Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

Where is a link to these protected orbtronics?

I saw them with a Google search.

Ok, if it’s the one listed on their site, then I’ll have to get some of those.

They are in Tampa, FLA. area, sal was still able to ship them to me yesterday despite all the power outages.

Let us know how the Orbtronics perform and if they fit in the L6 without have to backout the battery tube from the head a little bit.

Orbtronic usually ships really fast. Like order on Friday, here (NC) on Monday fast. Faster than Amazon Prime. :+1:

CPF coupon code will save you $2.60- C11P66F

Will do,the batteries are due on Monday and the L6vn could be arriving the same day. In any event I will have both early next week.

Sal informed me that they fit in the L6.I put my trust in him!

The batteries are 68.8m with a max length of 70mm for the L6…….I believe the girth[width] should also be fine.

I have those in my stock L6. Nothing special required to run them. All parts screwed fully together and they work great.

Welcome to BLF. Thanks for the confirmation.

Put a cherry-picked XHP70.2 80cri 2-step 3000k emitter in my L6, but the hotspot is still greenish compared to the spill, which I would say is magenta-ish. I have not scratched off the phosphor at the edges of the emitter though.

Now I’m thinking getting that lower binned easywhite emitter wasn’t worth the cut in lumens and lux if I could perhaps get a cherry-picked 4000k one with higher flux bin but still decent tint to it.

De-Doming it and removing all excess phorphor will probably help, but you will get a higher cct with these new LEDs.

I agree. That is what my predecessors taught me.

I have to talk to Vinh because this does not make sense to me.

He APPROVED these batteries for these lights. I have been using them for 9 months in the K40vn and 6 months in the others.

TK61vn V4- VTC6
TN42vn-30Q
TK75vn KT-30Q.
K40vn-30Q

I am going to ask WHY I can not use High drains/IMR in the L6vn when they are perfectly fine in the aforementioned lights and many others?

I think it’s because he said unprotected cells don’t yield greater performance with however he configured the driver.

He’s also not a fan of batteries in a series.

Liability. Playing it safe against the uninformed masses?

He answered one of my questions[b/4 I bought the light] but I did not ask him why…not yet anyway.

4. Is any 26650 sufficient? How about an Efest ,Vape power or I Joy? Protected 26650 only

The light is arriving tomorrow and the Orbtronic 26650 on Monday! I am very tempted to use my Vappowers tomorrow night!

would a battery like this work for l6 ? or does flat not work at all? so confusing this all :frowning:

and can u even use 18650 for l6 ?

Think of how the batteries fit in the tube. 2 batteries, end to end with the positive of one touching the negative of the other. They have to touch to get electricity to flow. If the positive post is not high enough, they can not touch.

So if you use flat tops that don’t touch, like me with the blue Liitokala cells, you need to add solder blobs to raise the positive posts. Or some people use a tiny neodymium magnet between the cells to get a connection. (Magnets can cause extra resistance and maybe a short circuit under certain circumstances, so they are not a good idea).

Other choices are button top batteries or “raised flat top” batteries.

You can use 18650’s with a spacer tube to keep them centered, but you get less run time and maybe less output, depending on which 18650 cells you use.

Here is the rest of Vinhs answers. I do NOT like to paraphrase. I like providing original info.

PLEASE keep in mind this applies for the L6vn ONLY , NOT the stock light or what many of you modders on here may build.

1.Why can’t I use High Drain/IMR 26650 in the L6vn when you approved the use of VTC6 and 30Q for my K40vn,TK75vn,TK61vn and TN42vn??

70.2 cant handle the high draw from direct driven.

2.Could using them in a series be the reason for alarm? No

3.Would it hurt the L6vn to use an IMR 26650 for a half hour? Yes

For the First time in my 5 year hobby I am getting the light b/4 the batteries! :person_facepalming:

I am going to listen to Vinh. I do NOT know enough about the electrical aspects of the Torch and the batteries to dispute him or others who may have a different opinion.

I am keeping it simple, meanwhile I will be tortured for 2 more days until the Orbtronic get here!

I tried Efest 20700’s in my L6 on the 70.2 and it pulled 19.38A at the tail. Seems the 70.2 is pretty tough, but I don’t know how close I may be to frying it. So I keep the LiitoKala’s in it as they run a couple amps lower. Still does 9100 lumens though.
