It's pretty much as you say. I created the name RampingIOS based on the fact it was spec'd to be ramping only, custom designed to IOS's specs. So at the time, I took my latest Narsil (think it was an early NarsilM, not sure), and started stripping things out - MODES operation and indicator LED support were the first to go, streamlined the header files, etc. Then I built out the changed, or newly added features such as tactical mode. Took about a full weekend for the first pass, then things begun to get dicey with trouble-shooting issues for low level outputs of the 7135, running mostly depleted cells, etc. - lots of testing/experimentation, etc. The whole thing got blown wayyy out of any reasonable effort of time, but, it's very easy to get lost in the last 1% of a development project, the proverbial "we are 99% complete" that lasts forever...
Wow, nice George! Just a few mins ago I got a new one in my hands and seems to match what you got there, but didn't do a tear down - I'm at work. The beveling of the drilled holes is a nice touch! - takes me a lot of time manually trimming with an Xacto, then sanding.
Hope the driver thread holes are done the same way.
Bad news on the springs though, least for me. They apparently did not deliver on the springs we were shown in pictures - probably would have delayed shipping because it all happened on the late side, so probably dropped. If 100% identical, then the same stiffness I suppose. I'll check some time today, taking full measurements of wire thickness, etc.
Not sure how to use scissors on those tail board drill holes, but I do have countersunk bits on order, so maybe will wait til they arrive and try them.
The mechanical modding stuff is not my area of expertise for sure, but it's more fun doing to me. Just wish I had more of a "machinist" background because a lot of the language, tools, methods is not familiar.
Damned smart post. Yesterday q8 was a half hour away couple towns over. Now it’s in another state and pushed back again a couple more days.
Can’t wait until monday!!!
I have never intentionally bought one, but have 3 or 4 lying around because they often come with a set of drill bits, same goes for centre punches, more people have them than would ever think to buy one deliberately.
When in max brightness mode, after 3 seconds it blinks 3 times and goes to lower brightness. Same thing happens at lower brightness until it gets three more lower brightness mode.
It is not related to temperatures because it happens when it is cool as well.
Maybe it is related to battery? This did not happen at full charge. But this is now happening with 3.4Volt charge. Batteries are 4 button top 18650-30Q
My third Q8 beat the second to California, the 1st is still lounging around in Sweetwater, TX. Funny, this 1st one must have an affinity for water as it first hung out in Palm Springs before taking up temporary residence in Sweetwater. Hmmmm, a dive Q8? lol
I have three pairs of scissors I use at the bench, the smallest has blades 1 3/8” long, the next 2 1/4” and the largest 3”, the two smaller ones have very sharp pointed ends. So even a small threaded hole is not a problem to debur with the finely ground steel blades of quality shear’s. I use scissors to strip wires, cut wires, clean epoxy (cured) off a toothpick so it can be used repeatedly and whatever else they seem relevant for.
