in my opinion, DRY can't really be compared to TK70 in terms of throw.

Even though DRY produces slightly more OTF lumens than TK70, its reflector is just too narrow and shallow to be a serious thrower.

It is one heck of flood light though lighting everything around you.

check this picture i just took for reflector size comparison.

Do you feel the TK70 is worth $200 ? I can get one for $179.00 shipped from a US seller. think I should?

I paid about CDN$180 shipped and I think it's totally worth it. Someone at CPF mentioned his TK70 out-threw his olight SR-90 ($400).

I can get one on amazon right now, for $179.00 shipped, 3 day shipping free.

EDIT: Man... My wife is going to KILL ME

Damn you TGX78, you talked me into it!!!

Thanks for a great review! The only thing keeping me from ordering one is cash shortage.

"tail cap draw: (Solarforce protected 2400) - 4.30 amps - turbo"

Anyone with a DMM and some flame Trustfires?

I have those and they seem to work fine on DRY even on turbo.

I hit 4.5a on my tf flames

with new 3000 flames I hit 4.8a with batteries at 4.12v..but they are tiiigghhhttt..just got mine right now...

On my DRY strobe mode trips the protection circuit on the Flame batteries.

Very nice review Foy! Sorry I just now got to it. Frontpage'd and Sticky'd now. :)

The DRY pretty much changed everything, even if it is as ugly as sin. ;) It's definitely a big success for the budget market.

The smallish o-ring and slight battery holder rattle were the only minor annoyances. Otherwise really awed by the amount of light coming out from such a small compact design.

I used a dremel tool with a wire wheel to de-burr the threads on my DRY, much smoother now and you can actually run your finger across the threads without getting your finger cut :P

There we go. Enjoy! :)

Mouse out: E1320 modified F15 (XM-L @ 3.50 amps)
Mouse over: DRY Turbo

Out: E1320 modified C88 (XM-L @ 3.50 amps)
Over: DRY High

Out: DRY High
Over: DRY Turbo

High vs Turbo is not exactly HUGE, but it's significant. The heat on Turbo is ALSO significant.

Out: E1320 modified C88 (XM-L @ 3.50 amps)
Over: E1320 modified F15 (XM-L @ 3.50 amps)

Mouseovers Rock

yes they do, and so does the Dry :)

Trust me guys, from my experience with all the triples and 4 of these, try not to do above 4A. It is already very good at 4A, there is no need at all to try to aim for 5A unless you are living in a very cold place like Alaska or Canada or Northeasten China/Moscow. I know the feeling that you want MORE and MORE, but seriously there is no need.

And at this juncture this and the TM11 are the only triples with NW and this one is the only one with WW.

My 4 x U2 emitters came on LED DNA. Going to change one copy out. :) Hope it does 3000L OTF! (or probably close to it).

I must admit; I tried to do the mouse-over some time ago and encountered a strange mental block . . . I just couldn't figure it out . . . but I will.

viktori - thank you so very much; those show the difference rather dramatically.
