Oh! The Eastward J609 now without Strobe (hi-mid-low)

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.47626~r.43033281

Still expensive

****! Another model name comflict! order this and probably you will get the strobe model

Nice find... I guess I have no excuse now not to buy it...

It's the brightest I have on an AA NiMH (164 lumens) and still good on alkalines - 147 lumens peak which is impressive.

Maybe the dealers have noticed that nobody actually wants strobe and they are ordering appropriately from the manufacturers.

Here's hoping.

How annoying is that recessed switch, Don?

:)

It's not bad. I can actually operate it with the ball of my thumb though I'd normally use the tip of it.

The metal switch cover does rattle slightly, the switch action is smooth and short.

Payed for one ... At last a 3 mode , less strobe ... Had to put my money where my mouth was ...

4 Flashlights in one month ... Might have to ease off till 2011 .... Not sure I can go without buying a light ... for the rest of the year ...

Caution! same model number...... hope you get the H M L version instead of the H M Strobe version

RMA is just a click away, if I receive the wrong light...

Don: Could you measure the diameter where the clip is? 20-21mm?

Nice! Finally! For me, this is still the #1 best looking flashlight design that I have seen. Absolutely perfect. So I am now $19.80 poorer and back in the DX waiting game... As Vectrex says, if they do send me a strobe version, I will file an RMA ticket.

I think we can owe the existence of this light to our attempts to create a custom version of this light. Apparently Eastward is slow, but they're not stupid either. They received numerous requests for a no-strobe version of this light from BLF members and from Manafont, and now it's finally here. Pretty cool, no?

Rather less than that it is about 1.4mm narrower than the tailcap making it 116.5-16.7mm. The widest part of the light is only about 18.5mm according to my dubious callipers.

Does it have mode memory?

I want a low mode to use at night, so I have to be able to make it start on low. Even though I can cover the lens with my hand I don't like getting skin oil on the lens.

And if I turn it away I wake the wife....

Kind of hoping it doesn't, since I've ordered MrLite's...

Thanks, for your measurements ... but I think I wasn't clear on what diameter I want ... I meant to say "diameter with clip included" ... I would guess the clip adds 2-3 mm ...

Including the clip, I make it 20mm

Thanks, Don... that light is tiny

These are all single cell AA lights. The Eastward YJ J09 is second from the right. MrLite J4, Trustfire R5-A3, Ultrafire U-20, EastwardYJ J09, Tank007 E07

And here they are standing up. Slightly different order this time, J4, U-20, R5-A3, J09, E07

I've put some comparison beamshots in the U20 thread.

What in the world? They just updated the description on this item. Get this:

Now it's for sure, this is the 4-mode AA-Z4 that we requested a while back from Eastward, but without the XP-G emitter. Eastward was smart enough to recognize the business opportunity, but I suspect they only wanted to sell it in huge quantities through DX. So, the lesson from this? The squeaky wheel gets the grease. BLF produces results!

4 modes? even better...

Do XP-E R3 exist in huge quantities?

I hope that "Coated Plastic Lens" is an error on DX....

Errors? On DX? Can't be. :)

Yeah , XP-E R3 exists ..... I have one myself ....

4 Mode rather than 3 ... OK got my fingers crossed that DX has there act together on this one ...

Looks like DX is waiting for orders to build up once again ...
