The 5th Annual BLF / Old Lumens Scratch Made Light Contest

I’m going to try and get one entered this year. Even though I’m not planning on using a mill or lathe, or any precision cutting machines, I think I’m going to end up in the machine made category.

I’ve just spent the last 1/2 hour on my build with an angle grinder…. not much precision there either :cowboy_hat_face:

Good to see another entrant. There’s still two months to go, plenty of time to get a build going!

Do it! You never fail to impress. :+1:

Best wishes to everyone who is working on an entry!

I might be able to come up with a little something this year in the hand made category

Thanks for joining in the fun. It matters little what you use to build your light. Its just good to challenge yourself with whatever you have and we all enjoy watching the processes we go through.

I’ll give it a shot this year too.
No ideas yet though…

Good to see you in the mix again, Jerommel :+1:

I’m seriously winging it this time - I’ve spent more time failing on a particular part, it’s not funny…& I have to spend more time posting up the string of failure… :person_facepalming:

Just in case anyone missed the link added in the first post, I am in and my build link is located here.

Is it possible to enter the OptoFire build I finished a few months ago into the hand made category?

Or does the flashlight need to be specifically built from the start for the competition?

You need to start building after the competition starts, not a previously made light.

Oooh I see, I thought it started after the previous one ended so you had a year to build.
Never mind then

Don’t give up so easily. You can still enter and build something new. We have excellent sportsmanship in this “contest”. We help each other if needed. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, or even for spare parts. Several of us have plenty of those too. :person_facepalming:

That was just me that didn’t stop building lights after last years comp

+1

Not in two months time :frowning: I still need to finalize my 3d design and budget.
Also I need to check if my design is patent-able and possibly hire a patent attorney to check that it hasn’t been created already.
Once it is patent pending (or I find out it can’t be patented) then I will be able to make forum posts about it
So maybe for next year’s competition it will be ready…

Does my homemade BLF GT prototype count? It was, after all, the first functional prototype…

Multifunctional, I like it

Is that what they call a ‘toilet plunger’ light? :person_facepalming:

Question:. In the hand made class would it be okay to use a woodworking router to round wood edges or maybe cut a groove??

This is the one … http://www.rockler.com/porter-cable-1-3-4-hp-d-handle-router-model-691?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_content=pla&utm_campaign=PL&sid=V9146&gclid=CjwKCAjw9O3NBRB3EiwAK6wPT93g2yXmTWnIMvv3tI8Z7SmXofz\_\_zYMkqWoKKuKerJM4RLRGm3cmxoCFX4QAvD_BwE

Thank you.

In my book it would be ok but I’m not a judge or the head honcho running the show. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m working on other (house) stuff for a couple of days and we’ll see what shakes out.
