- The Fake-Cree LED Awareness Thread - The new "low" in Budget lights.

Oh man that is a very well done fake indeed

Definitely not a genuine Cree. Likely a latticebright XM-L2 knockoff.

sorry i can’t speak english. Thx!

Spotted about 90% of the local toolstore’s cheap end headlights with “CREE T6 LED” to be fakes.
Nice…

I’d like to ask how does a fake Cree T6 LED look like?

I’ve got a couple of generic “XML T6” LED flashlights, but I don’t know how to differentiate since I don’t have a known-real XML T6 to compare it with.

I’ve tried taking picture of the LED, but my entry-level digital camera doesn’t focus too well, this is my best shot yet:

@ d_t_a , very fake and bad performing.

So, is the above fake XML-T6 a LatticeBright or a LB clone?

Have another one to help identify:
This is from an UltraFire UK68, supposedly Cree Q5 LED:
(pardon again, it’s very tiny and my camera is having a hard time focusing on it… )

(The glass/dome seems to look quite dirty from the pic…)

Yes definitely likely a litticebright low quality knock off of a Cree.

Fake XP-E
Possibly LB

Problems with OP photos

I will work on fixing that this weekend. (the photobucket change screwed over all of us)

There’s no hurry
It was just to warn
A friend wanted to know how to recognize a fake

Hi.

I bought a cheap light at a local store and for the fun of it, I took a look at the led to check if it was cree or fake. I’m unable to see the pictures in the OP, and even haven gone though all the post in this thread, I’m unable to know exactly what to look for. The soldering looks to be round, indicating it to be cree however the print+led isn’t ‘waved’ (in lack of a better word) indicating it to be fake? The print itself doesnt state CREE but BG so I assume it is a fake. I would just like to be able to tell it just by looking at the led itself.

Thanks!

Edit:
I took a different light I had laying around and did the same on that. The led looks almost the same (round solderings, no waved print/dome) but the print looks nicer. Dont know that to make of it. Anyone ?

Fake for me
The core is too small

Bad fakes

The real ones have bigger die and ESD protective device

Thanks! I really appreciate it.

I just took another pictures of another light I have (Nitefigter bt20). The core is much larger than the others but still no esd wire. The ‘waved’ dome/print I mentioned before is there. To me it looks a lot like the model photo in the last post.

Whats your opinion ?

The ESD wire is not seen if you look from above, on an angle you can see it or from the side
This LED looks like a real Cree, at the opposite side of the bond wires you have near the die corners 2 sqaured dots

Definite fakes. I will fix the OP immages asap, ( they went bad do to the photobucket mess)

Sorry for spamming, but I have an ongoing argument for this one. Can you please post your view on this led?

I think that’s a Lattice Bright XM-L clone. In the real Cree XM-L pics that I’ve seen, the diagonal corners of the yellow square is almost the same as the diameter of the dome.
