Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

correct. what u need to do is go past the first strobe to the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Then you can long press and go backwards to the others.

Got my Q8 today, and apparently there’s another hidden feature, at least according to Banggood:

spark it up! I’m sure you’re no stranger, “Herb”…

My Q8 arrived today! A comparison shot with a can and a Meteor:

Thanks to both of you.

Honestly, I am not impressed by whatever company added these extra tops. It has a flimsy piece of metal between the battery and button top.

I guess it works okay, but is probably why Tom E’s test showed the solder top versions out performing the button top. I may just remove the button tops and add some solder blobs.

EDIT 2: 9/20/17
It appears after playing some more, that my switch just MAY work like it’s supposed to in regards to disabling the switch LED when the light is off (after reading TomE’s suggestion of how to hit it). It does appear you don’t have as long to click the switch a second time when the light is in the lower voltage outputs…and that timing is a little more finicky…for me at least…than when the light is in brighter modes. SO….mine may NOT be an issue…JUST FYI. ALSO, I just left the switch LED on for the past 3 hours or so and after coming back to the light, it did NOT appear to be flickering or anything.

POSSIBLE ISSUE
(wondering if others with LED beacon issues might have the same problem and just didn’t go as far as I did in “playing” with it…doubtful…but wondering)

Got my Q8 yesterday. Gonna state the issue first…then brag on the light.
Beacon LED function - I’ve tested this dozens of times and this seems to be the behavior mine exhibits. The beacon comes on after turning off the light regularly and dependably (the best I can tell). The erratic behavior comes when I want to turn off/disable the beacon. I noticed sometimes I can get it to go off and sometimes I can’t (with the switch click right after turning on). I have narrowed it down to this: I can get the LED beacon to disable IF and ONLY IF the light was turned off at about 1/3 to 1/2 FULL level or brighter. If I turn the light off in any mode lower than that, the LED beacon will NOT turn off. If the beacon won’t turn off, all I have to do is turn the light back on, turn the brightness up to at least 1/3 to 1/2 FULL brightness (I’m eyeballing, no meters to gauge)turn it off, then do the quick on and off method, and BAM……the beacon disables….EVERY TIME. No matter what brightness below that level I try to turn it off at, it will NOT let me disable the beacon….until I raise the brightness first.

Let me know if more info will be helpful. I tried to describe it as clearly as I could…but I’m sure it came across jumbled.

Other than that…perfect operation, thing is a TANK, love the feel and was very pleasantly surprised how “small” it is…I was expecting bigger.

THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED!!! Been watching this since almost inception…never thought I’d have the patience to wait for it. My first SRK style light…and probably my last…as it’ll be hard to top!

Try this for dependable disabling of the LED: Ramp down to moon mode and turn off immediately.

Wait am I missing something here? What is Beacon LED function exactly? What LED, main or switch? What beacon function exactly?

Beacon led as in the switch indicator. The side switch has a beacon function, correct?

That is what miller is calling the Switch LEDs in the OP on Real Issues Found.

Sorry. The LED in the switch. When you turn the light off with one click, the green LED stays lit (guess that’s technically not a beacon….told y’all I probably said it wrong)…assuming to help locate the light in the dark.

To disable, supposed to turn light back on and then immediately back off again, but not fast enough to register a “double click” for turbo.

Q8 came in the mail today! I have put batteries in it and have been giggling like a little school girl! I am saddened to report, however, that my switch led has begun to show the dreaded erratic behavior. It worked fine for a bit, but now it flickers and I have not been able remedy the problem. I have reset the UI a couple of times, changed batteries, all to no avail. Will dig into the light tomorrow and see if I can figure out whats going on.

Both packaging & light arrived in good order.
Light is clean & pristine eternally.
Slight oily residue w/ miroscopic Al dust deep in battery tube. Nothing to be concerned about but I did wipe it out.
Remainder of light clean internally.
Fit & Finish is excellent, both internally & externally.
Nice threads… very smooth.
Tailcap O-ring needed a bit of grease.
Firm double springs.
Driver screws snug & secure.
Reflector looks good, lens is clean.
LED’s appear well centered.
Q8 lights up & appears to be functioning properly after about 3 hours indoor run time at varying power levels.
Lighted switch seems to be working properly at this point.
Timed stepdown was at about 178 seconds.
Temp was about 55 C at stepdown (measured by IR temp gun)
Beam is nice & smooth. Nice tint.
All LED’s appear to be same brightness.
4 x 30Q buttontop 18650 batteries used.

My impression…… Very nice & well done light.

A big thank you to the Q8 team, M4DM4X**, TF, BG, & anyone else who had a part in making this light possible.
Well done!!!

In addition… Tracking was 100% accurate & worked flawlessly. It is highly recommended if you want to know where your package is after it shows shipped on the Banggood site. Do not be concerned if you package just ‘sits’ somewhere for a day or three…… that is just part of it. Nothing to worry about… it will get to you.
If you do not care where your package is…. please ignore the previous statements about Tracking.

Q8 #2 & Q8 #3 are scheduled for delivery tomorrow…. 9-20-2017
See ya’ then.

I think that about covers it.
Carry on………

NOTE / Just noticed, 1 switch LED is much brighter than other.

Ohh, ok. Understand much better now. Sorry, I call that the "Locator LED" feature, but I call the swithch LED an Indicator LED.

So, the "Indicator LED" can function as a Locator LED, but has other functionality as well. Why I call it an "Indicator LED" and not a "Switch LED", is because of other lights, not the Q8, than can have the Indicator LED in a different position, not behind the switch cover. Ok - for the Q8 here, I really should have called it the "Switch LED" -- would have been easier to explain and understand...

Anyways, why you can can reproduce it so easily at 1/3 brightness or higher, is because the Indicator LED is blinking 2 times on high amps, and only blinks once at low amps, so, it's easier to catch it while it blinks.

A better way to get it consistently go off is as follows:

  • from OFF, press&hold the switch til the main LED goes on (very low) and/or the switch LED, then release the switch and click it immediately. Works every time for me, unless I'm too slow..

Now I'm turning 60 soon, but still have fairly quick hands, so maybe that's why it's easy to me (pitched a lot of slow pitch against steroid injecting gym rats, and if you have slow hands, you will be D-E-A-D, dead!). I was just darn lucky on my team I had a few of those roid raging gym rats too and they would defend me if those crazies started hitting their rockets up the middle... "But it's just a game", yea, right. Ohh - my daughter played Big East Div1 soccer as a goalkeeper. Guess what made her so good at stopping goals? Quick hands, of course!

Entertaining read! But if you’ll allow me to try to boil it down, are you saying you have to hit the switch while it’s blinking to get it to disable locator?

Edited to shorten

I also received mine today. Everything looks and works great. The knurling is my favourite feature and that reflector is top notch.

I want to say great job to everyone involved! I'm very happy with how this turned out.

I stuffed in some very well used Panasonic 2900mAh laptop pulls that were all around 4.05volts and stuck it in the BLF legendary integrating sphere with the TA ND filter mod and got 4704 4744 lumens... Excellent!

Srs2000’s bong for your buck cracked me up.

Glad to hear that people around here are getting their lights. Mine should be here Friday.

Yes - that was simple

It's actually a bug that could be interpreted as a feature, least that's what we call bugs anyway. Bugs is a 4 letter word and feature sounds so much better.

I lol’d too
