Is XHP35 really worth it? Sounds like you would get similar performance simply swapping the emitter to dedomed SST40, without the need for a boost driver.
I personally would not be bothered by the difference in throw. I’m interested in a constant output of 1500~2000 lumens independent of cell voltage. But this (FET vs constant output) has been discussed on several occasion in the D4 thread.
It would result in a similar peak performance. Maybe even higher, depending on a driver…but way lower efficiency.
At turbo levels XHP35 may produce half the heat (assuming same output now) and run 3 times longer until it needs to step down.
Also, dedomed would have the same beam profile as the current light. Domed would be floodier.
I got my green one yesterday (3A bin), and I am seriously fascinated by this light. Before I took it outside I spent ages playing around with the UI, and it is just not possible to appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into programming the driver software, before actually experiencing it. Especially as I thought that the ramping would happen a lot more quickly, which would have made it a lot more difficult to set the output to the right level. But so far it has been working really smoothly. The throw was also much better than what I thought would be possible with such a small reflector. But the light also got hot faster than expected.
Really happy with my purchase - I might even add the shorter battery tube when I order the D4, even though I can’t see it ever being more than a gimmick.
I have a question. I notice my D1 flashes once when you reach minimum or maximum brightness while ramping. But it also flashes once at about half brightness while ramping. Is this normal?
As the ramp is fast (2.5s to max) it sounds like the 350ma setting your going past. May just seem in the middle of the ramp…….of course I may be wrong!
Yes mine blinks at min and at max , also the 350ma level which is also the level when locked out, lock in and blinks twice. You get a pre set 350ma level like the D4 if makes sense.
And soooooooo much fun!!! I don’t know how I’m ever supposed to enjoy a light without ramping driver again… can’t stop going up and down, up and down, and up, and down again (ad nauseam) each time I walk my dog at night. Somehow it makes me feel like I’m at least 30 years younger again!
It’s everything about the Emisar that simply puts a smile on your face. It’s the secure click of the button, the overall machining and finish, the smooth threads, the clean appearance of the spring section of the tailcap, the crisp lettering on the back and font and layout. Seriously, just check out the back of the Emisar for the lettering and experience how much effort has gone into it. Can’t wait to receive the “grainy” cyan and green versions.
For the record - and I’ve said this before - I’m not into ramping, and I’m not into FET drives. And yet I consider the Emisar perfection.
Thanks It is more of curiosity, as I have the Jaxman M8 under sight for so long, but not the Emisar D1 comes and makes things complicated :person_facepalming: Despite being different lights in terms of functioning, of course!
Thanks!
