Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Switch leds measure 2.246v each with batteries at 4.008v. In case it matters.

It’s been many years since I did this, but I have had luck in the past using two irons - one in each hand, with the tips on each pad. Use the tips of the irons like tweezers or pliers by pushing them each towards the other and lift the part off the board.

I’ve been playing with the UI and have a question since you asked JasonWW.

I am back in ramping mode, and have configured Moon mode for the lowest level.
Click and hold starts the light from a low and ramps up - as expected.
Ramping it back down, I get a switch blink at a fairly low level. - as expected.
I can select a level, turn the light off and with a single click I get the remembered mode. - as expected.
However - from off, with a medium click - I get this crazy dim moonlight level (I like it - it just does not seem to be in the cheat sheet or the doc on post 2.) This seems to be the only way to get into this level. I can’t ramp to it at all.
My eyes are a little whacked right now - mostly from the Q8, but also staring at a monitor. So I’m going to go sit in a very dark room for a while and see what this level looks like.
I’m just wondering if this is a know feature or an easter egg?

Just want to pass it along that ThorFire is sorry for the delay, and they think they can work out the SW LED issue quickly. Don't know, or am sure, of all the details, but sounds like they will go with a 2 resistor design, and go back to the LED's they used on the prototypes. They are also looking at some of the screw issues - no promises there though.

I was actually about to comment on that Lazy-R-us. So what is happening is that via ramping down the lowest level is ALWAYS the “default” level. The only way to get to the user specified level 1-7 is to hold from off and it turns on in that mode, then you let go immediately. Also something that bugged me… I set the moonlight level to 7 because I dislike moonlight and always ramp up for a moment before using my lights, but if you long press to get my default value of 7, then keep holding in, the ramping dips back down to the default of 3 before ramping up. Essentially ramping doesn’t reference the user specified moonlight level as where to start ramping and always starts at 3.

The screw issues barely bother me, but I’m glad Thorfire is working expediently to get things shipping out again. There is light glue on the tail cap spring board but it wasn’t like a loctite, just kind of sticky. It was also between the board and where it contacts the body tube. I cleaned it off on mine, but it wasn’t an issue, just something I noticed while being nosy. All of my screws are in good shape.

I was expecting this light to get hot, but even after 8 minutes of turbo it’s barely breaking a sweat. I really like that, turbo is a practical mode.

Found one list, now saved for prosperity,

No, there shouldn't be a danger of either one burning out. The current is just too tiny for that to happen. The issue is that one or both just won't work (or will work intermittently). The rest of the Q8 should be perfectly functional.

Yep, a little of both. Not sure why I didn't change/fix that before the release - I thought I found this early on and knew bout it. It might have been too late, not sure. So, if you set moon mode, only way to access it is press&hold from OFF. Can't ramp down to it. Not sure where now, but I know I fixed this - might be in the next version, might be in the D4 version maybe, not sure - I know I had ramping work to go down to moon mode at some point..

It kind of got orphaned - can't ramp down to it, can't save it as the "remembered" level, but, if you start ramping from OFF, it's always there first thing, and ramping pauses on moon mode so you can catch it easier.

DOA, dead on arrival.
Sorry, should have quoted but didn’t want to single out any particular member, doesn’t really matter, just having people comparing their 3rd light received not working properly while others have none, though ordered and paid for on the same day just pours salt in the wound.
These codes could have been handed out in an orderly manner and/or limits on purchases made.
If you need the post # it is 13250, again nothing against that member.

TK, I use the beacon on the H17F on the lowest output setting for night stand duty. Only on lights without trits. I love the beacon mode on it!

Replaced the resistor on the faulty switch board with 10K and the LED is working fine at 0.155 mA. I’m thinking that for some combinations of high Vf LED’s and high-side of tolerance resistors it’s just not giving enough voltage to be stable.

I ordered 3 x Q8”s within minutes of the code being released & all 3 in the first 200 orders
1 was to a delivery address in the USA & 2 to my address in the UK.
The USA one arrived yesterday & appears to be fine :+1:
My 2 however have been showing this tracking information for the last 10 days “2017-09-11 03:33
Arrived In Hongkong, Waiting To Fly Away”
I am just wondering (I guess I know the answer) if my 2 will “fly away” to me as they are or is there any chance that Thorfire can/will recall them to fix the lighted switch issue then re-ship them ?
I guess as they are in Hong Kong, according to the tracking information, that they will just continue on to me eventually as they are ?

