Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Mine has shipped!!!

Depends on what the quality of the fixes is. If you will indeed find new better quality screws, no goop in the screw holes and a newly designed switchboard inside, I agree that they did a very fast job!

There has been so much anticipation with this project, and so much discussion over the switch and screws issue, that I would happily throw a couple of bucks in for a “service pack” that has a full set of good quality screws, a version 2 switchboard, and maybe a couple of O-rings for good measure.

I like to have things that I know I can trust to carry on working properly, so the switch issue (although minor), will be a niggle to my mind until resolved. I very much want the lighted switch feature. No attacks please, last time I mentioned this someone said I need a psychologist.

Of course lighted switch should work
If you or anybody has an issue with theirs let it know
I think the remark about seeing somebody was because it seemed you wouldn’t be able to enjoy yours if it had working switch LEDs because you know somebody else has an issue with theirs. I don’t think it is the best of advice though
I’d say only get custom made things so you know you have the only one and nobody else can have an issue with theirs since there are no others

Well so far the switch issue only occurred within the first minutes.

I have not read of anyone who had problems after days of usage.

So far there is no reason to doubt a working switch.

I expect there will be switches on sale sometimes in the future. I would expect that anyway since there a 1000+ people buying this light and most won’t want to mess with the small switch led to change the color. I would easily pay a few bucks to get a blue or orange switch, someone will cash in on that opportunity.

Yes, I think that the time that this project has taken did expectations become much higher than what we aimed to make: a quality SRK with good output.
Some people became to want a perfect light that is bomb-proof and can be trusted at all times, but it still is a budget light made by a budget manufacturer in a country far away that has a different attitude towards QC. IMO it has to be considered as a well-made budget light: all joints have to be checked, maybe tweaked a bit, some grease applied etc. After you have seen the light inside and out, if it was a good light in the first place, it can be reliable and bomb-proof, and maybe more so than expensive brand lights that you do not check.

At 7. Sept 02:15 I have 867 for you. Will try to catch 768 next time.

Can someone please make a list of all the issues and fixes for this flashlight? I’m a newbie and would hate for it to fail on me while camping. I’ll probably take it to someone and have them fix it. Thanks.

LOL LOL! I like it.

I wouldn’t mind swapping colours, blue seems good. I don’t mind soldering in new leds and a second resistor on the switchboard if I have a spare, but I won’t try it on my only one in case I damage it, I don’t have the best soldering equipment or skills.

$40 may not be a lot to people earning $, but in South African currency it is significant (at least to me), this is likely to be the most I will ever spend on a light, unless a really good deal comes up on the latest L6, maybe next year.

OTOH, projects like this are a good step toward getting premium brands to take the community seriously.

My second one shipped today.

The one I ordered day before yesterday didn’t

Can I please have a list of all the things that are great about the Q8 too, that can go with the list of issues? To balance things out.

Winspiration, very probably your Q8 just works fine, no fixes are needed and it will keep working on your camping trip. A small minority of people received a Q8 with the switch-indicator-led failing but that would not prevent the light from using it on vacation.

I agree $40 is not cheap. I consider flashlights below $16,- cheap. For what one gets the S70/S70S/L6/Q8 are not expensive either and worth it

All Q8 lights work out of the box stock 100, 0 failure rate

There in the OP, you see the way too long list of people having issue with indicator led not working.

All issues with indicator led showed themselves within a day AND do not affect the light out of the front of the Q8 or jeopardise the safety.
2.6% of first 500 lights affected, but counting, and hoping this will not rise.

Then you can see in the OP there are some issues with screws that only matter to those wanting to bump output, mod it, all except for 2 screws were relatively easy to unscrew. 2 different screws of the 3500 screws (0.57‰ o screws)
4‰ of lights affected

There are a few things worth checking, like the inside of the tube and the top of the tube, if not smooth sandpaper touches it up easy.

So when your Q8 arrives there is no indication it cannot be used on a camping trip

Adding to my initial post:

Flashlight B update:

The switch light has begun to dim on the left side, but is still functioning for now:

!

!

The dimming LED in the switch got me curious and I removed the rubber button. I found even more damage than the gouges on the exterior of the switch housing. The threads are all cut through and I am hoping this does not compromise the water resistance, especially being on the switch. I hate to use DC 111 to block any water since it might make the area greasy, but I may have to just to be safe. Looking more closely, the seal looks to be against the switch’s mount so maybe the grease is not necessary.

!

!

I’ll disable my switch led before I light them up and tell myself that my Q8 is very special while others have lighted switch mine have a glow in the dark rubber switch cover…… :smiling_imp:

I will accept my “special” light & STFU…… :smiling_imp:

Edit : mine shipped today on the way too

Edit again : just a joke for those with switch problem please don’t misunderstood….sorry

(it needs only some cheap hardware and free software, and the Q8 makes it particularly easy since the driver comes out far enough to access the right parts without soldering)

I thought reports of issues were being solicited to help the Q8 crew. My mistake as this seems to be taken as “complaining”. Hope everything goes well with the lights you receive….sorry

Am I the only one who is not able to see the imgur pictures? I get a 404 error.
