I ordered this flashlight yesterday. I'm curious to see what it's like.
The funny part is I don't plan to use this flashlight as it is designed, as a flood-to-throw.
My intention is to use this light as my "walkabout" flooder. My plan right now is to remove the zooming head to expose the pill, install glass over the emitter, and then wear the light (sans the head) in my Nite Ize swivel holster. We'll see if this new light is a worthy replacement for my UltraFire P10-R5, which is my current "immediate vicinity" flooder.
Extremely compact and light, the P10-R5 has been extremely useful in this role. Without the reflector or bezel, and with only a glass lens installed, the P10 produces a very wide curtain of light, and operating from the swivel holster makes it so convenient to use.
I'm hoping this Keygos has mode memory, or that it always starts on high... It will be heavier than the P10 for sure, but the 26650 should offer longer runtimes on a light that I anticipate using constantly. I'm curious to see if XML offers a wider curtain of light too. Well see.
That looks very similar to an Ultrafire one that wasn't considered to be very good. 1600 lumens is such a ridiculus lie that I would want to avoid it entirely.
There is a Yezl flood to throw that seems to be a bit better. Heres a review link that shows both teh yezl and the ultrafire that I was discussing.
Bottom line seems to be that the throw on XM-L is really awful because the emitter is so freaking fat and not very directional.
joe1512, the good thing of it, it works with 26650, which will give a better runtime on a relatively compact light, and if you do not like XM-L for flood to throw lights, you could replace it by an XR-E with about 3 hours of runtime on high.
It is more a thing of taste in my opinion, I really like XM-L with big lenses, it throws less than XR-E yes, but throws a good distance, and the flood is its better thing when the lens is well designed, it shows an homogeneous huge circle.
Yep! Very comfortable to hold. Super crazy long run times on 26650’s (I haven’t charged the battery yet and have been using it tons!). Love it. After I cleaned the LED and painted the internals black, it works great now
Have you seen the picture of the reflector on ebay? It's got fingerprints all over it! Must come as standard, instead of putting a little sticker on telling you who built the light, he leaves his fingerprints and DNA all over the reflector. Cool!
