ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Link doesn’t work but I’ll have a look at the website, thanks.
Do you happen to remember for which knife it was originally for? I might order one the next time I’ll go visit my family in the US.
Too bad the clip costs almost as much as the knife LOL!
Would be nice if AE or DHG would carry aftermarket pocket clips for the main knife brands, those would have been cheap.

Hard to tell from your pic if that Kuk has a secondary bevel or is a true convex edge.

Correct me if I am wrong but I’m pretty sure you can sharpen a true convex grind on a work sharp. It takes a lot of practice, because you essentially ditch the angle guides and are free-handing it. I wouldn’t do it on a high value knife for starters, practice on a kitchen cleaver, something with stock to spare or something sacrificial.

I have no first hand experience with either convex grinds or work sharp systems. All my knives have some sort of fixed angle edge.

Good Luck though!!

Latest bunch o’ budget blades in the house

  • Mora Basic 511 Carbon / ~9€ / can’t be wrong for a small utility fixed blade
  • Ka-Bar Dozier / AUS-8 steel / ~25€ / wanted this one for a while, not disappointed
  • Kershaw Al Mar AM-3 / ~33€ / not cheap for a chinese-made small knife with 8cr13 but you pay for the design
  • Graoully Le Mineur Lorrain / small french-made (not 100% sure!) knife, unknown stainless blade steel, ebony wood handle / ~25€ on ebay
  • Spyderco Pingo / N690Co blade steel / was ~40€ on sale / my first Spyderco knife, very cute little slipjoint (strong)

those k-bar doziers are cool. How do you like its lock-back design? Does yours have any blade play or excessive wear?
I’m thinking about picking one up for EDC.

It’s brand new, not used yet. No blade play. The lockback is good but certainly not in tri-ad lock league.
I would say it’s a light/medium duty EDC knife

Bent the lock bar back too far on my first attempt, had to take it apart to bend it back so it would actually lock :person_facepalming:

It’s working great now though, although I do have to remember not to place my fingers on the bar as I’m trying to open it. It’s my first frame lock, so it’s taking a bit getting used to.

That’s the trick with frame-locks.

I got this sweet Bastion EDC carbon fiber handle ceramic blade knife in my TacPack monthly subscription box. It is the lightest knife I’ve ever had, and the blade is razor sharp.

I took apart my LionSteel KUR copy for some cleaning and oiling. I can confirm that the titanium wire clip is reversible for left hand carry. The nice fit & finish of the hidden parts was also a pleasent surprise:

"LionSteel KUR copy", £28 is a lot of money, Is their a copy of a copy available for around £14, I have to keep under that Import tax limit of £15

John.

How would customs know the price of the knife? I have never ever received an invoice with any of my purchases from Aliexpress or DHgate?

Is the parcel value not on the custom declaration on the outside of the packet.

John.

+1 smaller the smaller ganzo blades are so much better for edc.

John.

thanks for the FB7603, my first Ganzo

I don't like GB, charge for shipping, but it`s not tracked, recommends you pay for tracking, and also for insurance, more money every time but shipping is still slow.

FT give virtually free tracked shipping, delivery my last two times was 15 days then 9 day`s not bad to the UK.

John.

I bought a couple of knivs from GB recently, never paid for registered shipping.

It’s swings and roundabouts with shipping - ultimately, if you don’t like the price, you don’t buy it. There’s always AliExpress and DHGate for other options. As to keeping the “import” value down, I’ve never been troubled by that and have never been hit with any demand from the Border Agency. I just wouldn’t worry about it mate.

I got a kind of “California Sun & Surf’in Flipper”, because the story says that the name and design of the Kizer Ki4483 Eliminator 2
is somehow inspired by the sound of the Eliminators The Eliminators - El Borracho Whatever that means, it is a pretty good knife anyway.
