Oh! The Eastward J609 now without Strobe (hi-mid-low)

I've put some comparison beamshots in the U20 thread.

What in the world? They just updated the description on this item. Get this:

Now it's for sure, this is the 4-mode AA-Z4 that we requested a while back from Eastward, but without the XP-G emitter. Eastward was smart enough to recognize the business opportunity, but I suspect they only wanted to sell it in huge quantities through DX. So, the lesson from this? The squeaky wheel gets the grease. BLF produces results!

4 modes? even better...

Do XP-E R3 exist in huge quantities?

I hope that "Coated Plastic Lens" is an error on DX....

Errors? On DX? Can't be. :)

Yeah , XP-E R3 exists ..... I have one myself ....

4 Mode rather than 3 ... OK got my fingers crossed that DX has there act together on this one ...

Looks like DX is waiting for orders to build up once again ...

Thanks Agenthex, even if they did redact the name of the forum! I was not impressed with Eastward when I tried to deal with them, and neither was Manafont, which is one of the reasons they gave up on the AA-Z4 project.

nottin like getting the shaft !

I came up with the idea of adding a peltier to modern heatpipe coolers , and sent my idea to two companies ...

Both came out with coolers with peltiers about 2 to 3 months after I sent them my ideas ...

What did I get ? = The Shaft !

Sharing your ideas = Youl get ripped every time .....

^ I'm doubling down on the lulz.

Exactly my point ..It's not even possible to entice them with money .They know already they'll steal from you ..It's just a matter of how much and how soon can they take something decent and trun it into trash .That's why all the descriptions are wrong .Someone is busy screwing it up.They have no ability to see long term. It's all grab it and run.

It's like there are 4 guys sitting around a table playing name that tune ....saying I can make that light for20% of that price and use no metal at all...or I can make it for half the price ...and make it 4 times worse ...ok cool ,,lets do that.

Even though I was happy helping develop a new flashlight without pay, I just found out that DX is blocking links to this forum.

Of all the people buying flashlights on DX, who trust the sites and who trust the forums?

One tip: Recommended buys, with links and money kickbacks for the finder and Mr. Admin. Let the people that do all the work (run the site, review the torches and organize all the info) make some money for all the trouble.

Well I couldn't stop myself, I ordered one too. We'll see if it I get lucky and get a strobless model. I sure hope that 5% low has good runtime.

My order on the Eastward YJ J09 now says: Packaging

Has DX shipped any of these yet? Mine is still waiting on supplier.

Packaging ..... Been packaging for 3 days now

Ok, mine supposedly has been shipped as of 30 seconds ago. I have a tracking number. Now it's up to HKP.

Just got an email saying its been shipped , but then I am still waiting on a Ultrafire L2 supposedly shipped 2 weeks ago

Woo Hoo mine is says packaging! Smile I sure hope we get the strobeless model!

Hi all. I took the plunge and bought the 4 mode at DX. And I got a 4 mode with a warmer (almost neutral) tint!! Mine also came with something that seem to be residual glue in front of the emitter so it's beam is a bit irregular. I tried to unscrew the pill but lacked the courage to apply enough force.

But the modes are not that well sorted off. If you take the Akoray k106 (my yardstick) and call it's lowest 1 and it's highest 10, you will have something like 2-3-6-7 or 3-4-5-6 (difficult to tell without a light meter). But the modes seem too close together (sometimes it's hard to tell it changed mode) and the low is too high, without enough runtime for a full night on a single AA.

The memory works flawlessly and consistently but in a strange way. It will memorize mode if it stays on for more than a few seconds (about five seconds). So if it has been on for 10 seconds and you half press the switch it will not change mode. If you turn it on for two seconds and then leave it off for an hour it will turn on in the next mode.

It's still a beautiful (it's an elegant design) and comfortable (it's only marginally wider than an AA with a nice clip) light to carry and is pretty useful inside and outside (warmer tint makes it better outside). But it has short runtime, the low is too high and the high is too low (compared with lithiums), so it's a nice flashlight, but it's not the new yardstick.

Hope it helps,

Roberto.

Thanks for the review! I wish I could get rid of mine, I have one of the first ones with High-High-Strobe modes, and it irritates me every time I look at it. I do love the design though.

How I wish I could love this light.

As I was getting used to it, I had to use it for a few (20-30) minutes at a time on high, usually tail standing on a table. I lasted only a couple of charges on a NI-MH (literally, only 2 charges, about 2 hours of runtime). After that it started losing power and then died. Does not work at all, tried with all my rechargeables and with some new alkalines. Must say that it has never been dropped nor abused in any way.

So, as of now, I do not recommend....

Is someone knows a driver that will fit this light, could you please post a link? Preferably a driver with a decent low...
