Budget Light Forum Harvey Relief Sales Thread

I have contacts with a church that has been dispensing food and diapers as the cleanup continues, I’m also checking into whether or not it would be good to help the local Police departments that have been so heavily taxed helping the victims of this storm. There are a lot of publicly known entities that garner all the attention, I would like to find a more direct route to the little people that are working so diligently behind the scenes. All of it will be going to help those still cleaning up and trying to rebuild, just trying to find the most needy, those that the greater organizations haven’t helped.

just help someone

that’s what I wanted to do

+1000 please do.

I guess I’m saying do something. I hate stagnation in the face of need. We went through a couple earthquakes and a more recent flood. Our needs were immediate. Insurance or Fema came later. We needed water/food/batteries/medicines…money doesn’t immediately supply those.
Anyway, people will survive. And I hope we can help some to come through easier.

I hear ya chinooker, I hear ya.

I have been looking at closing this, there are lights nobody seems interested in and the spirit of helping seems to have dwindled in the face of other catastrophe’s around the globe. So I want to put an end to it and go forward with the contribution. Because yes, need is now, in so many ways.

I’m still trying to find a local church or something that is helping but haven’t found anything yet. I guess now that the immediate crisis is over no one is thinking about the long road of recovery ahead.

That’s exactly why I wasn’t worried about it taking some time, those that aren’t actually involved can’t realize just how long a road it is to get back up and running after something like that. Especially the Rockport area that got annihilated by the eye of the storm, gonna be a long time before any kind of normalcy occurs.

well, I am disenchanted with this project
I don’t want anything
butt will consider hard my participation in any other efforts to help
I’ll look around

Neal informed me that he is putting together a spreadsheet to give to Lumintop so they can all be shipped at once. I get the feeling the Chinese Holiday has had something to do with all this and they are now back to normal. So everybody’s light/lights should be shipping out soon.

I am not sure you understand my displeasure
I wanted to help someone
someone

get the help out to someone
not my damn lights

I do understand, and help it will. Those big guys come in and take names and information, cut checks, the process begins… who’s there 6 weeks down the road? 8? Everybody forgets about em and moves on. I am about to get at least half of it to a Church I know of that is moving food and diapers and clothing by the truckload on a daily basis. Still. It’s getting harder and harder for the Church to keep supplies, people are slacking off. Gotta be somebody to have their back. Right?

And for the record, I’ve already equipped a help team from here locally with lights and cells and chargers and water to go in and assist with the cleanup. It’s an everyday thing. Taken one day at a time. You have no idea the mess down there, every house dumping massive piles of water soaked sheetrock and insulation and couches and TV’s and refrigerators and washer/dryers and beds and antique furniture that’s been in the family for ages. Piles of rubbish as big as the destroyed houses, up one side and down the other on street after street after street. There’s a LOT of need for a very long time in all this. It’s not a rush in and help and wash your hands and go back to business kind of venture. 10’s of thousands, 100’s of thousands of lives have been turned upside down. You really think $1200 is gonna save an area 200 miles long and 100 miles deep?

Dale, thanks for doing this.

I’ve been intimately involved in emergency situations (2 earthquakes, and 1 flood)
That is why I offered help
Do not tell me I don’t have any idea of the mess these ppl are suffering
I went through it in Sylmar and Northridge quakes and we had to move out while our home was rebuilt
We recently 2011 had a flood and we had to get out again as our home was again rebuilt.

So don’t even tell me that I don’t feel for those people that are displaced

I can’t say more or I’d be ruded

just do something
with my money

Sorry, didn’t mean that to be directed at you specifically, since this is an open forum with people from all over the world I speak in general terms.

And I will.

:+1: Awesome.
I don’t mind the wait, but the vagueness was quite annoying.

As for the money, i’m sure it will end up where it’s needed.

so…
Any word yet on this?

Tomorrow makes 2 weeks since the comment about Neal getting the info to lumintop. Here’s to hoping it’s less than 2 more weeks to go.

This doesn’t bode well for future efforts to help people from here.
It isn’t easy, I know, butt communication is essential.
