I tried to simplify this for my preference and the way that I use my lights.
This is a pretty close estimate from HKJ’s comparator at 7Amps. It is not much different @5Amps.
I compared the VTC5A to the VTC5/VTC6 and the 30Q.This is in regards to voltge sag from the beginning which is most important to me.
VTC5A VS. VTC5- VTC5A has LESS voltage sag until ~3.2V
VTC5A VS. VTC6- VTC5A has LESS voltage sag until ~3.86v
VTC5A VS. 30Q- VTC5A has LESS voltage sag until ~ 3.80v. Then they are EVEN with one test battery until 3.68V.
I think the main reason the other batteries eventually take over is because they all have more capacity. Not positive of this.
Technically, for my preference[changes battery every 15 minutes], where I am NOT concerned about run time, instead obsessed with MAX output I should be using the VTC5A!!! :sunglasses: Got Two yesterday, Only $5.99/each w/ tax,FREE SHIPPING because I am a walk in!
On the other hand, from a visual perspective, there will be NO noticeable difference and I would get more run time with the 30Q.
I think when I go to Liionwholsale, I will flip a coin between the VTC5A and 30Q.A GREAT PLACE 1.5 Miles from my house.
VTC6 definitely degrades faster[see MOOCH chart] from my experience. That would not be one of my choices in the future.
I won’t contradict you on the fact to not overcharge a battery but a Samsung 30Q won’t vent or explode, it will only leak with strong abuse. Be reassured, it is a very safe chemistry.
Take a look at the safety test at the end of its datasheet.
Yes i can vouch for this as i may have accidentally charged 30Q and also vtc5 maybe 3 or 4 times in the last 2yrs. This was my stupid error, not done on purpose so do not recommend obviously. No issue, certainly no venting , i simply had a 4.35v 30Q which no doubt would have took a couple of cycles off its life. Cells are used still today with no issue found or noticed in use.
I know you are all on the edge of your seats wondering what my FINAL battery decision will be for my D1vn SST40 HD.
After looking at the comparator over and over again[!!!] for at least a half hour of total time, and analyzing the VTC5A with all the legitimate contenders, I have chosen the VTC5A :sunglasses: which has better or just as good voltage curve until 3.68Amps against the 30Q. I will be changing my battery by then!
My buddy and hometown dealers website reviews of the VTC5A also helped. ,Liionwholesale.com :+1:
Would be interesting to compare the D1 with the TN4A HI, they might be about the same size and the same price.
The TN4A can output turbo for 60min without stepdown (I’d be surprised if the D1 can do the same), uses classic AA battery (advantage ?)
2 posts and you already seem to now everythhing about pocket throwers, please enlighten us !
Quick thoughts :
1 cm more in diameter, bulky cylinder form factor for the TN4A, 10$ more, 250 lumens less and twice the weight of the D1…
They’re not even competitors.
if you’re happy, i’m happy.
I just wanted to create interest in a comparison, that I find justified. Discussions are interesting imo.
Now, if you feel attacked, sit back and continue your day
Now, let’s talk technical :
a bit more volume and a bit more weight : yes, and that’s probably why you can have 60min at turbo.
I’m not sure smaller is better, how usefull would be a keychain with 6000 lumens that works only 10 sec before stepdown to 100 lumens ?
but in case that’s your thing, the D4 is revolutionary, much more than the D1 i’d say
My D1 goes a few minutes before stepping down in my hand. Also its tiny in comparison and has quite a bit of usable spill. The ui is incredible also. Also I don’t consider buying AA batteries constantly as a plus either.
I am big fan of NiMH AA……. but TN4A not offers 60 minutes without step.
Weigh of 4 NiMH PRO are more than 100 gr.
……really, nobody of those who have been here for more than two days, would think to compare a flashlight as the D1 with the TN4A …. :person_facepalming:
Seriously, nobody called the D1 revelutionary. And it is not revolutionary, but it IS a real nice pocket thrower. Nice size, nice form, nice build quality, great ui.
TN4A is nice but not really comparable, but if you think so than please include the convoy L6 in your comparison. More lumens and throw, just a bit bigger.
