Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Unfortunately banggood will not have anything to do with thshipping once it is out of their hands. Fed ex smart post is usually very slow once the item is in their hands. They will always give priority to any items that they are carrying where the higher fees have been paid. Then, when there is room left in the trucks or whatever they are using to transport the parcels they then send the smart post items. They also choose, via algorithms, the cheapest possible route. That algorithm, unfortunately, doesn’t take into consideration annoyed customers.

Mine arrived today.

Some pictures if anyone wants: https://imgur.com/a/8pJpr

Finish is perfect. No defects or blemishes.
Plenty of lube on the threads.
Switch LED is fine.
Screw heads and threads are perfect looking.
One of the screw holes at the tail isn’t flawless around the edge but it’s fine.
LEDs are centered.

If I am nitpicking there is a light fingerprint on the inside part of the lens but it’s not a concern. I can’t get the bezel off by hand so I’ll deal with that later.

I’m happy. Just waiting for dark.

No. They don’t.

Whew! My two Q8 lights are in hand. Mine appear very well put together. Clean and they look like they were assembled with care.

VTC6 cells are working nicely in one and the other is waiting for the GA cells to charge.

The UI is intuitive and I don’t think I have any need for modes. I gave up on studying the cheat sheet before I got the lights as I learn best through doing. As soon as I loaded it up with cells, I got it to work with no surprises. Tonight and this weekend will be further testing time for sure.

I’m really surprised by the small size. The first pics from TF made it look gigantic. Must have been held by a person with small hands. I love the size to power ratio. I’ve been enjoying the heck out of my Astrolux MF-01, but the head size is pretty dang big. The Q8 is much more comfortable in the hand (size-wise). It’s a bit more crisp around the edges, but it’ll probably aid when hands get wet, dirty or sweaty.

It’s so wonderful to finally have my lights in my possession! What a long, strange trip it’s been. Totally worth it (and then some)!

Thanks to The Miller and the Q8 team!

Now what am I gonna do with my time not checking the Q8 thread each and every day looking for updates? FW3A? Sounds like a plan!

bistro-HD Q8 bugfix coming shortly.

So someone showed me the mcu pinouts for the Q8, but that left off the fact that the voltage divider resistors are not installed on the Q8. Someone else downloaded the latest Q8 version of bistro HD shortly after I mentioned it in this thread, so just posting back here for the record, the posted version attempts to use the non-existant voltage divider for LVP. This likely causes it not to work, certainly causes LVP not to work. This will be fixed in the next version to be posted in the next few days probably, and will be tested on a real Q8.

I generally use the voltage divider if it's there, for-non OTSM firmwares, because it allows the same firmware to be used in 2S lights. But of course if it's not there, it's not there. It's just a config option change. I'll probably post back in the Q8 modding thread when it's confirmed working.

Got both of mine today. They are both almost flawless in finish and all electronics work correctly. I am very impressed at what $40 can do with a whole lot of BLF initiative, intelligence, and follow-thru. Kudos to the design team, especially The Miller for putting up with all of our input. BEST DOGGONE $40 LIGHT ON THE PLANET!

The human factor is fun, no?

With bistro, for example, it took about 700 bytes to implement all the core functionality… and about 1300 bytes to add options for people who have different preferences. It seems like Narsil has pretty much the same difficulty, only on a bigger scale. Lots of code devoted to dealing with humanity, and relatively little code for driving the hardware.

People rarely agree about anything.

It can help to keep in mind that we’re all stuck together in a box with hundreds of flashlights.

I know it’s frustrating being stuck together in this cramped space with nothing to do but debate the merits of pictures of Joe Biden eating a sandwich, er, I mean, the finer points of flashlights… but it’s a lot easier for everyone if we can avoid arguing or at least confine arguments to private messages.

Could we move this somewhere with less traffic?

(incidentally, I hadn’t seen any of this when I posted the XKCD pic a moment ago, but it seemed oddly relevant)

Got home late tonight and found the Q8 in my mailbox! Threads, screws, traces, springs, etc. all look perfect. Proper amount of lube. There is a slight roughness on the bare edge of the threads, which is easily sanded.
At this point, I am pleased and want to give highest praise to the team that worked so hard to bring this $40 miracle to me.
Too late to fire it up tonight. I will follow up tomorrow.

Please note unsubtle editing by me  Got that off my chest :smiling_imp:

wow, you are the man!
link worked like a charm
at least i know where my 3 lights are now
ty so much sir :+1:

You and me both. I made Bistro, and it did what was needed at the time… but I’d rather use Narsil.

My fault. I just imagined what I thought I should see there, and projected from early versions possibly. I was not intending to post blame. I did actually mean to edit and say ("or I thought that's what I saw") because I realized after I posted it, that maybe I didn't. Didn't meant to start fuss. My fault. Apologies.

Narsil is very easy, laid back. It's like strolling in the park. If you wander the wrong, way, it's all cool, just turn the corner and wander back the other way. I like it, it's intuitive. But I need something where I always know exactly where I am and where I'm going, and for me personally(I'm not even saying as a general fact) Bistro does that, and it's all personal because I find Bistro "simpler". I'm in no way at all disparaging Narsil. I just like bistro, and I've made it work on e-switch, and I'm sharing it.

As for less traffic, I did already say I'd post follow ups elsewhere, and I explained why I posted that here, but really, I mean look at this thread, at least this actually relates to using the light and I'm not complaining that the Miller fried my batteries and killed my dog. The attempt to move the discussion elsewhere seems to have been self-defeated though.

Sounds good… What is the name of the app??

My comment was in no way meant to be an insult to Bistro or Biscotti. I’m a programmer, I have a local branch of your bzr repo, I appreciate the work you do, and I love having FLOSSlights. It’s a personal preference thing.

Simpler, non-configurable UIs never did quite what I wanted, but I’m just too lazy to configure computers with a one-button keyboard and a one pixel display.

It's all good. It's just choices. I really do feel laid back with Narsil now that I get to try it, and if I collect enough lights, I'll probably keep one with it, maybe even this Q8 in the end, which probably won't be an EDC anyway. It's definitely(well, ok, to me) an easy-going ui.

Got my light, woot woot. So far everything looks awesome. Very well put together and great machining.

Only downside is learning the UI, holy cow.

Great job guys.

It’s called “Delivered!”, and it can be found on the Apple App Store. Not sure about Android.
