Bump sensitivity is an inherent issue in any light without springs on both ends. However, longer cells or BAT- magnets would probably help. I’ve used this approach before and it was effective.
Another option is possibly adding some short/long press detection to the firmware and resuming at the previous level after a short press. This could probably make the Q8 tolerate pretty long interruptions of power, depending on how fast the MCU’s SRAM decays. I suspect that a couple “noinit” vars checked on boot could probably make bumps a non-issue.
Remember when joggers ran with portable CD players?
Those had to be developed to tolerate all sorts of bumping and jarring, I recall.
I guess they cached a few seconds of the recording. Like the “5-second obscenity delay” on live television …
To clarify, I am using 30Q button tops from MTN Electronics that appear to be about 66.5mm. Also to clarify this is not something I am hugely concerned about. I have a M43 which had a similar issue and I have never run into an issue with that yet and am not worried either.
I prepared the cheat sheet in the Hungarian language. This is not a small but quite understandable thing I think. Anyone who needs this can download it on THIS LINK.
My Q8 is finally in transit! For anyone that wants a simple way to track their Q8 (or any other shipment), I recommend using an app called ‘Delivered!’ I don’t think it’s on Google Play but it’s an iPhone app that I got for free a while back. It was on sale so I’m not sure how much it costs now, but man that app has been so nice. You just put in any tracking number and it figures out the rest for you, then sends you updates every time it leaves a trackable destination. I usually get about 6-7 notifications before the package arrives at the house, and on the day of delivery I get a notice saying “out for delivery”. That way I know it’s gonna be there when I get home.
It’s worked so far for the Q8 using just the initial number Banggood gave me. Now it’s somewhere in Arizona headed my way. Just wanted to let ya’ll know about it so you could track all your lights and batteries etc with ease. You can track as many packages at the same time as you want. Just label them and sit back and wait for notifications; or click on it repeatedly because you have OCD. Your call
My first one or two should get delivered on Saturday, and the rest as few days later.
I remember it being a lot longer, maybe even more than a minute. I still have a couple of them, although not sure why since the only one I’d use does mp3 cd’s, and the only cd burner I have is a portable that’s who knows where.
WestBam, that pic looks like it could be right around the corner from my house! The plants, trees, we have very similar here… even the gravel road. lol
Nice work, thanks for sharing!
Zulumoose, that is indeed a nice score! Hope it fits as perfectly as you expect, great way to protect an epic light.
