Finally , on the move…….

Thanks Ag76. My info is the same as yours, processed in Compton, CA this morning. To be delivered by USPS.

Could someone recommend a tripod lanyard screw for this? Can't seem to find a nice one.

The one you linked I use a lot and is about as good as it gets, I’ve looked everywhere for something better and I can’t find it, so I’d suggest what you have there.

I also just got my Q8’s today and all I can say is WOW, what a beautiful light.
I could not find one flaw, not even a spec of dust in the reflector, not a sharp spot on the light anywhere, even has some thread lube on it, just beautiful and extremely nice machine work.
Thank you to all involved in making this happen, this light is just over the top.
I could not be anymore happy at all,
Thank You again Q8 Team you are tops …!!

Just got an email from Liion Wholesale has button top 30Q’s in stock today

for Akovia:

Go to the top of the page
Choose “Search within thread”
enter the words “tripod socket” (without quotation marks)

That will give you a variety of possibilities several people have mentioned

So my Q8 seems great. No scratches, not dirt, led's fairly well aligned (not quite dead perfect, but ok). The screws are nice quality with the possible exception of the LED board center screw that still doesn't look bad. The indicator LED's are not quite even (mabe 2x different), but they work, and it's not an issue to me. My battery tube initially located just short of perfect alignment, and after a little use it's already gone past perfect alignment, so that just proves it's not a reasonable thing to expect and isn't possible to deliver, at least not without a completely redesigned closure mechanism. It definitely has the bump-on bump off feature. Handy for slamming it down on the table to turn it off. Not dependable for biking, but it's not uncommon from what I can tell.

Otherwise, it works great. I do have bistro-HD running on it (not the posted version, it doesn't work). The light does seem to have switch bouncing (mostly simple fix), so I'm guessing my bench setups don't because of either the big OTSM cap they have (even when I'm not testing them for OTSM) and/or maybe the lack of R1/R2 impacts C1 stability, not sure, but it bounces, and the bouncing finds every little race in the code real fast. There's still some rare lockup so maybe it find that soon or maybe I won't.

Nice light, well done.

Someone up there
EDIT: that was Nil, at Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light - #13392 by Nil

recommended this one. I agree it looks better than the other choices.

Removing the switch cover

You can scratch the black ring, try to wrap one layer of tape arround the needle noses of the pliers

Just preformed the requested test. Deactivation of the switch LED has no affect on the constant glowing of the main LED’s.

I will now disassemble for inspection of the SMD components on the driver. I’ll be sure to get some close up photos for documentation and analysis.

Received my Q8 (second batch).
Construction cannot be faulted, though I haven’t turned on yet (BT VTC6s still charging).
Tripod hole is perfect!

Thanks!

Everything I have seen suggested so far seems pretty generic. The ones that already come with some flashlights seem more durable and of course purpose made. Was hoping there was a place to buy these.

Like this one from the Lumintop PS03 reviewed here.

So many nice lights have tripod mounts now. Hopefully someone will produce a quality lanyard screw for the aftermarket. Guess I could try contacting Lumintop.

Okay, this is a puzzling thing to say. Bicycles have vertical loads (bumps on ground). Assuming the flashlight is not pointed straight up at the sky, why would the batteries ever loose contact?

Tks all, I guess it could be this cover then, if it can move even further over from what I saw…I was imagining a flat switch underneath but I guess not. So it looks like there is a mobile peg type switch underneath? I don’t currently have access, but should this weekend and will try replacing the cover.

TY for the suggestion, I wouldn’t want to scratch a gift.

Got it opened up and snapped a few photos. I’m not seeing anything that I think may be causing the issue. I’ve inspected all the closely spaced pins on the different components and I don’t see any obvious solder bridges. I’ll go ahead and give it a spray down with contact cleaner to see if that helps any. Beyond cleaning, what else should I do? Is there any testing that I should do with my DMM?

This was posted earlier here. Maybe it will give you a better understanding.

With enough experience I might learn to depend on it, but there are times where I wouldn't want to find out by experimenting. I'm not sure either way if it will be good enough, but this everything bumps only up and down argument sounds a bit oversimplified for representing reality too me. You may bicycle differently from me. Cruising around in the park is one thing. This is a commonly reported issue for cycling too. I wouldn't call it a flaw exactly, just not a strength.

Well, don’t take this too seriously (I don’t), but after pocket carrying it for 2 days, I’ve decided that the Q8 will not be my new EDC light.

My normal attire is cargo shorts and a polo shirt, and the left cargo pocket is usually dedicated to a tube light, either 18650 or 18350. If there’s a Q8 there, I don’t really enjoy biking (the Q8 has to go in the pannier), and the weight is quite noticeable. Shocking, right?

I’ll try just about anything in my EDC rotation, but after 2 days carrying the Q8, I’m looking forward to the return of my jaxman e2/convoy s2+ hybrid nichia 18350. Just in (the unlikely) case anybody else was wondering.

When my grenade pouch comes in, I might try it again.
