Can someone recommend a “battery operated LED ceiling light” with push on/off switch for a RV?

maybe with modes ……… just looking for temporary lighting when I am not connected…….TIA

C~

Those silly “push-lights” advertised on teevee, like that?

Goggle “push light”, “tap light”, “touch light” on Amazon and the like.

Would be funny of some idjit designed ’em with strobe/SOS modes…

Well, no, not really.

Thanks Lb……… yeah I have seen those but I think they are plastic junk(incandescent bulb w/alkaline batts) and that is all that I have found. I was hoping to find something that would take Li-ion batts with good LEDs. As far as modes go………… just different levels would be nice, but that would be a plus.

A lantern like thise fenix CL25R clones?

runs on 18650

Wellp, if you use 12V glass-based 194s (or 168s, etc.) in your existing fixtures, you can swap to LED 194s. Different mfrs have nice WW LEDs, instead of 5×5050 you can get 9×5050 (“double-decker”) bulbs for more light, as long as the fixture can accommodate it.

I’m using those (WW 9×5050) bulbs in my car’s interior lights (f/r map-lights). Same nice warm light but minimal current-draw, and quite bright, at least as bright if not brighter than the stock hotwire bulbs.

Also, if the bulbs mount sideways in the fixture and you got the room, there are special “lollipop” bulbs that will fit, flat, and have even more light. I use something similar for the dome light, too.

Stick with WW unless you want the interior of your RV to look like an office-building. :zipper_mouth_face:

You could go with a Q8 facing the ceiling and secure it somehow. My kitchen light went out and I used it till I picked up a replacement, and kinda found I missed the Q8 light.

I had considered a lantern but because I preferred to light from ‘above’ and headroom is an issue, I was hoping to find something with a low profile to attach to the ceiling. Something ‘semi’ permanent like the ‘push’ lights mentioned but with LEDs and Li-on options………… maybe it doesnt exist……yet.
Im still hoping DBSAR’s lantern project comes to fruition.

I own two tent lights that would fill the bill. One works on 4 AA cells and the other on either 3AAA or one 18650 Li-ion batteries. The first one is called a UFO light because it looks like one. It has 36 LEDs and 3 ranges of 12, 24, and 36 LEDs. It has a hole in the back that looks like it was intended to allow you to fix the base with one screw. That one still allows you to change batteries by spinning the front of the light to open it. The depth of the light is about 1.5 inches. Gee, the new and improved model has 41 LEDs.

The other is a 60 LED, has 3 ranges - 5, 17, and 60 LED, and includes a hanging loop. The depth of the lamp is about 1.75 inches. I switched to this one because of the loop and rechargeable battery, better light distribution and cheap cost. This light is so light you could temporarily stick it on the ceiling with double sided tape. You would have to remove it to change the battery or charge the battery in the light with a 4.7V charger.

Search on eBay for LED UFO Tent light They are priced from $3.35 from a Hong Kong seller or $4.99 from a US seller both with free shipping To find the listings I spotted just cut and paste the bold number into the eBay search box 112400058796 or 172592602392

Search for 60 LED Tent Light They are priced from $4.80 from China or $7.01 from a US seller. The two I saw are: 362079538788 or 332389044479

Thanks alot Vegas !!
I decided to go with 2 of the $7 / 60 LED ones from the US. I like that I can use an 18650 in it and the low 5 led setting. I can use velcro tape to attach to the ceiling for swapping batteries. It had a “make an offer” on ebay and I offered $12/for 2………. we’ll see.

Again Thanks

this is a really good question that never seems to get answered .
i bought the tent ufo lights about four years ago and they were trash back then .
I’ve also taken and modded a few of the push the dome 4AA or 3 AA lights and have a few of the big dumb plastic flod down lightbulb one that they used to sell to put in your closet …
clearly everything CAN or could be modded ,but if it starts out as a cheap plastic piece of crap than even modded with nichia hi cri , a driver and heatsink…it’s still going to look and feel cheap .

I’d look for an older quality fixture with a decent switch ,look and feel and then mod it.

Cancel the offer and grab one of these! Similar idea but with a battery and solar charging. I have had no experience with seller or product, but all the reviews seem great. It is about half price of what it normal is on amazon ect.
