Emisar D1 tests by ZozzV6

Hi! I’m an Emisar D1 owner for 3 days now.
I replaced the firmware with Andúril and played with stepdown temp and ramp ceiling settings.
I used the android ceiling bounce app to see output drops and time. Now I’m at work so I can not measure lumens and temperature. My earlier tests at home with temp stepdown setted to 60°C and ramp ceiling setted 40 clicks under full output resulted 626 lumens at ramp ceiling and about 41°C temp on the head after a few minutes run. but the flashlight output had big changes.

Then I raised the temp by 4 clicks to 64°C so I think the head were about 44-45°C at work on the newer runs. Also lowered the ramp ceiling to 50 clicks under turbo but that time the graph was almost flat after 10 minutes and no stepdown. I wanted to find the limit where the light just keep regulated output. I know there is a lot of variables because ambient temp, handhold or not. All in my measurements the flashlight was tailstanding. Then tried ramp ceiling at 47 clicks and got a graph like the first but the stepdown happened later. I thought there was some thermal lag between led heating up and the MCU senses the heating or cooling So I made a run from turbo and from ramp ceiling setted 47 clicks under turbo. After that I applied silicone heat pad in the driver cavity to transfer heat from led shelf to the MCU better.

And repeated the measurements with same settings.
The difference was noticable. It was also stepping down but not so low output and have better response to cooling and stepping up in shorter time. I think It worth the little effort.
EDIT: The head temp was 41°C during tests. The ramp ceiling is 450 lumens.

thanks!
why the change to Anduril?

Thanks for the silicone trick.

Mostly because the custom ramp floor and ceiling setting. I don’t really use very low moon modes and I want to set a ramp ceiling that can run for minutes without stepping down. And I like it because I don’t need to remember which direction I used last ramping. And It can support indicator led as Narsil.

Nice! I am using Andúril on a D1, D4, EE X6R, and several Q8s.

The adjustable ramp ceiling is a very handy feature, especially on the D4. I can let friends use my lights with less fear of them burning themselves. They still get a full explanation of the hazards of high-powered lights.

I have one of my Q8s designated as a ‘loaner’ with the ceiling set to roughly 60%. It is still plenty bright to impress the muggles.

TK might be adding a ‘muggle mode’ to Andúril that will have its own ramp floor and ceiling. It will hide turbo, blinky modes, and configuration mode.

Edited the OP. Remeasured the last settings at home. The ramp ceiling with 47clicks from turbo was 450 lumens and the head temp stabilized at 41°C during longer runs. Now raised the temp limit and the ramp ceiling and do some tasts again with full battery.

New settings tried. I think I leave it that way.
Temp setted to 35 click and ramp ceiling on 42 click under turbo.
Ramp ceiling now 600 lumens with freshly charged battery.
Stepdown temp measured on head is now 45°C
Run from 600 lumens ramp ceiling:

Run from 1350 lumens Turbo. The head temp overshoot the 45°C limit a little but not much and after that it stabilizing:

That way it is safe to use and I can leave it on at any level. It regulate temp nicely.
I will make a full runtime test later.

This is interesting. Have you updated it since doing the initial mod?

I’m wondering because the thermal code has changed a lot since 2017. There were significant changes on 2018-01-04, 2018-01-24, 2018-06-17, 2018-06-30, and 2018-10-09. In particular, I think your graphs might show the reason for the 2018-06-30 change.

No it has the old version but I will try the newest one soon. Thanks!
