Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Yea, it’s a deep hole in center, lighting does make it difficult to tell, though.

In fact the similarity between OTSM and eswitch is exactly what led me to add experimental e-switch support to bistro-HD. It uses the exact same code, with just a little more logic for different sequences. It mght be that I got either lucky or more clever than I remember and I blocked against these cases in software in some ways I forgot(I did think about it some) or never realized. If so I did it very succinctly. Or it may be it's the hardware.

My friend gds95 received his and he has 2 different brightness indicator LEDs and he was upset I even pointed it out, but he knows to look out for the indicator acting funky so it can be reported if it becomes an issue.

Exactly. It doesn’t need debounce logic because the signal doesn’t bounce. It does all that at a hardware level before the MCU firmware sees anything.

Older driver designs bounced, but that was fixed long before anyone here tried OTSM… and it wasn’t related to the switch; it bounced because of ringing from PWM on the FET.

October first is Chinese National day followed by Golden Week Holiday. This means almost all of China is not working September 30th till October 8th due to travels and having a holiday.
Thorfire aims at sending out the Q8 before that, but to be on the safe side it is better to expect shipping at the latest inline with what the Banggood listing said from the beginning October 10th.
Of course we will announce it when shipping is about to commence.

I think lower current through the switch leds will solve the problem. Guess they blew up from overheating (no big news I guess)
Can’t they just swap the resistors and leave the leds the same?

Some people have gone to a higher current and got non working leds to work again. Swapping the 15k resistor with a 10k.

There is still something wonky about the pcb, though. Something is making the leds be different brightnesses even when the leds are swapped for a matched set.

Then there are the rare switch issues when turning off the light which might be related to the switch. We don’t know yet.

So I think TF is smart to just swap to a different switch assembly pcb. It might fix several things at once.

omg, I thought they just blew up. Cheap leads usually twinkle before dying.

Is there a video showing the switch leds in work?

Not yet. I asked yesterday if someone could do a video, but we’ve not heard anything yet.

Tom E made a video about 10 months ago where you can see a little bit of the switch light working.

It shows the switch turning off when the main light is on. I was wanting to see the little blinks when you ramp to the 7135 or fet.

A question for The Miller, as he is in contact with Thorfire
So Thorfire are sending out the next batch with a different switch assembly fitted to alleviate the problems some have had with lights in the first 500 batch.
What is happening about the first 500 batch ?
Are TF sending out replacement switch assemblies to those members that purchased in the first 500 ?
I bought 3 lights from the first 500, all of which seem to work fine, but some are now reporting that with more use their previously non issue lights have now started to develop switch issues.
My lights have only seen about 30 minutes use max so far & have & are working fine but from what others are reporting it is quite possible that with more use they may also develop switch issues.
Just wondering if TF are going to do something for those of us that bought lights from the first 500 batch ?

Ingredients for my Q8 lanyard:
1.) Screw with ribbon from a smartphone tripod, too long on it’s own,
2.) Rubber washer found in my spare parts box, drilled for a larger diameter,
3.) Spider (not required).

Completed:

Will probably replace the ring, it’s a bit weak.

It is a $40 dollar flashlight, disable the LED if it starts to flicker, it will not affect Q8s functionality. Problem solved!

The problem with that is a certain percentage of people want the switch light to work and expect it to work. They also can’t work on it themselves. So it has to be fixed it under warranty of some type.

Lukily the number of folks that have a problem is very tiny.

I am not going to get into an argument & what you say above is correct Rapidlux, however, everybody who bought the Q8 bought a light that was meant to have a working problem free indicator switch.
Price doesn”t come in to it.
Everybody paid the same $40 so why should people who bought in the first 500 batch have to put up with issues & non functionality that those who didn”t buy in the first 500 don”t have to ?
If every light sold had the same switch & therefore potentially the same problems fair enough but as TF are aware of a problem & have halted production/shipping so as to fit a different switch to the next batches of lights to cure this problem surely something should be done for the first 500.

And when a sold product has a known problem, manifested or potential, all of the product are repaired/ replaced/upgraded not just the ones that are exhibiting the problem.
I am not expecting TF to send me 3 new lights but TBH would expect them to send me 3 new switch assemblies to fit myself so that I have lights that are the same as everyone who didn”t buy in the first 500 batch.

I’ll second that. When my light comes I will be expecting the switch to start causing issues, it will always be on my mind even if it never happens, so a new switch assembly sent to me would be peace of mind, and the establishment of trust, maybe even the trigger for a second Q8 purchase, one to keep stock, one to experiment with and compare.

Issue(s) are being collected
when ALL 500 are in we can tell what the issues are and then how to find a solution for those affected.
I will not go deeper into it now, it is not constructive for theoretical and I do NOT want to debate with hundreds of people what they think is best and should be done, we are on top of things and this should suffice so please do not force me to put time into explaining why we want to know all the issues before getting to a solution, sure a lot will say it is not the proper way to go, fine cool, keep it to yourself or PM me if you feel like this AND have reported an issue!

Oh talking about time, I have prepared an answer so people who think it is cool to email Thorfire and/or Banggood receive a nice reply pointing them to me. You could just have respect for the clear text in the OP stating we are the ones to ask things to and the info is in the topic (important for all means topic title change with date now), Wasting time (person A forwarding mail to person B, person B forwarding to me, me reply to B, B forward to A) of all involved and people not involved seems like a sign of utter disrespect for others only to fill the need of a personal reaction with the same information that has been posted here.
Time is the only universal currency, but alas nobody gets change.

Issues with switch leds not working all seem to pop up within a day or two. Please report on it.
Issues with not turning off are too vague to be put in the OP now. Please report on it further, I will start clicking away on my proto to see if I can find some patern.

And come on, if you don’t have an issue do not ask what the solution is IF your light maybe gets an issue, let’s keep posting about issues to people HAVING them shall we?

Fairly easy, HAVE an issue, please report the greater the detail the better.
When WE HAVE news we post, when we have questions about issues we post
If you DON’T have an issue, cool, just leave posting about both issue and solution to others
Thanks

Can I get 2X Please ?

I am somewhat amused reading the recent posts.
Some people who wanted multiple lights only ordered one from the first 500 to give others a chance at getting one. (Thank you to those people)
Some who wanted only one light waited to make sure there were no issues with the first batch… smart
Then there are people that ordered multiple lights all at once…
Now some people that ordered all their lights all at once are getting upset about a fix / solution that has not even been announced yet.
I’m sure there will be a solution for everyone but people getting worked up about their multiple lights that are currently working that might fail being different to the ones others will receive in the future is kind of annoying.
The team and manufacturer is surely doing all they can.
This project has been going on for a long time, it’s not finished yet.
How about those people that are holding their lights now sit back patiently and wait for a solution, just as those of us who do not have lights have to do.

* On Edit*

I see The Miller posted as I was,

That’s what I meant to say…
