Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

One minor thing I noticed is dirt on top of the domes

it would be nice to see Thorfire to inspect and clean the LEDs before the reflector gets assemled

picture from the dirt on the bras ring
left out of the box, right the other light cleaned with steel whool

Got two Q8 today. Really nice toys, thanks a lot to the team!

But - Thorfire should definitely improve packaging for the next batch. I got the lights in a thin bag, the cardboard box only wrapped with a foam sheet. The two small sides of the box were free of protection. Box and tailcap of one light have a big dent, the bag probably fell down on a solid edge during transport. The tailcap is also somewhat bent, you notice it when screwing.
And threads need more lube - there was an awful squeaking when screwing battery tube and tailcap on both lights.

The lube on mine was pretty much nonexistent.

Mine have been mixed - some dry, some well lubed threads - clearly an attempt was made on both ends of the battery tube, but if you wipe/clean it off, it's pretty dirty...

Also noticed some minor small nicks/bare alum showing on the square threading. Not sure if even a good HAII will hold up under all that contact. HAIII is way better for square threads.

SRK clones with pointy threads are impossible to keep anodized though - got a few and all shoe bare spots to some extent, many make electrical contact.

Well I was not sure either but there was something glimmering in the threads so I thought there might have been a few molecules of lube.

I noticed the title of the thread now says “production halted…”. For those of us that are sitting on the fence because of some of the minor issues raised, should we place our order now if these issues don’t concern us too much. I am just mindful the coupon deadline is less than a week away? Thanks.

I already bought a pack of 4 30Q from banggood too, which was already shipped a couple of days ago. Mind you, there is no guarantee I will receive them due to _)*_)#( Australian customs!

TWODOLLARBILL would you mind letting us know if you indeed get a actual tracking movement on the Q8 that you purchased on September 15th from Ali Express? That would be very helpful.
Thanks

My Q8 has arrived to my country. May get it Monday or Tuesday depending the customs processing.

TR, Arrived at processing centre (inward office of exchange)

I can confirm this
all the screws fit perfectly to my JK-CRV +3.0 screwdriver

Here is the latest update I have in the order details section:
2017.09.19 03:42 (GMT-7): 【GuangDongShengShenZhenShi SHENZHEN 】Despatch from Sorting Center

I’ll update if a new posting appears.

So Thorfire bought a bunch of Japanese screws and are tightening them with American screwdrivers?

Looking at the pics earlier of the Q8 driver, they seem like Philips head to me. My eyes are probably wrong, though.

The Miller, the above is making it clear that his shipping info, if fake, is very elaborate don’t you think? I have never heard of a bogus tracking number showing actual movement. :weary:

Considering all the great reports regarding the first batch (and ignoring what i consider very minor issues) i just placed the order for my second Q8 (#1645) - along with a few BT 30Qs of course.

The SRK style soda can light is back… with a vengeance! :smiling_imp:
Amazing work and result by all involved in this project. Thanks a lot!

My first is still back order… while some already have more then two to play with.
Hopefully the second batch will include a few improvements.

I received my Q8 yesterday. It is excellent. Thanks to all the folks who made this project happen.

Oh, I’ve got that UF - I assumed the Q8 would be the same size. That’s a nice surprise (for me) that it will be that much smaller!

How did you do the colored bezels on the UF’s?

So you’re saying that I was probably right when I said that the screw threads on the right (production) looked damaged?

Plenty of people told me I was wrong - nevermind the fact that part of my job is to examine damaged fasteners just like that…

I’ll repost it just to be childish. :stuck_out_tongue:

Got mine today. Its awesome! Immediately one of my favorite lights. This is my first “SRK” of any sort, although I do have other soda-can lights, but I really like this style. Its slightly larger than something like the Meteor but I love the reflectors, so its well worth the size trade-off. Honestly at 40 bucks I almost feel like someone gave me this thing. Its a lot of light for the money!

No issues other than those that are already known. Like most everyone else, my switch LEDs are out of balance, brighter on one side:

And like someone else reported, my tailspring board screws were coated with some sort of threadlocker. In fact mine had so much I had to apply heat to one screw to get it out without rounding off the head. I cleaned it off of course but to my eye it didn’t make much difference. A meter might tell a different tale, but if I can’t tell it in use then does it really matter? Not to me.

My brass positive contact was also pretty dirty, but honestly I just think that proves they tested it first

Soldering on the driver looks good. Mine was covered in some dust too, like someone else reported, because the screws used to hold the driver in are too large for the hole, so they have to cut their way through. Doesn’t seem to hurt anything though:

But my threads are awesome, very smooth and well lubed. In fact all my ano seems to be great, no issues there:

And my emitters are very very close to centered, close enough to not matter, with no sign of dirt or fingerprints on the reflector or lens:

Oh, and about those unbalanced switch LEDs? Well someone said blue/pink a few days ago and I thought that sounded like a good idea, so I took it for my own  My camera basically refuses to photo this pink properly, its much more saturated in person, but hopefully you get the idea. This is great!

I’ve got nothing at all to complain about here. Performance is great, the UI is fantastic (but I already knew that, not my first Narsil light), build quality seems top-shelf. All-in-all this light is nothing but a home run. Thanks so much to all who worked to make this happen.

Unisex lighting - sounds ol' school nowadays... You guys convinced me though - gotta try it. I got blues, pinks, yellows, whites, oranges, reds, UV/purple, but no combos.

Janky driver screw

Album of screws/grim
All the screws were grimey, non of them were stripped out. Used slight downward pressure while unscrewing, They were not tight or difficult to get out, could have been tighter. I reinstalled them tighter then they were with out stripping the screws.

A little glue/grime what ever on the PCB mounting location. Wiped off easily with some orange cleaner.

The screwdriver bit I used fit snug, no play. No size/type markings on the bit I used.

I would have liked to gone further to see if the driver area needed cleaning up, But couldn’t get the button ring/cover off :expressionless:

Receipt update:

2 ordered, 2 arrived, no damage.
My body threads didn’t line up with head either. Not an issue for me.
Button lights equally bright. Very green.
Both lights functioned well. Easy to use.
Much brighter than expected. !!! Uniformly bright/same tint.
Nice beam pattern for style of light. Compared to my other soda can lights.

Outstanding value and THANK YOU to all involved in production, testing and designing.

Not being dismissive of other’s issues, just informing on my experience.
