Poll: Should We Do Away With Anonymous Rude Marks?

My most recent “RUDE” post…

Pretty sure that was a praise, but oh well

/\…. Amazing… :person_facepalming: … :frowning: …./\

Oh, I actually know the story behind that one… it wasn’t me, but someone ranted to me about it.

Some people find it rude to complain about prices higher than Chinese price levels. I think they were probably over-reacting, but I guess it was a thing which had been bugging them for quite a while. In western countries, it’s completely impossible to compete with Chinese pricing, and the “budget” expectation tends to put off western folks who make lights at western prices.

I must admit I do that a bit too. I’ve been spoiled by all the cheap-but-good stuff we get manufactured in places where it’s inexpensive to do so. Several BLF projects produced lights which cost less at retail price than the cost of building a similar light from parts, and after a while I get accustomed to getting everything for such good prices. It starts to feel normal and the western pricing starts to feel like a rip-off. But really, western pricing is generally fair while Chinese pricing is practically a steal.

I have had work done by VoB, paid a pretty penny to have a rare-ish color 2d mag chopped, re threaded, and possibly bored out (cant remember) to fit a 26650, and make a heatsink/pill to fit it. Praised his work on several ocassions. Pretty sure that was over $100.

Was hoping that light would have been sub $100 when I first saw him post about it, and in my current situation I can not justify it at the price he needs.

Either way, the rude mark dont effect me in the long run. Just dont see how that ended up getting marked for it, unless it was a user that may or may not have something else against me…

Edit: especially an older post such as that

+1

And that rude mark is gone already…

Edit: I understand sometimes people may overreact or get upset over “little” things. I have a tendency to do it lately myself. But a PM or mention in the thread “Hey, that is kind of rude” may get an explanation OR I may agree and delete said post.
I found lately that little things dealing with over seas dealers here have been getting to me and I overreact myself. I tend to get p!$$y and rant. Probably larger things IRL venting out… My last rude mark was one, and I woke up, went and deleted it.
Improper description on my OL A01s was another… stupid NMM got to me, and contact them and their response is “it turns on in next mode everytime, so no problem no memory” p!$$3d me off, and probably overreacted a little.
We are all human, and sometimes people say stupid stuff, or sometimes its just taken out of context. Sometimes it is obvious that someone is being rude, and that is what the “RUDE” button is made for, IMO…
I just feel stupid little things like this, said offended person should just speak up, let said person know why you felt that way and maybe explain it. Many cultures here, and things can be taken out of context very easy.

But, like I said, in the long run that rude mark does not effect me… just irks me a little to see it for something that was a praise

I currently have 5 rude marks in my meter. Have no idea where they came from and I could really care less. But if I have offended someone, they should call me out in a thread or pm. I know someone was really pissed at me last week and called me a fascist prick. I think he is still marking me rude. Let people have their little rude button, if it makes someone feel better when they don’t have the nuts to call the person out, they can get the last word so to say with the rude button.
On the other hand why not have a “Like” button for folks to give good marks for something they like. Currently people insert a thumbs up emoji. This may have been suggested before, I didn’t read every post in the thread, so….

You can find out which posts were marked by checking this link:

It may require some guesswork to figure out why posts were flagged, but at least it shows which posts they were.

/\…. :+1: ………/\

Yep… and sometimes guesswork does not even work. :person_facepalming:

I don’t presume to “run the place”
If SB wants a “Rude Points ” system, I’ll go with it.
The man does all the technical work to keep the sight going, and apparently
some policing as well.
Me Think Thou Doth Protest Too Much

I’d say both are what market allows them to be.
Western companies can get away with way higher prices (and way higher costs) because western buyers trust them more. They sell fewer lights, but with higher price (and margins). In China competition is much fiercer and so margins are lower.
But this is not a steal, Chinese pricing still enables the sellers and the manufacturers to make profits.

Hi everyone, I recognize that there are occasionally problems with misuse of the Rude! button, but such cases are the exceptions rather than the rule. At the moment, the amount of all BLF users that currently have rudeness points is 4. Of them, SubSailorVet is one, as he mentioned here, and his is indeed a case of abuse where another user is mad at him and is misusing the button on him. That user can be easily identified and will be dealt with accordingly by me. As for the other three users that have rudeness points, one of them just has 1 point for a post they made in this thread that was not at all rude, so I’m willing to chalk that up to a joke or somebody trying to prove their point that it hurts when you get a Rude! hit. (Please don’t do that.) The other two users that currently have a rudeness score made posts that were clearly and indisputably rude. So there is no wide-scale abuse of the button, and the system is of great use to me when moderating in order to determine whether posts that I believe to be rude are also perceived as such by other users.

There was also an interesting use of the Rude! button just the other day when a vendor accidentally posted a screenshot with customers’ personal information, probably while I was offline and unable to respond quickly. But that post was quickly and gracefully removed by other users that hit the Rude! button on it, which was definitely the appropriate action.

I think it's rude to belittle other BLF members like this.

I think its rude for any of us to post in a thread about rude people wanting to take away a rude button, and rude people using the rude button

Speaking of rude, what happened to the please dont quote quote thread?

Mr. Admin closed the thread and made it so that only the OP was visible.

Saw that… It was marked with 4 new posts that I could not see when I noticed. Was wondering if one of them 4 posts was the culprit, or the general nonsense that led up to the last 4 posts lol

I got a good laff just now. Apparently this was flagged as “rude”.

Anyone got a clue why?

I'm thinking it's the s-word.

Maybe, but I wasn’t the one saying it. I get hit for quoting someone else?

Where I come from, it’s taboo, verboten, a Big No-No, to edit someone else’s quote, even to “clean it up”.

It would be like quoting you and adding “I hate babies” at the end. It’s Just Not Done.

Yep.

Swearing is not allowed on BLF.

It's done on BLF with regularity.

When I quote someone that swears, I make sure to edit out the swear.

I get enough rude marks as it is.
