Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Wow. That’s about all I can say. My first Q8 arrived last night (not original batch AFAICT), and I can find nothing to complain about. Awesome light. Kudos to the entire team. If I could only own one flashlight (ah! the horror!) the Q8 would be it.

I don’t normally like lighted switches and parasitic drain. But the Q8 does it right.

My experience with Bistro and Biscotti had me drifting towards preferring simpler UIs. But, again, Narsil is just right. I intend to use it as a moonlight/turbo 2-mode light, but I can ramp if I really want to. It doesn’t get much simpler than that.

Wow. And, again, kudos. Thanks for all your hard work. This light is an unbelievable deal. I hope the ano can survive the constant fondling and drooling it seems to demand.

Iam not trying to play down what members did to make this light work, but you can’t tell me the paper work that was sent with the light is easy to understand. You take one look at it and think holy blank this isn’t easy to understand. (quote=Lazy-R-us]

OK, Good you are already most of the way there. I was confused by the blink pattern as well - Tom set it up so that there are 2 blinks to focus attention, then a number of blinks to show what setting you are configuring. What helps me is to think or say “Con-Fig” or “Men-Ue” when those first two blinks happen. Then you count off to the appropriate setting.

So- click on, eight second click and hold.
“Con-Fig” 1 - ramping mode (click once to disable, click twice to enable)
“Con-Fig” 2 - set moonlight level (click between one and seven times to set your fav moonlight level)
“Con-Fig” 3 - set stepdown (click once to disable, twice for temp, three times for timed)

  • If you select temp stepdown, the LED’s turn on to max and the light starts to heat up, let it warm up to your level of comfort, then click.
  • If you select timed stepdown, click once for 60 seconds, twice for 90 sec, three times for two mins, four times for three mins, five clicks for five mins, six clicks for seven mins.

“Con-Fig” 4 - blinky mode (click once to disable, twice for one strobe, three times for all strobes)
Light will blink four times to indicate config session is done and turn off.
At any point in the config session, click and hold will exit the session (blinking four times to let you know).

The best and worst part of a community collaborative project is that if you think something should be done differently - you have the power to do so. No fair claiming that “Someone” should make it better. Dig in - learn to use it, document it in a way that makes sense to you, then post it. If it works better for enough people, it will get adopted as the new standard.

I’ll have one Q8 from the second batch here at Friday , i changed the springs board with one from TA in my first Q8 , so i have still the untouched board to compare springs etc , if anyone is interested .

Btw , banggood’s priority mail worked well , 2/10 shipped and has schedulded delivery for 13/10 . Pretty good for 1.7$

Well mine was shipped 28 Sept and according to tracking the latest update is Leaving The Shenzhen Operations Center. 2017-10-01 00:44

2 weeks to go nowhere according to that.

I give up on ordering from China after this one.

There is no option to make the light stay on all the time.

The problem with off as default is you can’t tell when power is connected or if it’s mechanically locked out. It can also be hard to find in the dark. Hard to find the button as well.

Yep, that’s the one, Dale. Works like a charm.

Bought it, filled in about 5 things I have on order, the 1st Q8 is listed as en-route and it even shows a pin-on-a-map for the last known location. I had to look up the FedEx numbers to get it tracking as the YT number seemed to be giving it problems. Pretty cool feature set, I’ll get notifications without having to look them up online so that’s neat too. Thanks for pointing it out.

My second batch Q8 is waiting … and waiting … and waiting … in Hongkong.

:weary:

So I expected my two lights tomorrow…

I couldn’t hold back so I checked the tracking…

AND THEY BOTH ARRIVED TODAY!!! 8) :+1:

But why am I stuck in a meeting for the next hour???

:person_facepalming: :rage: :weary:

Just got mine out of the mailbox and first inspection it looks perfect.

Yeah Dale, the map feature is nice. The kids and I have been watching my Q8 drift across the country from California to Georgia for over a week on the map. It had a weird layover in Arizona for a few days and it’s been a mile from my house for three tortuous days lol.

Hallelujah! It turns a rookie carrier didn’t know to put the package box key into my mailbox… :person_facepalming: So my two lights and batteries were locked up all long weekend… Both lights are clean, no damage to anything, and all screws match and are not stripped or anything. Unit 1 works well. I think I drove my wife a little crazy - ramp up, ramp down, ramp up, ramp down, etc. Charging batteries for unit 2. I’m sure it will be fine. Great work crew!! What a deal for $40!

Q8

My Q8 arrived today, very nice light. Everything well lubed, all screws look perfect, and the holes in the driver are bigger now, the screws fit through. The button LEDs are equally bright. :+1:
Somehow there was a little solder blob in the head, I just removed it. And the brass ring has some residue on it.
Now I have to wait for my VTC6 cells and mod the light.

nvanlaar, that little folding wood chisel looks cool!

Congrats on the grab, ya just gotta love it when a plan comes together! :stuck_out_tongue:

THIS WAS 12 DAYS AGO…I DONT GET IT ??
DOES FEDEX actually even have my light, or is it still in china ??

ive got a dozen samsung 30qs sitting here from bangood, i ordered after my 3 lights
they have been here for weeks now collecting dust…sigh….

+1 … I received the same when I tracked my order through FedEx.

Yes … very weird indeed. I sent Banggood a note and awaiting reply. I feel an explanation is in order. I do not mind waiting but this shipping info is unclear at best … Good Luck …

Unfortunately banggood will not have anything to do with thshipping once it is out of their hands. Fed ex smart post is usually very slow once the item is in their hands. They will always give priority to any items that they are carrying where the higher fees have been paid. Then, when there is room left in the trucks or whatever they are using to transport the parcels they then send the smart post items. They also choose, via algorithms, the cheapest possible route. That algorithm, unfortunately, doesn’t take into consideration annoyed customers.

Mine arrived today.

Some pictures if anyone wants: https://imgur.com/a/8pJpr

Finish is perfect. No defects or blemishes.
Plenty of lube on the threads.
Switch LED is fine.
Screw heads and threads are perfect looking.
One of the screw holes at the tail isn’t flawless around the edge but it’s fine.
LEDs are centered.

If I am nitpicking there is a light fingerprint on the inside part of the lens but it’s not a concern. I can’t get the bezel off by hand so I’ll deal with that later.

I’m happy. Just waiting for dark.

No. They don’t.

Use the YTxxxxxxxxxxxxxx tracking to see where your package is.

Whew! My two Q8 lights are in hand. Mine appear very well put together. Clean and they look like they were assembled with care.

VTC6 cells are working nicely in one and the other is waiting for the GA cells to charge.

The UI is intuitive and I don’t think I have any need for modes. I gave up on studying the cheat sheet before I got the lights as I learn best through doing. As soon as I loaded it up with cells, I got it to work with no surprises. Tonight and this weekend will be further testing time for sure.

I’m really surprised by the small size. The first pics from TF made it look gigantic. Must have been held by a person with small hands. I love the size to power ratio. I’ve been enjoying the heck out of my Astrolux MF-01, but the head size is pretty dang big. The Q8 is much more comfortable in the hand (size-wise). It’s a bit more crisp around the edges, but it’ll probably aid when hands get wet, dirty or sweaty.

It’s so wonderful to finally have my lights in my possession! What a long, strange trip it’s been. Totally worth it (and then some)!

Thanks to The Miller and the Q8 team!

Now what am I gonna do with my time not checking the Q8 thread each and every day looking for updates? FW3A? Sounds like a plan!
