Iâve been waiting for the Q8 to arrive so I could compare it powered by 4p 30Q with my Chimera (5000k xhp70.2 from rmm and modded srk TA driver from Lexel) powered by 2s4p ncr18650b.
Not only the US but the world as one.
I donât see any pictures here, But the quote shows links. Am I the only one not seeing these pictures?
Edit: Turned off ublock, ghostery and noscript, still no pictures
Problem Loading Page: Secure Connection Failed :weary:
How about now.
You could try removing the s from https which is the secure part which maybe failedâŠ
or
Nope, But post below srs2000 posted you I seeâŠ
Sorry, guess I need to pic diff links, next time.
I can see them fine.
I never had a problem seeing them.
Sorry, guess I need to pic diff links, next time.
No problems here either.
feralcomprehension, oh drat indeed, will go behind PC and update op later.
Nil, great find, ordered, got more of those type of nuts coming in then Q8s ordered
.
.
Of course you are all too kind.
We knew a 100% problem free sutuatiot would be extremely difficult, but it is a lot more then expected, glad people with a real issue keep so nice and help out not only by being friendly it also with pics!
Nice beamshots Etex!
Cool that daylight as comparison.
Thanks shirnask, is it me with my untrainedeyes or do these solderings look not all that good?
There are a lot of less than thrilled folks in this thread saw master. For each person chiming in on their third light there are dozens more s o l at the current time. I donât think anyone thinks less of you because you were upset.
Yes, and I want to thank those who have waited with their second or more ordering till the pre order counter was above 500 to have more people receive one from the first batch!

I just came in from a long double fisted walk with my two new Q8âs and my Thrunite TN30vn35. The Thrunite is my favorite popcan light. The Q8 has about the same lumen, lux and tint. And at less than 1/4 the cost and and an amazing UI, I have a new favorite. The Thrunite is a great light, but at $40 the Q8 is the best value out there.
Thanks Q8 team, you designed a great light!
Oh boy, so not only are weabout to render their TN42 obsolete, their TN30 is set asideâŠ. Dang they must really starting to get annoyed by now

My button tops were in the charger so tried the flat top 30q and it Works hehe. Seems the pressure from the springs is enough to press the plastic down a bit?
You better run the set down, and then measure voltage on each of them, there is a big chance not all are making contact, meaning you could end up with empty and full cells in the same tube, not ideal to say it mildly
Well this morning I posted that my 2 x Q8âs had been sat in Hong Kong for 10 days waiting to âfly awayâ
So I was more than a little surprised that when I got home from work earlier my wife said âthere are 2 packages here for youâ
Lo & behold my 2 x Q8âs must have actually âflown awayâ from Hong Kong several days ago as they were here :+1:
Proof of the unreliableshiiping and tracking info, order and forget really is best.
.
.
2nd one arrived. Works great. (add for future production: same sharp edges 4th fin above both switch and opposite side adapter hole. I mention because I did cut myself yesterday. Probably should bevel the edge. I carved edge with knife and sharpied it. Ergonomics)
Auch, when using a new knife it only feels like a bond is formed when it has drawn a little of my blood (my wife does not understand this but it is how I experience it ) but a flashlight shouldnât draw blood
Anyone has this too? And please check the mentioned area.
And finally, OP updated with:
TWEAK
On some Q8 lights there can be a sandblasting powder residue under the tailpcb and in the screwholes for the tail pcb mounting screws.
On some Q8 lights there can be some sort of glue residue in the screwholes for the tail pcb mounting screws.
No worries it is not conductive, but that does mean there can be bump in output achieved when removing and cleaning it. The screws are very tight, USE A MATCHING SCREWDRIVER AND RUBBER BAND BETWEEN SCREW AND SCREWDRIVER TO AVOID STRIPPING!
Thorfire will clean better during the rest of the production.
CHECK
Added note for QA/QC inspections â check that the bare metal end of the battery tube is polished smooth, no rough spots on the face or edges, because that surface has to make contact with the trace around the edge of the driver board.
Question: is the lubricant being applied to the threads electrically conductive?
Answer. yes some lube is very likely required, please add your favorite flavor. Good point about tube, please use file and/or sandpaper to smoothen things out if too rough for your liking.
Shone my 2 x Q8âs around my garden for half an hour last night whilst ramping them up & down then left them overnight with the side switches illuminated.
No problems with the side switch leds so far & boy is the tint from the main leds nice.
I have a genuine Ultra Fire SRK, 4 led configuration & genuine measured a little over 3000 lumens on start up.
This UF cost nearly $40 dollars (it is the one with the battery power display & built in USB charging, this one Flashlight, Batteries, Tactical Gears - UltraFire Official Store & cost me $38 when I purchased it ) & the Q8âs literally blow it out of the water in terms of power, beam tint/pattern, UI & build quality for only a couple of dollars more :+1:
The Q8âS next to my 2 UFâs
The Q8âS next to my 2 UFâs Wink
Err - matched pairs, youâre not by any chance trying to breed them are you?
If so, can I put my name down for first choice from the BLF litter?
When I bought the one UF, end of last year I think, they were considered probably the best budget SRK style light available at the time (not counting Richards modded ones).
I then received another as a gift
The idea was to give me an SRK style light, as I didnât already have one, to play around with untill the Q8 appeared & my intention was to mod one.
However I never got round to modding it & now that I have the 2 x Q8âs donât see the point
Maybe I can breed them as I do still quite like the UFâs although they will now probably become âbeaterâ lights since I have the Q8âs.
Maybe a sort of âFrankenâ SRK hybrid can be bred from them, a Q8UF or UFQ8 .
I will put them together tonight with soft lights, soft music & a glass of wine & see if anything comes of it
You can have pick of the litter :+1:
I got my Q8s today
a few minor things that I have to criticize
1. driver screws should be flat head like laptop screws or the holes in the driver need to be countersunk same as the screws are
2. driver holes need to be drilled out for 3mm screws, I used 3.2mm drill
3. the threads of the driver and tail board were not clean, so I cut em again and a lot dirt came out, now the scres screw in with no resistance
4. Plese give your employees at Torfire the right screwdriver sizes and teach em not to ruin the screw heads
- one of my sample had exemplary screws without physical damage
- the other had the screw heads damaged, even the big one holding the reflector
5. the brass ring on both my samples were dirty with some black stuff, I cleaned em with steel wool now they are shiny
4. when the reflector is tightened on the MCPCB please check if the LEDs are centered or if its twisted a bit
- one came here with almost perfectly centered LEDs the other was twisted clockwise, but easily fixable
- not sure why the centering rings are bigger tan the LEDs there is some play
