You’re in fact buying a Peugeot which can transform into a Ferrari when needed to. Not the other way round. (A Ferrari cost more than $40 bucks) If you want a Ferrari get a X65 instead.
I’m not a modder, but I believe it is said several times that it’s not going to fit. The FET driver is really compact; I’ve seen a picture of it somewhere. It’s probably a silly thought, but perhaps you can put a larger driver in it combined with an 18500 cell (with an 18650 tube)?
That’s what I thought, thanks for confirmation. I guess a spacer, like the two DBCustom uses with 20700 would work as well.
So I have a request to Hank:
Please make a D1 variant with XHP35 HI.
If it is several mm longer, that’s fine, it will still be compact.
If it is more costly (I expect significantly more), that’s fine, the closest competitor would be Zebra which is much costlier anyway. And lacks your great UI. And lacks 18350 tube.
D1 with XHP35 HI would have:
more lumens, depending on the driver
wider beam
larger hotspot
more spill
overall, it would likely stop being a thrower and become a more general-purpose light
much higher efficiency in high modes, higher efficiency across the board
longer runtime in all modes, regardless if the runtime is limited by heat or battery capacity
Your Emisar lights really stand out of the crowd. I believe this one would too.
Is XHP35 really worth it? Sounds like you would get similar performance simply swapping the emitter to dedomed SST40, without the need for a boost driver.
I personally would not be bothered by the difference in throw. I’m interested in a constant output of 1500~2000 lumens independent of cell voltage. But this (FET vs constant output) has been discussed on several occasion in the D4 thread.