Just to be clear it was the 2nd light “I” ordered, the 3rd one was a gift to me from someone. That was covered HERE

Nor did I post to brag about receiving Q8’s… I posted because we were asked to.

I have not ordered all I am on the list for ‘yet’. I did order the three I am giving away, .
I have not ordered one for myself yet… as I knew I was being gifted one.
I will however order it before the coupon code expires.

I understand you are upset & I am sorry…. but I had no control over how anything was done or handled. Nor the rest of the things you mention either.

Hopefully things will progress quickly.

This is dedicated to applying some ’mojo’ to your UK order’s that they will “FLY AWAY” to wherever is most benificial to you Sir Ian….
.

Same here. I got the message “Waiting to fly away” a few days after the “shipped” message, far before any light reached its destination and the switch led issue became known. Same message up to now.
I dug further into this and realized the site “dpdgroup.hk” (where 17track and other tracking sites get the information about this carriers tracking) has moved to a “domain parking” service about a week ago. For a while 17track displayed a notice telling their tracking information is only a cached one. This notice is currently not displayed but since “dpdgroup.hk” is still not in order I’m pretty sure the tracking information is still the cached one.

I can’t track my ordered lights anywhere else - neither international nor local - and am curious if they are still on there way to my place - or lost.

If you do it that way you run a big risk of overheating the led and ruining it. If your not going to reuse it, then that technique is fine. You could also probably lay the iron tip along side the led to heat up both pads at the same time.

It’s a known feature. I remember Miller or Tom E talking about it. I left my moonlight level at the stock 3 as it’s fine to me.

I just checked and I can just barely see the difference. I never really noticed before.

Same here … ordered two Q8s after receiving the code within 5 minutes, both are shipped with “DPD Hong Kong”, one of them still has the “Hong Kong airport: Waiting to fly away” message, ONE of them definitely arrived in Germany at the local DPD depot, BUT now this:

Called DPD depot Koblenz and gave them my tracking number to clarify any address problems but they COULD NOT find my tracking number at all and told me that would not be a DPD parcel number. So I know that Q8 is nearby and can´t reach it. Asked BG for advise but no answer yet.

sigh
K.

Okay, I guess that is the first reported non working Q8. I’m sure the Miller will contact you about it.

Then you don’t own a MH20.

Grooves of the tailcap misaligned, flat parts of the tube misaligned.

Cutting the threads and milling the flat parts or grooves are most probably done at two different steps of the manufacturing process. To have head + tube + tailcap aligned you should have to align those parts always exactly the same way before every machining steps. A custom-maker could do so but not mass-producing manufacturers. Not the same cost at the end, well I guess because I’m not a machinist.

Oh yes they have been…
Right back here……… Q8 #1

All good too. :+1:

And yeesssss… we are having fun. Just rolling with the flow.
.

Wow lots of new posts, sorry morning routine is emails first, then PMs and then rest of BLF, of course starting with Q8.

Some reactions
Yes it is unfortunate that the only part not specified and was given as nice bonus is causing issues. Yes with 2000 ready to be made going for a problem free seemed more logical
I would feel like sh#tting on BLF if we would not fo it this way and it is unfortunate people feel sh#tted on by doing what I think is right.
As written, we accepted slow response during the process but not now and we don’t even have to pull for answers, Thorfire is very much on top of it.
There is a shipping date mentioned on the pre order page and it does not look like it will not be met, we thought it would be send out sooner then this came…

Then the list, I have it, while editing it into another post to make the OP easier to read, the tab I had that post open in crashed, I didn’t notice it and had already copied something else in memory. Lucky me, Mr.Scott and SB have backups so I received it from Mr.Scott by mail. Will edit it in later and don’t worry, now have backups of all important topic start posts.

Did I read words describing waiting or dealing with issues as suffering? Come on, half the alphabet worth of hurricanes smashed islands and coastal regions
A Mexican school has a list of kids SURVIVING the collapse of the building , not the deceased, after a 7 minutes earthquake hit a monster city.
That is suffering!

Teacher, you have a DOA, will add you to the OP.
DO NOT OPEN IT, DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT, SEND IT TO TOM, he will send you a good one. I take care of shipping both lights.
Tom will examine it and see what is up with that, he is highly skilled and we know we can trust him for being open about issues.
PM incoming.
