wondering if the radio controlled helicopter batteries are Li-ion or Li-Po? Haven’t seen one with Li-ion to my knowledge…

While it may work to charge at 5C, it may also be greatly reducing the life of the cells. Most of our high discharge Li-ion’s have a 300 cycle life estimation, where Li-Po is usually 1,000. Charging at such a high rate would effectively cut life expectancy in half or even worse. Recommended charge rates for typical Li-ion is 0.6C, with the newer chemistry being able to take up to 2C. Lot of variables at play, of course.

Hobby RC packs are the pouch LiPOs, not cylindrical.
LiPOs also have only a few hundred cycles of lifespan, not anywhere near 1000 (except for the turnigy graphene ones which someone tested to have over 1k cycles, which exceed pretty much every other lipo on the market)

Dale: All RC helicopters, drones, cars nowadays use Li-Po batteries.

That’s what I though Zozz, and those can take a 5C charge that will destroy most Li-ions.

Edit: I know we have a large audience, so let me be clear on this. A 1C charge rate would be equal to the cells’ capacity, say a 2500mAh cell would be charged at 2.5A if charging at 1C. So, a 3400mAh cell at 5C would be taking a massive 17A charge rate! This is a definite matter of concern! In other words… NO! Don’t do this! A 0.6C rate is recommended for the longest life of the cells, so a 3400mAh cell should be charged at 2A for best life expectancy. (2500mAh at 1.5A max)

I know this has been talked about before in previous posts but can’t seem to find it. I need to buy batteries for the GT. What are the best ones to buy and where can I find them. Thank you in advance for the help.

Any cell will do, not a lot of amps drawn, so high capacity is easier, allows longer runtimes

Yes, will update list later.
Check the TA Giggles review for closest to what is must become.

Thanks!!!

Here one is for those less willing to use a google search… I present you with Giggles, the most hardcore BLF thrower in the World.

I hope TA hasn’t gotten fed up with us here. I noticed he hasn’t posted in this thread since all the battery hoohaa. He has more flashlight Electronics knowledge in the tip of his pinky finger than I do in my entire body. Without people like him and the other team members here, I would have absolutely no hope of enjoying a work of art like the Gigga Thrower. The more information I read about other expensive long range thrower flashlights and compare it to what the GT is capable of, the more excited I get. The nice led tint is just icing on an already delicious cake. Sorry, it’s lunch time here and food references keep popping into my head! :sunglasses:

Hmmmmm…… Your right, TA has been absent it seems. I hope everything is OK with him.
I miss his thought provoking & knowledgeable posts. I too have learned much from them.Hopefully he will show up again soon…. real soon.

He told me he was pretty busy IRL and not on BLF much.
He’ll come back when he has time for it

will this light be in my hand before the first snow storm ?
its 91 degrees here today :person_facepalming:

These kind of topics with a lot of people saying things are kind of hard to follow sometimes for me, and I don’t do technical stuff
So that is why you see “general communication” after my name I keep track of this.
Behind the scene a lot is going on.
But at times people doing a lot of technical work are only visible in email and PM.

The new carrier needs a driver adaptation so a lot of talk and designing going on here. Leaving less time to post.
(Check for example Fritz seemingly silent in the FW3A but that is because he is doing a lot not so visible to all now.)

Not just for you TM. I have to glance up to see what thread I’m on and we have it easy. You have it much worse since you’re a mover and shaker on multiple threads.

Thank you for the info Enderman… good to know he is OK.

Check out the new sig :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers David

Hahaha nice one pommie

If you ever get bored, I’ll bare the burden of taking that proto off your hands for a week or so. :innocent:

You are quite welcome to try and pry it from my wife’s grubby little hands, I tried and failed

Cheers David

We need moar pictures!!!

Very nice pommie, very nice indeed!!! . :+1: …
