ENEDED

Interested!

It’s for preorder now @Banggood for US$49.98; do we get a better price via this groupbuy!?…

Lets hope so, I’m not interested at that price…

looks like the price can only go up if not enough people pre order.
hmm tricky situation

I hope that too….previously I was mainly interested in the 3panel version… Because of portability (I have to use it while moving /hiking and it has to stay tied to my Dragon egg mkII backpack). I already targeted the 3panel at about 25-28 usd few days ago. But when I saw this and thought about the overcast performances that could be better than its little brother I thought I could maybe think of a compromise with size, or maybe it could work with one panel folded… Don’t know… So in summary I really hope it will be a great deal Lol

Ordered one, thanks Freeme.

Ordered. Thanks

It’s a bit too costly for me at that price. It was going to be my first foray into solar chargers and isn’t something that I really need so I’m going to pass. Thanks for organizing this though.

+1

Freeme please explain, see a price going up when less are ordered? so if less then 100 are doing a pre order, do the people that have made the pre order need to pay extra? Or is it low price for the first 100 and then a little more for the next? argh, dont get it.

From the product detail section of the page:

Preorder Discount Before 1200 Orders
$49.98 1-100 orders
$52.98 101-400 orders
$57.98 401-800 orders
$63.98 801-1200 orders

I interpret it as the first 100 pre-orders get it at 49.98, then pre-orders 101-400 have to pay a few extra dollars at 52.98, pre-orders 401-800 pay a little more, etc. Cheaper prices for the earliest pre-orders. Entices people to pre-order early to get the best price. Classic “early bird gets the worm” marketing strategy.

From what i observed from the past 3yrs+, please take note that it may or may not happen to all deals ...

Scenario #1 - if pre-order sale is good, they will continue to run it till the specified date or quantity.

Scenario #2 - if there is a lack of demand for pre-order after running for couple weeks, they will terminate pre-order and it will be sold in full price, partial discount or coupon deal. Product will be put it up for Flash Sale status during special events at close to pre-order rates.

We went through several round of discussions before we arrived at $49.98. Price was derived from our initial interest from this thread. I believe this is already the rock bottom for this new product. Like all products, it will only fall under $49.98 when there is a replacement product or model turns obsolete later.

From what i was told, 4 panel version was capable to produce 28W in lab, whereas 3 panel rated at 20W only max out at 18W. Package is about 0.8kg/ 1.76 pounds, we all know that international shipping fee is not going to be cheap.

Too bad Banggood doesn't want me to have one. I have ordered one before and it was cancelled without notice. I think they have an issue with my paypal address and postage address.

Ah thanks
Clear now

Not interested at $50, sorry.

Ordered one. 49,98 $ for 28 w isnt that bad.

Thanks

A 4-panel, 28W charger for less than the price of a 3-panel, ~20W charger looks tempting. I’m interested.

Hopefully, that extra output will allow this one to provide a useful charging rate for a single device under sub-optimal light.

Over hundred pieces pre-ordered.

I’ve been looking closely at folding, portable solar USB chargers over the past few days. From what I can tell, units with these high-efficiency SunPower cells go for ~$2 or more per nameplate watt delivered to the US. So, $50, or $52.98, for a 28W unit is likely as good as it’ll get any time soon.

I ended up finding a 21w 3/panel on Amazon for ~$36 with same day delivery, so I snapped it up and wrote the first review. I only gave it three stars because the product description was self-contradictory and didn’t quite match what I received, but near as I can tell, it performs like most of the other products in its class that people reviewed. With good sun, good orientation, and no shadowing I could pull ~10W in the early afternoon using an adjustable load. Later in the afternoon, I could charge two USB powerbanks — a Jackery ThunderX 20,000 mAh and a thin Xiaomi 5,000 mAh (pouch sell) at about 2.4A combined, though I think it may have been capable of more.

Anyway, $52.99 for these BW-PW3 look like a good deal.

Updated.
