Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Yes, that is how it goes, I think that process is rather fascinating actually.

But isn’t it wonderful that the Q8 now really exists, and that we got it for the agreed 40 dollar a piece!

Well……with my luck, it’ll be $30 !

Ooooh, two things that I forgot to mention: the tint is really nice, 3D is one of the reasons I wanted these and I haven't been disappointed. The other thing is the size, it's smaller than I was expecting which was a really nice bonus, it makes the output from the smaller form all the more impressive.

No problem Phil, all's good!

My light arrived yesterday, but I did not have a chance to play with it until just now. I put in the 30Qs and planned on changing it from ramping to modes. After playing with the ramping for a while, I really liked it! So, I disabled the switch LED and left the ramping on. Build quality on mine is very good. The threads could use a little more lube. Wow, this thing is bright! Thanks to all who made this happen. Great job!

Frank A.

A few times in this thread we’ve mentioned the 1/4” carry loops for cameras, I saw people post the ones of this design a few times.

I don’t quite like that design because it seems like cheap pot metal (zinc alloy?) that might easily break, plus it’s pretty large.

I searched and found these which I ordered before my Q8’s arrived.

The video in the description with them trying to break/bend them with pliers helped me to decide they were strong enough, plus it looks like some kind of stainless steel.

Here’s some full res photos

I have it screwed in tight and as you can see, the loop is not quite straight with the body of the flashlight, but this doesn’t really bother me. I didn’t have to grind/cut the threads at all, the length is perfect.

I also found these which are a similar design and appear even smaller, but I wasn’t sure if they would be as strong considering how they use those tiny pins to hold the loop on.

There are a lot of less than thrilled folks in this thread saw master. For each person chiming in on their third light there are dozens more s o l at the current time. I don’t think anyone thinks less of you because you were upset.

AGREED. It shouldn’t have to be said but after all this time, and now with a halt in production, people are more than a little impatient so it’s expected.

got my Q8 a couple nights ago. put in GAs for the break-in, ran it on turbo trying to empty them
cycling it every so often as it stepped down, not immediately tho, never too hot to hold
I finally gave up as I put my ear to the battery tube and could hear drums and little marching feet
I changed them out today w/30Qs, the GAs were all 3.4xvolts, green lights steady, balanced
the size surprised me also, very compact, chunk’of’kit, not surprised it passed the drop test
the girth is what I want to be when I grow up

In an effort to steer this thread towards the positive, maybe some folks can show beam tint photos. How does the color compare to other well known lights?

Also, can anyone make a short video showing the switch light doing its 1 or 2 blinks while ramping (indicating the 7135 or fet)? It sounds neat so I’d like to see that.

The Q8 is my first Narsil Driver flashlight, The Narsil firmware is really awesome, I love it! Now I am thinking in changing all the drivers in my other lights to Narsil… :open_mouth:

Oh, drat. Please add me to the list of those with failed button illumination. The assymetrical LEDs I previously cited are now (symmetrically!) dark. No stress, but I would like to be included in whatever is the eventually solution.

Thanks!

The Q8 is the first production light made with narsil so you are not alone. Before, you had to swap in a driver with it. See Lexels 4th driver page about fitting your other lights with narsil.

Hah! I think you’d be providing the majority of lights. I don’t have much at the moment. Kind of going through a minimalistic phase in my life, with the exception of fishing tackle. I can’t seem to stop buying rods and reels. :person_facepalming:

My first of two Q8s arrived today. (First one was < 500. Waited to order the second until >1000 so others could get a chance.)

I put in freshly charged 30Q button tops and played with it for a half hour tonight. Really like this flashlight. Good light. Quality finishing. Nice heft. And the ramping is fun. Thing I hadn't expected was the tint. I had a couple other lights for comparison. There was some haze due to the humidity tonight, which was quite noticeable with the other lights, but not noticeable with the Q8.

The LEDs in my switch are asymmetric (mismatched) but I have not yet seen any problems with flickering of the switch LEDs. I'll leave the switch glowing all night and check it tomorrow. As mentioned by others, the threads need to be cleaned and lubricated, but no big deal.

A big THANK YOU to the Q8 team for all the work bringing this light into being and to Thorfire for making this light.

And a HUGE thank you to The Miller for handling all these questions.

I just came in from a long double fisted walk with my two new Q8’s and my Thrunite TN30vn35. The Thrunite is my favorite popcan light. The Q8 has about the same lumen, lux and tint. And at less than 1/4 the cost and and an amazing UI, I have a new favorite. The Thrunite is a great light, but at $40 the Q8 is the best value out there.

Thanks Q8 team, you designed a great light!

Yep ,Miller is awesome at keeping all of us informed and calm in the face of adversity. Usa needs him as liason in between Trump and Kim Jon.
