New Convoy C8 – Clearly better

I can’t say if that’s as hot as one gets, or if those numbers are accurate, but I can say that 66c is not “too high” for the electronics. That heat won’t hurt your light. It may hurt your hand though. How tough are you?

Bottom line — if you can stand to hold it, its not too hot.

If you’re holding your light, it doesn’t get that hot. Your hand draws a lot of heat from the light. I think those run-time temperature graphs are done with the light tail-standing.

66°C is not at all a problem, especially with XML LEDs,
lights with XPL footprint and DD should have a DTP star, or the emitter itself gets too hot

Sorry if this was already answered, but does Simon make this new C8 xpl hi available in colors other than silver?

Yes. Message him on AE to request it.

3tronics does some beautiful powder coatings too.

Thanks! A grey C8 is calling my name… I see people get around 80,000 cd out of them in stock form - that would make for some impressive pocket thrower. My current go-to thrower is Thorfire VG-10, and that barely clocks in at around 12,000 cd.

You’ll be satisfied for sure. I have a C8 with a domed XM-L2 and an OP reflector, and it’s still easily my longest-reaching torch despite the throw-unfriendly setup. It laughs in the face of a 100m distance!

Yes, I have a stock C8 silver, and it’s a great pocket thrower. Jacket pocket, perhaps. Easily my go-to for an outdoor thrower, since it’s so light. I have the 7A and 3A, and I prefer the 7A tint. Though I might get a 4C, since it’s probably a good compromise.

If all you have now is 12k cd, you’ll notice a huge difference. But bring a flooded as your main light, because a C8 is bad up close.

Indeed. A C8 is far from a good pick for indoors even on its lowest non-moonlight mode.

Unless you’re tail-standing it. Throwers make great lights for tail-standing, since you don’t get much spill to catch your eyes when sitting near the flashlight. And, the C8 seems to have an AR coating, so you don’t get glare off the lens either.

I like the 7A tint on the C8 for indoor tail-standing. Nice incandescent-like light.

True. Ceiling bounce with them is a dream, especially in 7A tint. I have an M1 in that and love it to death – when I’m in bed, I set it to 0.1% or 1% depending on what I want to do, tailstand it on the nightstand then put a Thrunite T10 diffuser on top of the lens. Best lamp ever.

Well, I have a Haikelite MT02 that measures around 60k cd, but it’s just too heavy to carry around on my long nightly walks. It’s a good exercise though.

Yes sir. I’ve got an OTR M3 clipped to my cap visor, and this one’s pretty floody. I just need something throwy and not too heavy in my jacket pocket to occasionally light up something further in the distance, which is what I’m using the VG-10 for, currently.

I put an LD-25 driver in my black C8 and i really like it.

It’s a 3 mode (plus hidden strobe) 3 Amperes regulated FET driver. No PWM.

Hello long time to read the thread returned to ask something if someone has the answer. Is that pouch good for the flashlight? http://www.military1st.eu/ma48-008-condor-flashlight-pouch-multicam.html
as i can read the dimension of the flashlight is:
Diameter of head : 44.5mm
Length : 143mm
Diameter of body : 25.6mm
and the pouch Dimensions: 5.3”x2”x0.8” (13.5x5x2cm)
Thank you in advance.

Wow, fascinating, and looks build quality :+1:

Can’t tell about that, but you have some specific holsters for C8 from Convoy Store

I have the second one and has a very cheap feeling, i have the first one for convoy s2 it’s very good quality and sturdy built. thank you for the info.

Anyone here done some mod with this C8?
I put XHP50 with Noctigon, but the result, got some ring spot in the center.
Put the reflector several times, thinking it might loose, but seems not.
Any suggestion?

It is not a bug. It is a feature of XHP leds with SMO reflectors. The cross in the led make the dark center of the hot spot. Try orange peel reflector or replace the XHP50 to XHP50.2

The ring is so obvious for sure. Though my wrong setup or else.
I’ll try OP reflector later, I’m sure I have one from long time ago.
