Probably nothing needs to be done, other than find something to fill the rest of the tube with since a single 18650 (or 26650) will have similar voltage to 3xC cell.
So on that note, what’s the easiest way to fill remaining space in the tube? Are there some adapters out there?
I'm using 2P 18650's with no issues or other mods. Pretty nice light. I pulled down my protype pics because I was worried others might copy them and there was some risk with the design. Dchomak made a very nice version here.
This light comes out every year about this time. In the past they have always been 850 lumen with the 3 emitters. Here is a shot of one I picked up a couple of years ago.
Notice that the emitter in the upper left is larger than the other 2. It looks like an XP-G2
When I do a search for the SKU# 1001396908 on the HD site I get 2 different hits. 1 for an 850 lumen light and 1 for a 1000 lumen light.
In the gift section in the stores they display the 1000 lumen one.
At the time I checked the 3 emitters and all 3 look like XP-G2’s Probably why the light is now rated at 1000 lumen
Just ordered 2 of these today at 12.88/ea and one of the $10 set which includes 150 lumen defiant light and a headlamp could not pass it up. Thanks :+1:
Awesome I will go check them out at my home depot looks like a nice light. Regarding the sizes of the led’s do you think those two smaller ones are the old production xp-g2’s and the larger one, the new production led?
Just picked up ours from home depot today. I am just a noob but the light shines great. Its a good combination of flood/thrower. Even the little $10 lights were a good surprise. We can use the $10 ones and put them in the “Box Of Lights” for general everday use. And that would allow me to keep my better lights stored for emergencies. Great gift items. I will definitely be getting more while they last.
I don’t have calipers, so I can’t provide an accurate measurement. It looks to be about 1 and 1/32”, so about 26.2mm. The C cells are pretty loose in there and rattle away when the tailcap is screwed on. Maybe some 26650 cells would fit?
There’s your answer.
There wouldn’t be room for a 2P mod, and I would worry about the strip on a protected 26650 shorting out if only 1 cell is used. You would have to make a spacer anyway.
And a 2P setup with 2 - 18650’s would have more capacity.
Hello, I bought this recent version of the light to gift to a co-worker but discovered a Husky 500 lm version with an XP-G3 that will better suit the use. So, what do I do? … test it! I was happy to see a Shockli 26650, 4200 mAh fits and pulls +7 amps at the tail end. Beam pattern has a lot of artifacts but the trifoil-shaped spill and long throwing, neutral white beam aren’t too bad.
I have the 850lm Defiant one. Looks like three Cree XM-L2 emitters. It’s ok for a “throw in the back trunk and use it for emergencies” kinda light. That’s about it. It’s build quality is very cheap. It’s bright for what it is but I doubt it really is the claimed 850lm. The light included three Defiant branded C cell batteries. The head is glued on so I’m not going to even bother taking it apart. I would not bother trying to mod such a light as you’d be better off spending your money on a more worthy project.
That’s the reason I buy them too. I replace the batteries with primary lithium AAs so the the light works when I need it.
I actually bought the 850 lm light you have but returned it because I didn’t see any improvement over my 3C DST.
One thing to note, this light and a 500 lm Husky I bought this year have modes, flashy good for emergency signaling. And this is an improvement over single mode lights previously sold. The best part is that they are CHEAP!
